Prayer Prompt before reading MT 7:15-20: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.
“SO BY THEIR FRUITS YOU WILL KNOW THEM.” MT 7:15-20
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Obedience is defined as submission to another person’s authority. Jesus has taught us how to be His disciple (follower) and be a saint in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapters 5, 6, and now finishing up in 7. It is the greatest description of Christian morality by God.
Now that we have listened or heard the Word and understand it, we are chosen to obey it, live it and pass it on. Obedience is the first step to holiness. We can talk the talk but now Jesus wants us to walk the walk. This is the most difficult, we are called to follow through and live as a Christian disciple.
First, we are called and chosen to respond to the love of the Father through the Son and fall in love with Jesus. We exist and have purpose solely because God willed it. We are blessed with everything in our life because God willed it. We are sustained because of the Father’s love for us.
Joyful obedience is the only response to this love of God for us. Then following the laws will be joyful instead of feeling like we are living in a straitjacket of rules or allowing Satan to deceive us into thinking God is trying to take away our fun. We were made to bear good fruit, the world needs saints right now in your home, schools, places of work, and communities.
Today’s challenge: Practice obedience. Surrender to God’s will for your life and be joyful amidst the pain and suffering, struggles with sin, and broken relationships. This is not just for young people but adults, too! Obedience is the first step to holiness.
Be a servant, be a saint today!
