Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary.
Jesus said to his disciples:
“The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected
by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.”
Then he said to all,
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?” LK 9:22-25
Why do we have to deny ourselves? We have inherited a fallen human nature that causes us to desire things of this world. Oh, how many times I have followed my own desires instead of the Lord’s. What cross? Our daily crosses. Everyone suffers. It is relative to the situation your are dealt in life, but everyone suffers. Jesus gives purpose to our suffering and fashions our daily crosses to what we can deal with, we can offer them up and receive grace which is necessary to reach heaven. The saints thanked God for their crosses. Our crosses are where we learn to embrace Christ and recognize we need Him falling to our knees to ask for Him to give us what we truly need, His grace, comfort, peace, and joy. It is impossible to be holy without God’s grace. Therefore, we must lose our life to save it. We must become suffering servants like the Master Suffering Servant.
When we believe Jesus resurrected and everything He says is true, we come to His feet each day in the Gospels to learn how to be a good and faithful servant. We must lose our life for the sake of the Gospel. Our suffering has purpose and the saints even looked for ways to suffer more. Why? Jesus gave all. Even more important, He loved doing the will of the Father. The will of the Father was for Jesus to give up His life for the world. We could never even come close to paying Him back. He paid the ultimate sacrifice to save you and me. He continues to sacrifice today to stay with us hidden behind bread and wine, so that we will have spiritual food for the journey. He forgives when we are truly sorry and have fallen. Each time we fall and go through suffering, we become stronger and closer to Him. He strengthens us, never leaves us, always forgives, and is waiting daily for an invitation to be with us in our suffering.
Last, and most importantly, the greatest way to follow Jesus is by being detached from material things. ”What profit is there to gain the whole world but forfeit one’s life.” We are so distracted from what matters most. It takes daily submission to God’s will, prayer, silence, bringing ourselves to the sacraments, and continual learning and instruction by Jesus in the Gospels. We are human and we quickly forget. We are a mystery to ourselves. We need a rock, never changing Truth, to come back to so we do not get off the beaten track. I need Him constantly throughout my day. He has left us with the Holy Spirit to help us understand His Truths and pass them on to others. How shallow is our faith if we cannot pray in public and dialogue with others what we believe.
“Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words
in this faithless and sinful generation,
the Son of Man will be ashamed of
when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
Ouch! I have a lot of work to do! If we believe in the resurrection of Jesus which makes all of His Words True, we must begin to live in our hearts and minds like Christ. Christ is not dead, He is fully alive today with us. He resurrected!!!!! If we want to follow Him, we must die to self, offer up our daily crosses, strengthen our faith through His teachings, put on the Armor of God, and begin to fight Satan and grow in holiness! It is impossible to follow Him, without His grace and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. “Come to me all who are heavy burdened and I will give you rest.” ”My heart is restless until it rests in You.” Amen.
Today’s challenge: Lent is here, make a commitment to grow in holiness, fight Satan, and make time to pray and reflect on the Scriptures. Establish a good habit of this during Lent so that it continues throughout the rest of your life so you can look back at next year’s Lent and say, “I have grown in holiness the last 40 days.”
Be a servant, become a saint!
#Christian YOLO
In today’s scripture Jesus is telling us that the road to heaven isn’t easy and that we have to suffer to get to heaven.
I can apply this to my daily life by realizing that I may not always be accepted and I learned to accept others more.
I feel like God is telling me that no matter what I do on Earth I need to make sure that I try to do it threw God and for him.
We choose to deny that God exists, or Jesus resurrected or whatever we choose to deny about God. It’s kinda sad, ya know, cause Jesus died for us and we just like deny it, and we treat him like trash and stuff.
If we wish to save ourselves, we will lose ourselves. But if we wish to give away all that we own and follow Jesus, we will be given back everything ten fold in Heaven.
I can apply this to my life by knowing that everyone is suffering and I shouldn’t judge if they seem like everything is going there way. I also know that I need to suffer as well to carry my cross. Jesus was killed, scourged, and crowned thorns I think I’ll be fine if I don’t get what I want but what I need.
Jesus says that in order to save ourselves we must lose are life for him to save it.
We can all be rejected and suffer greatly. Jesus had to suffer when he carried his cross and got rejected by the elders and the chief priest.
When we go to God we have to deny ourselves and give everything up for him. We have to let our favorite possessions go and to follow him and to give up your lifestyle.
We need to remember that this life is not the end goal. We need to live life in preparation and prayer so that we may enter into what really matters most. We need to not be greedy and do what is right. What we think is limiting us is actually the only way to happiness and true joy.
I can apply this to my life by praying more, because Jesus died for our sins and he didn’t deserve it but he did it for us. I can also try harder to avoid sin by listening to God and his teachings. When ever we sin its like we are Betraying God, we are acting like Judas.
Even when our lives get rough we just have to remember that Jesus died on the cross for us and saved us from sin. If we pray everyday and ask the Holy spirit to guide us then we can get to heaven.
In today’s scripture Jesus talks about how if you submit your life to God then he will renew it, but if you try and save your life then you will loose it. What I can take away from this is that even if its really hard to pray to God for a little bit every day you will still receive a reward in heaven. Also since its Lent sacrificing your time to worship God is a great choice.
I can apple this to my life by remembering that God wants nothing but the best for me. I need to get away from things that don’t make me happy. I need to grow closer to God and remember that he is the greatest of all.
I can reflect on this scripture by denying myself and follow God instead of my own desires.
I don’t really know what to say about this. The words don’t really stick to me at all, they just slip off my mind. I know it’s Jesus preaching about his death and how we should carry our labors with joy and all that, but there’s not much else other than that.
You did your best that’s what matters
ok
What i got from today’s scripture reading is that Jesus wants us to follow him and make sacrifices, taking the easy way out of things is not the way to go, you have to fight temptaion to get to Heaven
Jesus will never give us a cross we can’t deal with. We have to offer up our crosses as a sacrifice in order to be with Christ. Everyone suffers in a different way depending on their situation. We are too attached to material possessions so we suffer when we are without them. We can’t follow Jesus while we are still attached to material items
God the Father, why do we want popularity? If famous popular people could look into their soul, what would they see? Popular people who think they are cool (in some cases they actually are but they push their “coolness” a bit too far) take one look a me and go “I don’t like this person.” That’s why I don’t want to be popular, especially when I make the wrong decisions. That’s when I look at the book of Job. God sent storms, earthquakes, and even fire to Job, and Job still worshiped the Lord. Then his friends come and feel sorry for him, but Job doesn’t care. He didn’t care that his stuff was destroyed. So God gave him wisdom. He out wised his friends who thought that they were better than him. In the end, God met him yet again and asked for an answer out of him. At first, Job was scared for the fear of the Lord had gotten to his mind, but afterward he gave his answer. God returned that and gave him many riches. Being poor money-wise (which is the reason we all want popularity) isn’t poverty, in fact, being rich and popular is poverty. St. Paul backs me up on this. He says that “the most evil thing in the world is money.” Now on me popular soul thing. It would be one thing if the popular person was like St. Francis of Assisi who got everyone beating his drum. But the most recent popular TikToc celebrity? That would be the most dirtiest thing ever. Even Jesus says it himself in this gospel. “What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himsef?” The answer is negative. I’m not saying this because I think that I’m smarter than all of you. I’m just reading what comes off my mind…
Jesus is telling us that getting to heaven is not going to be easy and we are going to face some challenges in our life. And that we are going to have to give up everything to be with Jesus in heaven.
In this scripture passage Jesus tells us that the road to Heaven is not easy. We will have to carry our crosses and we will be persecuted for our faith. But in the end it will all be worth it.
This is showing how far being selfless and being humble can get you, heaven the ultimate goal is where it can get you . Putting others first will show God that you want to be a walking image of him.
This scripture shows us that we must not be greedy or selfish if we wish to enter Heaven. We are so attached to worldly things like our electronics. We want fame for ourselves, we want all the attention to be on us. This shows how crazy every day life is. We want this, we want that, but none of what we want is leading to God. If we truly want to get to Heaven, we must deny our wants, we must deny ourselves, then we will truly be one with the Lord, and we can then truly be ready to enter Heaven.
In the Gospel today i feel like God is telling us that no mater what sacrifices we make none will ever compere to the sacrifice Jesus made for us.
I can apply this to my life by remembering Jesus died on the cross for us and that he saved us from our sins. and also to accept other people into our groups.
Today’s scripture is talking about that you can choice to follow God or you can choice not to.
The strings of all of the Earthly that we get attached to pulls us away from God. The Bible is our scissors to cut all of those strings, so we can stay with God for eternal life.
what is got from today’s scripture reading is that God wants us to follow him and make sacrifices
What I take away from this is that to enter heaven you must be humble and follow God and the scriptures.
We where made to explore the world so why would we ruin it by not believing in God. We should not get to attached to apps or anything that cant take us to heaven or lead us away from God.
I have heard this many times and especially from Mr. Goertz. At first Jesus talks about what he did for us on the cross and how peter denied him. Then he goes into saying that whoever loses their life because of their faith towards him will regain their life. When I think of this I think of when John the baptist got beheaded by Herod, I have no idea why this reminds me of this but it does.I can take this into my everyday life by praying more often so I’m not stuck in this hole of electronics like I am now and it is harder to dig yourself out of a hole than it is to make one.
I can apply this to my life by praying to get closer to Jesus and fighting of Satan and keeping him from tempting me
Jesus says this to us in the scripture “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.” From this I take that we need to do what is write and not what is cool because this will lead us closer to Heaven with God. This will lead us closer to God because we will be praising God instead of Drinking, or smoking, or cussing, or watching inappropriate stuff.
We need to be selfless not selfish. The world needs to recognize that what you have on earth when you die is the end goal, it’s Heaven. We all need to focus on Heaven, not earthly possessions.
God says that we need to take up our cross daily. This means that we should do the things we don’t want to do, and pray daily. We have to give up some things if we want eternal if with God.
I can apply this to my life by knowing that I have sinned against God. I can take up my cross (my sins) and go to Confession. I can offer good acts of kindness to Him. Lastly, I can repent and fully understand Christ in Scripture and by praying.
When I read this today I was thinking that if we want to follow Jesus then we have to give up everything we have and do and follow him. Even when we are following though we need to carry our cross, which might be watching bad things, or saying cuss words. If we ask for God’s help in this then he might do what we do not want him to do like telling us no but in our mind we know it is the right thing.
Heaven is not about youself I must put others before myself. To deney my self is to make it easier to get to heaven.
If we start to complain about are difficulties in life, we have to remember that God does not give us something that we can’t handle.
I can apply this scripture to my life by trying to pray or listen to God, even when I’m going threw hard times because Jesus was going through a hard time but still he never gave up. Jesus died for our sins and I think the least we can do is pray to him or take a few minutes and say the rosary.
Jesus is saying we should put others before ourselves
In today’s scripture, Jesus is talking about our obsessions. We are obsessed with what people think of us, or material items. Many of us don’t pray outside of our home because we are scared about what people might think or say. When time comes for the second coming, do we want the Lord to see what we become. We need to remember that Jesus is the way the truth and the light. If we live holy lives in union with Him, we will make it to Heaven.
Jesus is saying we should put others before ourselves.
What I think God is trying to tell me in this scripture passage today is that during this Lenten season we must take up our cross and come and follow him. He is the way, the truth, and the life. We must reject what the world wants from us and strive to be like God, fasting in the desert, for 40 days, and 40 nights.
We all have crosses and the best ways for us to deal with those crosses are by reading the gospels and detaching ourselves from material possessions. We should be incredibly grateful that Jesus bared His cross the way that He did, for if He did not listen to the will of the Father, none of us would be able to get to heaven. No one on earth can possibly bare a cross as heavy as the one which Jesus bared; we just have to live with small burdens to bare and we should be thankful for that. Materials don’t matter; the way we deal with our crosses does matter.
This is telling me that if we want to live in the fullness of God forever we need to lose our self. We need to give our whole life up to God. We need to take up out own crosses and love God. He gave up everything for us and we need to repay Him. If you’re doing something for Lent that is hard, that’s very good! Give up or do something that will get you closer to God.
Jesus is saying if you give your life to him then you shall be saved, but if you don’t then you won’t be saved. If we’re not selfish and follow Jesus then maybe we can be saved. We should always choose Jesus.
Today’s Gospel message is a very powerful message, it in turn empowers us to do something great. Jesus suffered, he was constantly ridiculed, insulted, spit, hit, and everything imaginable. But he did what we could not. He died for the world, Jesus died for our sin. He took all of it, the great burden we put upon him, and we are to make good with what we were given. To have God send his only begotten son to us, to help us in our ways, and clear the great sin that has overcome us. Is the basis of our faith. God wants that to get into our brains. We must be similar to him, and give up our fallen human nature. That’s what Baptism is for. To get rid of that and start anew. With our recent confirmation we have brought with a new light, a stronger bond with God. So use this, be like God, be what he aspires us to be.
What I got from the scripture today is that we need to fully believe that Jesus rose from the dead and that he is fully alive in heaven. We also need to remind our selves that Jesus died for us and we need to constantly be giving our whole selves to him.
I can apply this to my daily life by always following God and his plans for me. Always believing in him and what he has to offer.
We need to deny ourselves and follow Jesus. We need to carry our cross because Jesus died for us to be saved.
I think this passage says that money is a bad thing in this world and that we don’t need it to follow Him. Jesus will provide for us in our daily life and He is always there.
The scripture is saying that I need to put God and others before myself. I need to understand not everything is about myself and I was made to be there for others.
I think that Jesus is trying to say that what we gain on this earth cannot come with us in death, that even though we main gain a material thing, we will eventually lose it in death. So he wants us to work for the one thing that will last forever.
Today’s Scripture is telling us to “strengthen our faith through his teachings…” we need to really try and give our attention to God and stop ignoring him especially after he sacrificed himself for us.
In hard times, we should turn to God. God will protect us. I can apply this to my life by praying for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
I can apply this to my life by denying myself for God, and telling everything and anything to him. I need to give him anything he wants or needs of me because without him, i’m not even alive.
In the passage today Jesus is saying that if you want to follow him you must take up your cross. Plus be able to leave everything behind and sacrifice your self for the good of others. You have to lower yourself to the lowest of the low and you can follow him and enter the Kingdom of Heaven. We all need to lower ourselves because we are no better than the person sitting across from us.
Today Jesus says, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily.” He says we must deny ourselves because we cannot be selfish if we truly want to follow God. We also have to take up our crosses such as responsibility, and work because He sacrificed his life for us. He also says, “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” This means that if we do what we want for ourselves, we will lose what is truly important, but if we give up ourselves for others, all of the love we poured out for others will return to us in the future. When Jesus says, “What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?” I think of popularity. Why try to fit that mold and risk losing our true identities trying to be someone we’re not?
We can’t keep our belongings until the last day. We can’t just do what we want as kids, and not follow Christ. We gotta start following Him now, not later. It doesn’t matter if we just follow Him later, it matters if we start now. Get ride of our belongings and follow Him. We worship and follow God, not our material possessions.
Jesus is basically saying hey if you were super rich and wealthy and you were a real jerk about it when you were alive. I am going to send you to hell and the poor dude you used to make fun will go to heaven and get ten times what you got because he was a good dude but got really bad treatment. I don’t think he is saying “you were born with money? oh okay… GO TO HELL.” He is saying “lets see, you helped people, you clothed people, you gave them shelter, you supported them, you prayed.” then the devil says “hey that guys mine he had a million bazillion dollars, oh and he cheated on his math test in sixth grade.” Then God says ” so what he was privileged, I love him and hes a great dude, even if he did cheat on a math test.” Be humble and you will be loved by all in Heaven. It doesn’t matter if we can afford a Lamborghini, it depends on who we are and who we try to be.
We must trust that Jesus will help us. We each have a cross to carry and it’s not getting easier. Jesus can help us carry our cross and guide us on the right path. Most people don’t spend enough time with God and need to make space for him in their day. We can trust that he’ll do the right thing for us.
I can apply this to my life by inviting God into my life. I need to believe in God and that even in the hard times in life I know he has a plan for me.
Jesus tells us today that we must deny ourselves to follow him. What he means is we must deny ourselves, and our temptations. How many times a day are we tempted? How many times a day do we give in to this temptation? In order to fully follow Jesus, we must deny ourselves the pleasure that we think giving in to the temptation will bring us, because, in truth, it really will just lead us to misery.
We have to deny our fallen human nature in order to desire the things of God. We must embrace our crosses and follow Jesus. We need to detach ourselves from material things and lose our lives for the Gospel. God will be our rock to hold on to and steer us on the right path.
We have to give up everything to get to heaven and get closer to heaven and closer to God. We have to realize that people suffer greatly just to follow God even if that person has nothing. We need to care about others and give to others and follow Jesus and in his footsteps as much as we can.
From this scripture, I got that we have lessened Jesus in our lives. Jesus should be the #1 thing to think about everyday. But, our worldly things have gotten so in control of our lives.
Jesus asks us what good it does to gain the whole world yet lose our soul and I agree. We don’t need to be popular, we just need to be holy and good. I don’t want to have the world’s eyes on me, I just want to be myself. I don’t want to be like those people who think they are better than everyone else and treat people badly, because no one likes those people. We need to stop treating everyone badly and be kind to everyone. I don’t have a device of my own at home, and I sure am glad I don’t, because there is just so much bullying and judgement on the Internet. It is easier to put other people down, but it’s not right. If you are just kind to people, you might find that you make friends in the most unexpected places.
Today, Jesus reminds us that being materialistic will not help us get to heaven. We must deny ourselves and ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance to do His will to get to heaven. This life is temporary, so we should focus on the important things.
Everyone has hard times. All of us struggle daily, and some problems don’t look like they can be fixed. There is, however, someone who can help us. God will always listen, even when your friends don’t, Jesus understands you and you problems, no matter how small, and God will be there to support us, even when those closest to us won’t. Then why don’t we follow the Lord? The answer is easy, there is no excuse not to! We will struggle, and still have problems, but He won’t leave, He won’t turn a blind eye when we’re hurt, He will be there for you and me. We need Him, so don’t pretend as if you can make it through life without Him.
This tells me that I should be more worried about my Holy life than my normal life . This also tells me to love Jesus more than my worldly objects.
In today’s scripture, what it is saying to me is that you can’t get to heaven by yourself. You alone cannot save your soul. Who you really NEED is Jesus. What you really need is Jesus in the Eucharist, Jesus in His graces, Jesus in His forgiveness, and Jesus in His everlasting love. Like father Issac said Happiness is not spelled “M-E” it is spelled “Y-O-U”. Jesus, and Jesus alone can save us. By ourselves we are nothing, but with Jesus we can do anything.
We should never become greedy and selfish. Once we go into Heaven, we can Not bring our materialistic things with us up to Heaven. We should never become attached to our earthly things. It’s better to listen to God now, even if your late, it’s better than never. God knows what’s best for us, and we should trust in Him.
Jesus is trying to tell us to sacrifice. In today’s scripture it says ” … for whoever wishes to save his life must lose it…”. This gets my attention. We need to give ourselves up everyday to God and spread his word to others. We are always listening to what Mr. Goertz says , but do we actually pay attention. Most of us treat this just as another class and don’t pay attention. It’s just another part of our day that we go through. We really need to actually give ourselves up in our every day lives and listen to God!
In order to have the best life we need to focus on the well being of others rather than ourselves. If we always put our self first and other never in consideration than how would that make those around us? If we don’t tale them into consideration then we’ll continue doing what we think matters and only helps us. If we continue like that then we’ll never be able to get on the right path and stray farther from the right one. That is also something struggle with. Sometimes I do things that i enjoy, but don’t ever take the time to think about what those who are with me want to do. I take what I think would benefit me more and please me more than the ones by me. I always feel like i need to have more than others and if I have less then it frustrates me even more than if I don’t have more or if I don’t have have exactly the same amount as someone else, although this is mostly how I feel when I’m with my brothers. I’m aware that this is a big issue and I do want to do something to fix it and i just need to find a way for me to think about others first and then myself a little more than I do compared to now.
We need God, but He doesn’t need us. He loves us and he always wants the best for us, but He doesn’t need us. We will always need Him. It is a struggle to get to Heaven, but if it was easy there wouldn’t be any point of living. We need to work hard to strengthen our faith with God so that we can earn Heaven and Gods presence. We need to WANT to go to Heaven. If we just half try, or don’t fully commit ourselves to God than we are not doing all we can to grow closer to God. This should be our ultimate goal!
If we are to follow Jesus we must actually practice our faith. We cannot just say we are Catholic and get to heaven. We must put in the effort to get something in return.
We need to be more humble. We need to focus more on prayer and not on material things, because when we get to heaven we won’t have any of those anymore. Also we can’t become selfish and think we are better than someone. We are all equal and we should try to be humble like Jesus was.
God should be our ultimate goal!
This is telling me that we need to live in the fullness of God, we need to lose our self and do what God wants us to do. We need to give our whole being up to God and bear our own crosses. Jesus gave up everything for us and we need to do something in return for him. Give up or lose something for Lent. That will get you closer to God.
In this scripture Jesus tells us to not be selfish and greedy. We need to treat everyone like their own person, and not like an object. Even though everyone has their own struggles we still need to be nice and Christ-like towards everyone. We need to know that everyone has bad days and struggles and we need to respect that they are having a bad day, and not be rude. We should be Christ-like and kind to them.
Getting into heaven will not be easy. We need to do a lot of preparing for Jesus. We need to live like Christ and be humble and kind. We have a purpose to be here and we need to fulfill that purpose.
Today in this gospel God was telling me that we need to be selfless in order to get into heave. Once you have gave away all your stuff to poor or other God will be ready to take you under his wing. Hell is made up of selfish people who put things like money, drugs and other stuff in front of others.
We need to practise are faith so we can get to heaven. We need to go to mass and do all the sacraments we can. We do this so we can be in heaven for eternity.
Jesus is telling me that if you have everything in the world it will be hard for you to enter the kingdom of heaven. Jesus is also telling me that if you give up your life for me and sacrifice you will rewarded. If you are a martyr you will go straight to heaven. If will be hard to follow Jesus but we must pick up our cross and follow him.
In today’s Gospel we hear that in order to follow Jesus into Heaven, we must give up everything we have. Once we have given up all of our worldly possessions, we can devote ourselves entirely and completely to him. Then we can live the life he wants us to live.
I can turn to prayer when I am having a rough time in my life.
In today’s passage Jesus is saying for us to follow Him, we need to be HUMBLE. Humility is the key if we want to follow Him.
Jesus is saying that if you want to follow Him it won’t be easy and other people might not accept you for your faith. He also says we have to carry our own problems like Jesus had to carry the cross.
I think in this Scripture reflection it’s trying to say that we will be judged by others if we follow Christ. When we follow Christ, we have to let go of worldly things and focus only on God. Instead of worldly things, we need to love others, God, and ourselves.
We believe that God ressurected from the dead, and by that we are staying on our track to heaven. Heaven is the main goal in life. There is no point unless God is here with us. The question is, are we there with God?
If we love our selves too much we will lose ourselves. We need God but He doesn’t need us. We need to give our all to Him always.
I can apply this to my daily life by reading the gospel every day to stay in touch with God. I can also fast because in the scripture it says that the best way to grow closer to God is by detaching from material things.
This Gospel is Jesus’ warning to Catholics that following Him will not be easy. To truly follow Jesus, we must love others, and do what is best, not what is easiest.
We need to believe that Jesus is fully alive in the Eucharist. We need to follow Him in our daily lives.
We all sin and we try to stop but now that its ash Wednesday i have given up on sinning at least try but what God is teaching us is to follow him
We need to pay more attention to God. Instead of playing video games or facetiming people we should talk to God
Jesus is telling us to pick up our cross and follow him. We need to stay humble and understand that we can’t live without Jesus. This life isn’t the final horizon and the material things don’t matter only Jesus.
I can put this into my life by doing what Jesus says. I should take up my cross and follow him. I should not let the opinions of others get in the way of my faith.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus is saying that the road to Heaven won’t be easy. We need to pick up our own crosses and follow him every day. I can apply this to my life by praying daily, and making time out of a busy day to spend time with Jesus.
I can apply this scripture passage to my life today by recognizing that getting to heaven is not going to be easy, but I can make it easier for myself if I detach from my sins and do what ever I do for the rest of my life with love and for God. We all have crosses in our lives and instead of avoiding them, we should grow to accept them and carry them with love so that we can get to eternal happiness with God in heaven.
I feel that today the gospel is trying to tell me that we must fully devote ourselves, we can not just only put half effort into things. Jesus said ““If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?” we as humans strive for earthly things like screens, but we must truly love god in all we do.
i think its saying that we will be tempted and suffer on the road to heaven and it will be very hard to get to heaven. if we trust in God and keep faith in him the whole way and keep praying we will make it there.
This is teaching us that in order to enter heaven we have to give ourselves up and we have to give up our belongings, our ego, our own self to see and enter the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus is telling us today that we basically can’t be eternal in heaven if we don’t believe in God or have in our life at all times. We need to be at the foot of the cross where God died always having him in our life no matter whats going on or know matter if there is something going bad in your life and he hasn’t helped you yet still believe in him. Welcome him into are boat. He loves us that much.
I can apply this to my life by realizing that I have to give up stuff. I can’t go around not doing any fasting, and expect to get to heaven! I’ve got to live my life. but I’ve got to live it in a holy state. Some people think that they can just go to confession before they die. But they don’t get the point. If you are planning on just going to confession before you die, there is a big problem with that! there is a major flaw in your plan! You can’t sin all you want, receive the sacrament of confession before you die, and expect to go right to heaven! Reason A: you still have to wait in purgatory for all of the sins you committed in life. Just because you don’t have mortal sin, doesn’t mean you go straight to heaven. All that mortal sin does when you die is lock you down in Hell for all of your now miserable eternity. You still have to wait for all of the venial sins you have committed, and also for all of the mortal ones you have confessed. Reason B: if you are going to do that, and sin all you want in life, you probably won’t be sorry for it when you die. God doesn’t work that way. Sure he loves you, but you can’t get away with it that easily!!! If you could just go to confession, sorry or not sorry, and go to heaven, right away, don’t you think people would be doing that all the time?! Doing all of that YOLO stuff? Well, sorry to disappoint, but that’s not how it works.
The very first part of the Gospel tells us that the son of man will be rejected by society, killed, and raised again on the third day. It then goes on to Jesus telling us to take up our crosses, and deny ourselves to follow him. That second part is relatively easy to decipher. We are all suffering, but to follow Jesus, we must deny our worldly desires, and joyfully accept our suffering. But the first part is interesting, because if you think about it, in a way, it’s talking about what us as Christians must do. “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,” as Christians, we must go against this society that is designed to be against religion. “and be killed,” we have to take up our crosses, as Jesus took up his, and deal with our suffering for the joy of God. “and on the third day be raised,” in this line, it’s talking about Heaven. If we have lived a good Christian life, according the the other parts of this piece of scripture, we will be granted eternal life, and the next world, at the end of this one.
In this passage, Jesus is telling us that if we want to go to heaven, we must put aside all of our earthly things, pick up our cross, and follow him. We must become selfless.
“If Anyone wished to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”
What this saying is trying to tell me is if we want to follow Christ, we need to deny loving ourselves and this world so much and COME TO HIM! It also reminds me of Lent. When it says, “..and take up his cross daily..” That tells me that we need to pick up our burden and give it to him. “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it..” and “..whoever loses his life for my sake will save it..” I think it is saying that if we deny Jesus or God, that we will lose our life in hell. But if we tell people that we will never deny him, then we will have eternity in Heaven.
I can apply this to our life because everyone has burdens to carry. We must live our lives like we are going to heaven the next day and follow God. Then we can live our lives like we want.
Jesus is telling us that we have to always follow him even though it is gonna be hard because of temptations. We have to read the gospel and always make time for Jesus by praying or going to mass. WE must choose God over anything else.
From the Gospel I learned that we need to humble ourselves to enter the kingdom of God.
what i feel it is telling me is that telling me is that i need to understand that there are more ways to speak to jesus than through a priest we can also go through God to get to Jesus
God is more important than any social media. We should not gossip or start drama. Sometimes it seems as instead of worshiping God we worship electronics and we should worship God more and not our electronics.
In the scripture today it says “Whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Jesus will be saved.” This a strong message that Jesus wants us to give up our Earthly lives to follow him. This means giving up our possessions to follow him. Everyone who tries saving their possessions during the second coming will lose it.
We need God but he doesn’t need us. He loves us and wants us to be with him. We have to turn away from sin and walk towards God.
One thing that all Catholics have to realize is that we will be persecuted for our faith. Even Jesus Himself was persecuted and He is the Son of God. Even if the world is against us we must stand strong with our faith. The world offers us things that are nice, but aren’t necessary, some can even lead us away from God. But we must stay with God because we will be rewarded in Heaven.
what I got from today’s scripture reading is that God wants us to follow him and make sacrifices for him and others.
Today, Jesus explains to the apostles that we must establish our lives toward God to save ourselves completely. With all our wisdom and knowledge, we must come to understand that our world here, our animals and objects are not what we truly desire. Our heavenly father created us in his image and likeness, where we desire love. This love is discovered from fully giving ourselves to the Lord and from attributing acts of faith as young christian disciples. Because of this, we must carry the cross daily and forfeit ourselves, so that one day, we will live forever in heaven.
The end goal is Heaven. So we need to do our best on Earth to do the best in Heaven.
