Humbly submit your will to God today and ask Him for the courage and strength to follow it, consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph. Give your life away for God and others!
Jesus said to his disciples:
“I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that
of the scribes and Pharisees,
you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.
“You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.
But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother
will be liable to judgment,
and whoever says to his brother,
Raqa, will be answerable to the Sanhedrin,
and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ will be liable to fiery Gehenna.
Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar,
and there recall that your brother
has anything against you,
leave your gift there at the altar,
go first and be reconciled with your brother,
and then come and offer your gift.
Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him.
Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge,
and the judge will hand you over to the guard,
and you will be thrown into prison.
Amen, I say to you,
you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.” Mt 5:20-26
Jesus continues to teach us how to be saints at the Sermon on the Mount. So far he has taught us the true way to happiness in the beatitudes, we are called to a special mission/purpose “you are the light of the world”, and we must follow the commandments and show compassion for others. Today, Jesus is leading into forgiveness, the foundation of Christianity. Forgiveness is one of the reasons Jesus came to us, to reconcile us with the Father. ”Go first and be reconciled with your brother” Jesus says, before we even give a gift to God on the altar. This is profound! Jesus is telling us that we need to reconcile our differences in our relationships with others even before we offer a gift on the altar.
Jesus is showing us the power of forgiveness. We know regret, frustration, pride, stubbornness, retaliation, revenge, selfishness, and resentment very well when someone hurts us in our relationships with father, mother, brother, sister, spouse, co-worker, classmate, or stranger. It always hurts more with the people that are closest to us. We have invested more of ourselves in them and sacrificed for them. Think about how much Jesus invested in you and sacrificed for you.
Why did Jesus teach about reconciliation so highly? We are held prisoner to the person we have hurt or who has hurt us until we do. This causes us extreme emotional stress and uneasiness which influences all aspects of our life. If we cannot reconcile ourselves with each other, how can we expect God to forgive us. That is the beauty of God’s mercy. He loves His creation even if they don’t love Him back, agape love.
Reconciliation is different though. It’s about relationship. We must ask God for it. We must will it. We must repent, change the way we look at life, and ask for His mercy. Reconciliation is powerful and leads to peace and joy. It is the hardest thing to do in relationships. Jesus will teach us later in the Sermon on the Mount that, “if you do not forgive, the heavenly Father will not forgive you.” Mt 6:15
That scares me enough to forgive and work on my relationships more, but God is not trying to scare He is showing us what true love is since He is love straight through.
More importantly, to love more perfectly, we are called to forgive. If we truly care about those near to us that God gave us as gifts in our lives, and we truly love God then we will forgive. Forgiveness is one of the keys to sanctification and reaching heaven through working hard with God’s grace in relationships with the people God put around us. Become a saint!
Today’s challenge: Quite simply, reconcile or be reconciled. Go to confession! Forgive someone or ask for forgiveness.
Don’t forget, forgiveness is for-giving, do it often and experience peace and joy. When we do we are becoming holier and closer to God! It is a very freeing feeling, we become unchained. “If we fail to forgive, we are rejecting our own faith!” -Servant of God, Emil Kapaun
Be a servant, become a saint!

When the scripture said, “But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment,” I was thinking that even if you wish ill on some on that is bad because God loves everyone even the sinners, because we are all sinners. no matter what they did you should be able to forgive them because that is what God would want you to do.

The scripture is saying that do good and good will come back to you but do bad and bad will happen to you.
Today’s scripture brings many powerful meanings. I think the true meaning today is that we shall not kill. This means not to kill someone with words too. We are always so judgmental that we never stop to think that we are hurting more than one person. When we hurt a person we are also hurting Jesus because he is the creator. So, if we hurt someone we need to ask for forgiveness not only from the person we hurt but also from our Savior. Jesus is always open to forgive but we need to put in the work and be truly sorry.
What this scripture reflection says to me is that we all need to try even harder not to sin. Because once we sinned. We will all be in hell for the rest of our lives. So by us not sinnning will be able to go to heaven and live out the rest of our lives in eternal peace with God.
I think today’s scripture passage is trying to tell us that forgiveness is important. In order for God to forgive us for our sins we have committed, we have to go to confession. If we fail to forgive other people, we are growing farther from God. Even when it’s not easy, we always need to forgive everyone.
I think that this Gospel reading is telling us the same thing that the Our Father is telling us. In a Gospel reading from a few days ago it told us how to pray with the Our Father and this reading is telling us how we should forgive those who trespass against us before God does it for us. We need to notice when we mess up and we need to own up to it. We know that we will have to make up for our mistakes now so we should try to pay for them right now.
What I think this is telling us is that if we make mistakes or if we do something bad we are going to be held accountable for our actions. We have to own up to our mistakes especially if it pertains to someone else. We are trying to be followers of Jesus. If Jesus made mistakes and if he was not perfect he would own up to his mistakes. Like all of the people in the bible during Jesus’ Crucifixion not many of them owned up to the mistakes they made. So this is trying to teach us that we shall acknowledge that we have done wrong and own up to our mistakes.

Jesus is telling me that it’s super important to remember that my actions have a ripple effect that ties into many people’s lives. There is too much negativity in the world, and it often ruins someone’s day. It is necessary to reach out and put some positivity out there. Everyone has bad days, including me, and just a simple compliment can turn someone’s day around. I’ve personally experienced that. It really makes a difference, in many ways.
In todays gospel God is telling me that if we do wrong to our brothers and sisters, then start doing something else without apologizing, then we must stop what we are doing and go apologize to them because people matter more than things. We need to be there for each other for out whole lives. That is what God wants from us. To love one another as He has loved you.
We have to forgive each other. If we don’t it impacts us and the person we need to forgive or be forgiven from. Forgiving can get rid of anger and helps relationships with the people in our lives. Being forgiven can get rid of stress about the relationship. It might seem hard to do or be sincere, but in the long run it is much better than if we don’t.
The Gospel is saying that if you are not righteousness you will not enter in the kingdom of God. It also says that if we kill our brother we will be liable for our judgement. Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar and there recall that your brother has anything against you.
This scripture is telling me that we need to reconcile ourselves. We are sinners and to get to heaven we need to reconcile ourselves.
In today’s Gospel Jesus is showing us the power of forgiveness. We all know what forgiveness is but do we know how and when to use it? We all know that God forgives us in confession and all or that stuff. But do we forgive others like God does. God always gives us another chance to get close to him but we always blow it. But while most of us don’t give each other another chance and once someone messes up we can’t trust them again.
“You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment. But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment,” Jesus is telling us that being angry with someone is just as bad in his eyes as killing someone. Words, anger, and judgement tear down a person. It kills their spirit.
Be righteous and follow Gods word. He said before you offer your gift be reconciled with your brother. God wants us to give ourselves up before coming to him, he loves us and always is with us.
I think that Jesus is saying that we need to bring our sins, and brokenness to Him instead of dwelling on them and making mistakes from them. Jesus is saying we must forgive others. We can’t have a mortal sin on our soul and go receive communion. We must forgive others before we come to the altar, or go to confession.
God wants us to confess our sins and repent. If we sin against others, we should reconcile with them before we give something to the Lord. Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.“ This is like if we commit a mortal sin, we cannot receive the Eucharist. After you go to confession, the priest will most likely have you apologize to anybody you have sinned against and to reverse the damage that you’ve done by sinning.
I think that this scripture passage is saying that we need to follow God’s example. He should be examples to everyone in the world.
We need to learn how to forgive each other. If we’re mad at each other we will get no where and live life with each other in hatred.
“Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him. Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge,” In today’s gospel, Jesus teaches us about forgiveness. If we do wrong to another person, we need to apologize and take responsibility for our actions. Whenever we make a mistake, we can always come to God and he will forgive us. We need to take up our cross and learn to be more like Christ.
This scripture reminded me that we need to be humble and give ourselves up to God. We need to give our lives up to him so that we may enter heaven and be with him
I think this scripture is telling us that if we do good to someone else we will receive goodness. But if we are mean to someone we will be treated meanly. This is also telling us to forgive others if we want to be forgiven.
In this scripture, it tells us to understand that all sins are taken in judgement. We can’t just go, “Well, I didn’t kill anyone, so I’m 100% going to heaven.” I doesn’t work that way. Before you even think of going to heaven, you should think about your sins first.
I think the scripture is saying that no matter what we do we need to own up to it. If we do not the Kingdom with not be open to us and we will be rejected from its gates. However, if we are kind and own up to our actions, we will be able to enter heaven with forgiveness as we have treated ourselves and others.
I think the Scripture is saying reconcile with those we have hurt. That can include family, friends, and even God. We have to reconcile. Without reconciliation with God we can not get to heaven. There is confession for a reason. We have to be truly sorry for our sins and Jesus will forgive us. Even if we commit a mortal sin and we go to confession Jesus will forgive us. Jesus will forgive us even when we do horrible things to others. If we know that Jesus forgives people who are truly sorry then we can forgive others who are trying to reconcile with us.
It’s saying that if you do good; good will come back to you but if you do something wrong ; something wrong will happen. This is your life so live it with goodness.
It’s saying that if you are trying to get to Heaven you need to make the right decisions and make the correct plan for you and the people around you. God made it to where you can access anything in something that had good and evil.
Today’s scripture reflects on how we are responsible for our own sins and how that can lead to the downfall of our relationships. It can be any kind of relationship; with God, our sibling, friend, co-worker, etc. As true as it may be that we sin, there is also reconciliation. Reconciliation can be a different thing to, whether it is confession to God, or a heart to heart talk with anyone whom you’ve hurt. With reconciliation also comes forgiveness, this applies to if we hurt someone or if they hurt us. Whatever grave or little thing that has been done, we must learn to reconcile and forgive. Yes, to receive Holy Communion but also to follow in Jesus’ example to be a holy person.
This scripture passage was a little confusing for me, but I think that its saying that we should tell Jesus our sins instead of keeping them inside. Like Jesus said,” “I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.
What the scripture is saying to me is that we must pay for our actions and not leave them ignored. We pay for our actions by prayer.
Reconcile with your brother. First off, brother does not just mean sibling or family. It means everyone. Your neighbor. Everyone is your brother in the face of God. When there is a wrong done, you must set down your gifts. Set down your gifts, your pride and anything else evil. Offer them up. You have to be holy and do what is right.
When we think of the commandments – such as “You shall not kill” Most people automatically think “Oh yeah, don’t murder people, duh” But the truth is, everyday we kill with our words and actions. Kill people’s happiness and mood. We need to pay more attention to the commandments.
Jesus is telling us that we need to repent for our sins. No stain of sin shall enter heaven. We need to go to confession and receive the sacrament. We will go to purgatory for our final purification before we enter heaven.
Everyone gets mad. We just have to make sure we solve our problems in the right way. We cannot over-react. We can turn to God and ask for help to forgive or apolgize to another.
We need to realize that there is more to the commandments rather than “oh, i should steal things or murder people” but there is more to that, because we are all sinners, we kill with our words, become jealous, don’t go to Mass. No stain of sin shall not enter heaven, so we must repent.
In today’s Scripture Jesus is telling us how important it is to forgive one another and not hold any judgement. Very often our prideful human nature get in the way of us being able to make amends with people. But Jesus tells us that the sooner we forgive one another so that we can both enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
God is saying that even being angry at your brother and thinking ill on him is evil. God loves everyone and wants us to as well.
Today we are being told that we cannot go to God and worship him while we have bad blood with someone else, God loves all of his children, and it pains him to have tension between two of them, just like we hate tension in our own families. To be able to fully worship God and love him, we must be open to our brothers and sisters and love them.
Everyday I sin. I try not to sin but because we are fallen I still do. We must ask for forgiveness from the ones we hurt by our sins. Ask for forgiveness from you sibling, or from your parents, or from God.
This means that you are supposed to be nice to your siblings like your brother, your brothers, your sisters, sister, or your brothers and sisters.
In today’s scripture passage I think it is trying to tell us to be nice to everyone. Even if you do not like that person they still deserve respect and kindness.
Today, Jesus is telling us about what sin is. He’s saying that, yeah killing is bad, but if you even THINK angry thoughts about your brother, you need to seek repentance with God
We need to learn to be kind to everyone. I feel that we are always putting others down. We need to learn that everyone is still a child of God.
We can’t keep acting like we don’t deserve the punishment we get in life. God gave up His Son to take away most of our punishment, but the little punishment we are left with we complain so much about. Jesus took our sins without complaining once. We need to realize that we deserve whatever we get in response for our sins and more. We did it to ourselves and we need to continue to tell God how sorry we are for our sins, and thank Him for His grace.
what im understanding from scripture reflection is that we will have to pay for our actions no matter what. We cant run from them we have to confront and understand what we did wrong.
We should treat others with kindness and respect just how we would treat God and our parents but if we are not kind and we are disrespectful to others then we will be turned away by God.
We need to be honest with Jesus about our sins, even though he already knows what our sins our, he expects us to place our trust in him, and to be honest and confess those sins.
We need to be honest with Jesus about our sins. Even though he already knows what our sins our, he expects us to place our trust in him, and to be honest and confess those sins.
This Gospel is saying to do good and good will happen to you, but if you do bad, bad will come back and punish you. God loves everybody, for God made man and women so he is the one to judge .
I think this scripture is telling you to be kind to each other. We are all made in God’s image so if we hurt one another it’s like we are hurting God.
It tells us that we need to stop doing bad things that will make us not enter heaven.
In today’s scripture Jesus talks about how if you need to go apologize to some one or for give some one you can’t put it off. You need to make that the first thing you do and do and when you do it do it sincerely.
In this scripture passage this stuck out to me: “leave your gift there at the altar,go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.”I think this means that too be able to be forgiven the people that you sinned upon have to like accept your forgiveness before you can go and be before God.
We need to remember to not be a hypocrite when it comes to our faith. You need to deal with your own sin before you deal with some other persons sin. After you do that then you are able to tell others to deal with their sin.
¨Humbly submit your will to God today and ask Him for the courage and strength to follow it¨ it is alright to talk to god and listen to what he has to say but the main part that is hard for us is following what he is saying. we need to listen to him and do the things he wants.
This scripture is telling me that WE the people need to be humble and give ourselves up to God. Jesus said if you do something good then something good will happen in return. WE the people just need to give our life to God and let Him handle it.
In this scripture, all of us are sinners. You have to accept that and let God into your life to lead you. Ask God for the courage you need and the help you need during your struggles. You cannot judge others when you barely even know anything about them. You should treat others the same way you want to be treated.
What this scripture reflection says to me is that we all need to be prepared to accept our punishments for what we all have did. But we can try to git rid of out punishments by going to confession. Because Hell is the ultimate punishment. What we do good, we get rewarded for, and heaven is the ultimate reward.
This scripture is telling me that God want us to repent and tell him all our sins and brokeness so we can live with him in eternal life.
In todays Scripture, God is telling us not to sin anymore and focus on getting to heaven. We need to stop listening to the devil and listen to God because he is trying to tell us something and is helping us get to heaven.
No human besides Jesus is perfect. And as humans it has become a “good” thing to tell people that they are perfect humans, or have nothing wrong with them. But this could not be farther from the truth. Every single human has something wrong with them and that is sin. And we will never get over this, but with God we will at least be able to overcome it the best we can.
Jesus wants us to forgive. If we forgive then others will be more likely to forgive us when we do them wrong. If you make peace with the person you are fighting with, then there is no reason for neither of you to not forgive the other.
What I think God was telling me was we need to pick others up. We do not need to just “kill them” or bring their hopes down by saying they look weird of something. We need to compliment them not just bring them down because that can really ruin a person’s life and I know most people don’t mean what they say like that but it’s just the way it happens.
“Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.” Ok, so, obviously the scribes and Pharisees must be pretty righteous, right? So, Jesus is saying, if you are not more righteous than the scribes and Pharisees then you will not make it to Heaven. Moral: you must be righteous to get into Heaven.
Today’s Scripture passage is saying that we should forgive others and in doing this we are being forgiven of our sins little by little. We get closer to Heaven and eternal life with God when we forgive those around us. We are free from holding grudges and being mad at someone when we forgive. We are given the chance to become better people and become closer to God when we put our trust in Him. So, we should do the same for each other and give them the chance to earn your trust and they will do the same in return.
In this Gospel, God is telling me that if we sin against our own friends and family without apologizing and actually meaning it, this sin will forever be stuck to us throughout our entire life and we would change forever. And not in the good way and in the way God wanted us to be.
I think the scripture is telling us to forgive and go to confession. It may take some time to get some stuff off your chest, but you gotta get it out at some point. Do it.
This scripture makes me think about the ten Commandments and what we should and should not do. The ten Commandments are like the rules in our Holy life and a guide to Heaven. I think the all time biggest Commandment is you should not kill because you should never do that, We were put onto this earth to live a happy life with others not hurt others.
I think this Gospel passage is telling me to follow the Lord’s example. God is the only one we should be striving to be like.
Who ever goes first will receive the highest reward. If we go first it will be the best thing we have ever done.
What the gospel is telling me that is when we make mistakes the Lord judges us. And mistakes lead to bad actions and when we have bad actions then we sin after we sin we have this great thing that God has gave us and it is confession.
In this passage it reminds us that we need to follow the commandments or else we won’t get Eternal Life.
We all make mistakes and the Lord judges us. We must confess to go to Heaven, and he will help us every way.
I think that this Gospel is saying that we need to forgive and be forgiven for things that we have done and others have done to us. We need to be more like God and forgive them like He would forgive us.
We have to own up to mistakes. If Jesus made mistakes, He’d own up to them. Even Jesus’s most faithful apostle, Peter made mistakes. If he made mistakes then we sure have and will.
To me this means the Apostles are the brothers to each and they need to stay close to each other when things are bad. Us humans to need have peace and not always be angry towards each other and just have world peace.
I think this scripture is saying that we must always follow the ten commandments. And, we should try not to sin.
I believe that this passage means that we should always clear our souls of sin before we approach Jesus, because He is holy, and when we are unclean, we cannot step on Holy Ground.
Todays Scripture is talking about the 6th Commandment you shall not kill. He says “whoever is angry with his brother
will be liable to judgment,” This says that you can also kill someone mentally. So if you’re being mean to your brother that is also killing.
This Gospel is saying to do good and good will happen to you, but if you do bad, bad will come back and punish you. God loves everybody, for God made man and women so he is the one to judge. Also you can hurt people with your words and actions.
