Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer
and rise from the dead on the third day
and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins,
would be preached in his name
to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things.
And behold I am sending the promise of my Father upon you;
but stay in the city
until you are clothed with power from on high.”

Then he led them out as far as Bethany,
raised his hands, and blessed them.
As he blessed them he parted from them
and was taken up to heaven.
They did him homage
and then returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
and they were continually in the temple praising God. LK 24:46-53

40 days after Jesus resurrected from the dead the Apostles claim He ascended into heaven. He has appeared to the Apostles several times and has appeared to as many as 500 eyewitnesses.  We celebrate the feast of the Ascension on Sunday, but today is its original feast day to match the 9 days before Pentecost.  Jesus returns to the Father because it is only natural for Him to return where He came from and to be one with the Father.

His seat is above all others. Every angel, saint, and sinner below bow to Him with His mother, Mary.  He is the Second Person of the Holy Trinity. There is no explanation for what it must to have been like for Jesus to be lifted before the Apostles’ eyes into heaven. Amazing!  Today begins the pioneering of the novena.  Jesus asked the Apostles and Mary to stay in Jerusalem.  They stay in the upper room praying for 9 days until He returns for Pentecost.  They spend these 9 days in prayer which begins the first novena. At Pentecost, the power of God comes to the earth in full force. No longer will Jesus be outside of us but in every baptized person through the Holy Spirit. We are now His hands and feet, other Christs, guided by the Holy Spirit and called to renew the face of the earth.

Today’s challenge: Begin a novena.  Here are a few.
