Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary.
Jesus said to his disciples:
“I have come to set the earth on fire,
and how I wish it were already blazing!
There is a baptism with which I must be baptized,
and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished!
Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?
No, I tell you, but rather division.
From now on a household of five will be divided,
three against two and two against three;
a father will be divided against his son
and a son against his father,
a mother against her daughter
and a daughter against her mother,
a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.” Lk 12:49-53
Jesus uses powerful words today. “I have come to set the earth on fire” and “I did not come to bring peace but division.”
This is hard to understand. Don’t forget the power of fire in our physical and spiritual world. In our physical world, many forests and homes have been destroyed due to fire. In our spiritual world at Pentecost the fire of the Holy Spirit came down on our first followers, the disciples, and today through us to build something new.
This is the fire Jesus can’t wait to unleash on the world, a dysfunctional family in His eyes. The division He is speaking of is a world that once had no future. There is no hope in a fallen world, only dysfunction, and no direction or purpose. I think of it as a burning field of weeds and brush that must be burned to create new growth so everything can come to live in it. Jesus came to bring the human family hope. He came to bring all of the dysfunction in us a rightly ordered life and rightly ordered worship. He came to give us purpose and mission.
Now, in this time and place, we have a decision to make. We can die to ourselves, our fallen human nature/flesh, worldly goods, and put on Christ to defeat the devil. It is extremely difficult to enter heaven because dying to ourselves and doing the Will of God is tough. It requires a lot of searching and wrestling with God. It requires daily prayer and reading the Scriptures. It requires fasting and telling ourselves no. So, why do it? God wants us to be back with Him forever. He desires a friendship with His Creation. The joy we receive from a rightly ordered life and more importantly spending the rest of our lives in the glory of God is so powerful it looks beyond the hardship.
Christ, too, saw this wonderful glory of heaven while on His journey through His Passion and Death. He knew well it would be all worth it. Do you believe? Are you ready to start fighting with your whole heart, soul, mind and will? Eternal life depends on it.
Today’s challenge: Look at the big picture and where your life fits into salvation history now. Reflect on the decisions you have made in the past and how they have formed you today to be who you are. Your future depends on your will and God’s grace. What do you need to change? Seek and you will find. Never give up. Believe.
Be a servant, become a saint!

Today I will ask God what I need to change in my life. I will try to listen with all of my intent as well as to stay silent and still. God knows every word I will speak, every thought I will think, and every action I will make. He knows my hopes and dreams of my adulthood. Today I will listen more than I will speak, so to practice listening to God’s voice.
I can apply this to my life by making right decisions and always looking to Jesus for the answer.
He wishes everyone would be catholic
Jesus came to set the world on fire not to bring peace.
I can apply this to my life by making better decisions in life by giving my all to God
This scripture was kinda hard for me to understand, but I think the takeaway of this scripture is that we should not forget our power we can have on the world. Jesus said, “I have come to set the earth on fire” so we should try and set the world on fire also.
This shows that we need to make peace and not expect Jesus to do it for us. He’s telling us to rely on him but not expect him do do everything for us.
When i make decisions they are all good and bad but either way God is still with me.
we can use this in our every day life by knowing we need God and how he sets our world on fire and that everything we do is for him and not for ourselves. And that we have purpose and a mission.
Jesus has not come to bring peace on earth but to divide it by, dying for our sins and by creating Catholicisms to make us do the right thing.
I have made some pretty stupid decisions in my life. I’m impulsive and I don’t have good self-control. I want to be calm and patient, but I just for some reason cannot bring myself to do it.
I can apply this to my daily life by letting God into my life more.
i can apply this to my life by following the scripture and loving God always
I’ll apply this to my life by building others up instead of knocking them down. Jesus wants us to be with him but our fallen human nature says otherwise. We need to help others and preach the word and fight for what is RIGHT.
We need to let God do what he does. Whether it is destruction or rebuilding of souls or whatever he wants to do. We also need to follow his lead in doing whatever he is doing but not the way he makes it sound.
I will apply this to my life by giving my life to God and to not only pray but to simply talk to God.
I am introverted so while I don’t have as many friends as an extrovert would, he friendships I do have are much closer, meaning that the fire of our relationship is warmer and closer because we all rely on eachother to have a good time and to be there when we need it.
Jesus says he has come to set the world on fire not physically but spiritually he means that he has come to cast the sinners down to hell and the lowly up to heaven he will cast the rich off their thrones and the poor up to heaven
Dang… what words. This…THIS is what I love about Jesus Christ. This fire… the fire of Christ. No… it hasn’t started now. It started when Jesus Christ DIED ON THAT CROSS SO THAT WE MAY KNOW WHO GOD TRULY IS. Jesus is right. He did not come to this world to establish peace. If he was, he wouldn’t have died on that cross, the cursed tree. Yes, we do need a little bit of peace every now and then, but we were not made for peace either. We were made to get to heaven, we were made to suffer. We were made to suffer every little bit so we can repay Christ for OUR stupidity. Let me remind you guys that every time we sin, we nail Jesus to that cross. You want to change your life? Look for the fire that started 2000 years ago. Don’t put it out. Grab a match, a stick, a torch, whatever you have. Put it up against the fire, and put the fire on another person’s soul. ??. May God Bless you all.
I can apply this to my life by taking care of nature and paying more attention to God.
because not everyone is catholic so he is going to give them the fire of the holy spirit
I can apply this to my life by, having hope in God and faith and trusting him. Also by spreading the word of God to others.
This shows us that we need to trust in God no matter what and do His will, even if it means that we have to leave something behind, like our family.
I can Add this to my life by not fighting with my parents, and brother.
I can apply this to my life by going out into the world and setting it on fire by spreading the word
My response is that we need to be ready for the fire of Jesus to come down on us in our hearts an in our souls.
We need to set the earth on fire with kindness. We need to trust in God with all our heart.
To respect who Jesus put you with and to help others that he wants you to help.
I have learned that Jesus is upset over our division in this world. We need to try to make peace with people we argue with the most.
I will apply this to my life by praying and when I pray i will fully let the holy spirit guide my conversation with Jesus. I will open my ears fully to Heaven and let the praise of God flow free through my body and soul.
I think something that sticks out to me is that even though God is our creator and our Father he is not here to just be fun and games he is here to strengthen our faith to and get us closer to him. He is here to love us and protect us but he is also here to get people in order.
I think this scripture is telling us we have to make the decision of following Christ. It is very hard and we will wrestle with God a whole bunch. We just need to be faithful and keep believing in him.
Jesus wants to set our hearts ablaze with the heavenly fire
Jesus was sent to set the world on fire with faith and the world is slowly failing with that which is why we need more missionaries, which calls me to be a missionary
The thing that I need to change is that I need to listen to my heart.
Jesus wishes that we all believe in God
I can apply this to my life by thinking about the Decisions i have made and will make and see if this will build my relationship with God or not.
“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” I think that Jesus wishes that our faith would ignite the world and spread like a wild fire.
I can apply this to my life by trying to do things in order and try not to get all caught up in our fall in human nature.
I didn’t really know what it meant by father against his son and all of that but I thought it was a really cool verse although I think Jesus might be upset on the first part when he says that He wished that the earth was already blazing on fire.
It says that you should fight with all your heart mind and soul and to enter heaven it requires a lot of wrestling with God.
Jesus came to bring all of us together and so we should do our best at what he wants us to do.
I will receive the sacraments because my life depends on God’s grace
This shows me that not everything can be perfect , we must be broken down to be built up again.
Ive been hearing that phrase for a while but have never understood it. Maybe i can let jesus and the Holy spirit in to guide me. maybe it is the holy spirit because it reminds me of pentacost with the toughes of fire
We should be proclaiming God every day and not have to have a vision or proof to change our minds.
Christ set the world on fire, now this isn’t in the literal sense, but what he means is ablaze. To get rid of all the bad, to cleanse the earth with fire. Burn it clean, for all. It’s sin shall be gone. Because the world was in anguish as explicitly stated, he is doing this to put it in the manner it should function, in which it originally functioned. But the division of the people comes along with this, the head of houses not governing the same people.
What God is trying to tell me today is that he has come to set our hearts on fire with his love. He also is wanting us to get away from what the Earth wants us to do, and flock towards him like the lost sheep we are.
Jesus wants to release the fire of the Holy Spirit down on Earth because we have a lot of division in this world that makes us not like how he wants us.
I think this is telling me that I need to stop worrying aout material things and just focus on Jesus. Most people focus on material things and they don’t think to pray or talk to Jesus.
Jesus wishes that we would ignite our world instead of him having to do it himself.
What today’s scripture is telling me is that I must put aside all my worldly possessions: devices, wants, etc. and let in the Holy Spirit to light my path to God and salvation.
I think Jesus is saying that he brought fire to the world and i think that when he says fire he is meaning the Holy Spirit. I think he is saying that it is our choice whether we listen to the Holy Spirit’s guidance or not.
I can apply this to my daily life by understanding that Jesus came to give us purpose and a mission. We all need to be more understanding of that and appreciate it a little more.
Jesus wants to renew the earth, and we need to help him do it by following the commandants and loving our neighbors and praying and spreading the word.
I think that this gospel has two parts. I think the in the first part Jesus is talking about how we should repent and turn to God. He yearns for us to come to Him. In the second part, I think Jesus is speaking of the devil. I think that He is saying that we will have obstacles in our lives. Family, and friends, will be divided, and we will have many distractions. In this world of temptation we should always come back to God.
We have to know that even through the hardships in life and the down days we have, Christ is there with us through it all. We can’t forget that, we have to remember that he will be with us through everything and anything.
In this passage i found out that it’s okay to be a little messed up. It’s okay to be not always happy it’s okay to not always be what you think you need to be. Because it doesn’t matter to God , He cares and loves us so much that He doesn’t care what we are like. He will always love us for eternity.
Jesus is saying that he’s come to set the world a blaze like with his love. Today’s world is rough and everyone, like in the story, are turning against each other. With Gods love, anything is possible. He came with a goal. He came to say he loves us enough to save us and die for us. If we can’t accept that love our world will become chaotic. Like Jesus said father will turn against son, son will turn against father. Mother will turn against daughter and daughter will turn against mother. If we accept Jesus then this won’t happen because Jesus is all love and no hate so if we have him in us how can we hate? Accept God into your life and teach others to accept him too. We don’t want to mess up our world even more then it already is.
Jesus is trying to tell us that we are either against him or with him.
When Jesus says that he came to this Earth to set the world on fire. He means that he wants us to come and follow him and be the disciples of God. To get in that position we must always be praying. Wake up praying, going to lunch praying, laying in bed praying.
I learned that Jesus died for us to be the new life. This also tells me That he died for us to live and flourish in God’s happiness.
To me, this means that even in the hardships we still need to look up to God. He will be our guidance and show us the way. God has a plan for us and we have to trust Him and know that His plan is and always will be there.
Jesus is trying to tell us that we need to follow what he gave us. We have to make a choice between God or the world. By choosing God we follow in Jesus’s footsteps.
God wants us to make God the center of our lives and put Him before everyone we love, including our family members, no matte how hard it is.
Christ set the world on fire to get rid of all the bad that is in our word. He is also trying to set our hearts on fire so that we can go out and preach the word
This scripture today says that jesus set the world on fire of course he didn’t actually set the world on fire he just cleansed the world of sin. Purified the Earth when it was in anguish.
I think that Jesus wants us to change our habits and stop going through the motions.
He wants us to follow him so that we can become devoted followers of God. In order to do so we must not be tempted by the bad things and follower and live by the good things God has given to us.
Jesus only saved us to be loved. He didn’t come down to start any wars. Only to love us, He set the world on fire. All we have to do in return is love Him and pray to him. We can love Him by thanking him, praying to him and just loving Him in a way that we feel loved too.
Jesus came to Earth to set the world on fire with his love. Life is hard. There are so many responsibilities, and hardships, and evil in the world. Jesus wanted to burn it all down, and regrow with his compassion and love. We need to remember this the next time we want to be the cause of the evil, or cause others hardships. If we remember this, we will give Jesus the kindling to start his fire.
Jesus is telling me to act on what I want for the Church. He is coming and we must always be prepared. We must build each other up and open our hearts for His coming.
This passage gave me the message that everyone is here for a reason even if they seem out of place. Jesus came to set the world on fire with compassion and love because fire spreads quickly.
Just like new growth comes from burnt plants, we can be set on fire in Christ and have life in Heaven. We may experience opposition, even from family members, when we live out our faith, but God will help us.
Jesus says that he will divide households by setting the world ablaze to cleanse it of sin.
God created us, loved us, teaches us, waits for us, and so much more. He knows us. He knows what we are thinking about that person you don’t like across the room. He knows what you are about to do he knows what you are going to do in 25 years. He knows everything. Do we ever want our parents, grandparents, or a priest to know what we are thinking or saying around our friends? no. God sees and hears everything, whether you like it or not. Use this as a good thing because if you notice him constantly in your life then you will feel that example he is setting for you. All you have to do is slow down and listen.
This passage is telling me that god came into the world to give this evil world love. It’s okay to be imperfect. Everyone is imperfect in this world, there can be NO perfect person out there. Jesus loves us all, and we have the Holy Spirit if we get off track. The Holy Spirit guides us and helps us. The Holy Trinity is very important with helping you out in your life. After or during confession you should ALWAYS be repenting and trying to not sin.
Today’s gospel reminds me of what Jesus came to earth to do. Jesus did not come to Earth to create peace. He came to ignite the fire of the Holy Spirit. He came to spread the Good News, to convert people, and to get them to follow him. Many people started to follow Him and loved Him. However, many other people started to hate him and they are the ones who eventually crucified him. In today’s gospel, it is in a way giving you the big question, “Who do you say I am?” It asks do you believe or do you not believe He is the Christ?
Jesus came to create division. Without division there is no great love for our Lord. Without a fight, success does not feel victorious. We must fight for our faith because if we want a deep relationship with Jesus. With a deep relationship with Jesus we will set the World on fire.
At judgemnt day christ will seperate the good from the bad divide families and homes. The path to heaven is very rough and we must ask God for directions
God is in my life guiding me and helping me love and make good decisions.
Jesus is saying that He is more important than anything on Earth. He wants us to care more about Him than our relatives on Earth.
The lord has come to make things holy so he wants us to set the world on fire with love and holiness because he loves us so much and want us to make it to heaven
God wants us to love everyone, and like fire love will spread.
What I think God is trying to tell me today is that He is trying to set our hearts on fire with the love of Christ. He does not was us to be lost in sin and evil, he wants us to be lost in His love and peace. We need God, He does not need us
Jesus is telling us to trust in him. We can’t do anything without God. He is also telling us to make good decisions and to love everyone like he loves us.
I think the scripture is trying to say is that we need God in our lives. In the scripture it said that we can either die from ourselves our own flesh and blood. We can do that or we can live our lives with God in happiness. We can live our lives in happiness or in sorrow. The only way we can be happy is through God because God’s love is greater than all love. God is the only person who will not stop loving us.
I think that Jesus tells us this because he knows that his followers will be persecuted. His teachings will not always be followed. This will bring division of peoples beliefs and his followers must persevere.
This world is amazing and we need to take care of it. The world needs to be set on fire with the love of Christ and his angels. Jesus is always there for us and will be there no matter what is happening, and when you least expect it. Seeing this world on fire with God’s unconditional love would be perfect, knowing that God is in control and that we are all safe makes me want to always be on good conduct. I can apply this to my life by spreading the word of God with the faithful and unfaithful.
I think this scripture is saying that God loves us so much that his own son died for are sins. This is why this religion has never disappeared because this actually happened in this word.
In this Scripture, God asks us to learn to have a better mindset to make better decisions. When having a different mindset you can help others and teach about the word of God.
This means that God created us and he will always love us and forgive us. We just need to pray to Him and believe in everything He says.
this is telling me that god will always love me. If i comit a dark sin he will still love me. If i comit a venial sin he still loves me. God will always love you and me and will always be here for us. If something bad happnes God will be right there for you.
God can see us 24/7. We need to be the best we can be. God loves us and He wants the best for us, so we should let Him know we care by actually doing the right thing in tough situations. Moral of the story, do the right thing.
I think this gospel is telling me that making it to heaven is not easy. We must pray a lot and live a good life or else we will not make it. It requires a lot of searching and looking in the Bible.
God is all love because he gave everything up for us to have half decent live and be good to each other and praise the holy Eucharist.
I think that God is trying to lite the fire in my life
I think that Jesus is telling us that we shouldn’t be afraid to live out our faith, even if other people, such as our friends, and even our family, have different views. Jesus came to divide the world so that people could believe in him, even if others failed to do so, and to help other people to see the truth.
Jesus is telling us that we should set the world on fire just as he did.
After reading this I know i need ask God do i need to change anything in my life am i sacraficing everything i should am i making the wrong decisions
God is in my life guiding me and helping me love and make good decisions.
Jesus came to earth to set the world on fire with his love.
God set this world on fire so the earth could be ridden of all the bad people.
if your having trouble and need a answer then just ask Jesus and he will answer.
I can apply this to my life by always looking to Jesus for the answer and make better decisions than i have lately
I will apply this to my life by not only praying to God when i need to but instead of just praying to him speak with him while i can.
God is saying to give myself fully to God, and let the fire of Christ burn inside of me and everyone else.
this scripture is tell us that Jesus set a fire in us and to make good decisions.
Today in the Gospel God is telling us that he loves us and the fire is the Holy Spirit that comes down. He is also telling us if we don’t make the right decisions we are moving farther away from him but he will always be there for us so make the right and smart decisions that God wants you to make.
God is trying to tell us that getting to heaven is going to be hard, but it will be worth it in the end.
Today’s scripture teaches me that my faith will divide me from people, and that I should be proud of my faith, rather than hide it. People may judge me for what I believe it, but I should have the fire of God instead me so I can do the right thing.
This passage was a little hard for me to understand, but I think that I can apply this passage to my life by trying my best to submit peace to the world and not violence. I can be who I was meant to be and set the world on fire as said by one of the saints.
Jesus came to set a fire that could destroy but won’t. Because the world has began to hate even their own family
I can apply this to my life by reminding myself that God is always good but he doesn’t always have to be nice and soft like when he says that he will bring division. We also know that when God says that he doesn’t mean harm but good for us.
I can apply this to my life by knowing that God knows what is best for me. I should also always look to him for guidance and help.
We can try and make good decisions and trust God.
Jesus mentions today that he has come forth, to set the world on fire and divide persons.
I think we can apply this to our lives by remembering that Christ loves us and the fire is the holy spirit he wants us to be fallowing Christ he wants us to love him but we fail we have a fallen human nature we can always repent and come back but it is only Christ who shall breath his everlasting fire into all of us.
I can put my trust in God and “let him set me on fire”, so I can be the best version of myself.
