Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening,
and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying,
“John has been raised from the dead”;
others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”;
still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.”
But Herod said, “John I beheaded.
Who then is this about whom I hear such things?”
And he kept trying to see him. Lk 9:7-9
Today, Luke begins to write about the identity of Jesus and he uses Herod as the person who is “perplexed” about what the people were saying. The identity of Jesus will be revealed in the coming Gospel readings. The question I would like to pose today is who is Jesus for you? Is He a slot machine where you put petitions in and expect Him to grant your every wish in return? Do we sin knowing we can just go to confession so it is no big deal because Jesus will forgive us (sin of presumption)? Have we ever read one of the Gospels beginning to end in search of the identity of Jesus? It is one thing to know about Jesus and another to know Jesus.
Most importantly, do we spend time in adoration with Jesus listening to what He has to say? Jesus is about to reveal His identity in the upcoming Gospel readings. Listen to what He says and decide if you really believe. If so, it requires a radical change in your life. As a baptized believer in Jesus Christ our duty is to reject Satan and follow Jesus more closely each day (strive for holiness). Jesus gave all for you, are you willing to give all for Him? He wants to give you true happiness.
Today’s challenge: Christianity is a religion that is a relationship with a person not a set of rules to follow. If you are searching for true happiness, seek Jesus the God Man. Take time each day to listen to Him.
Be a servant, become a saint!

Heart, Fight, Trust
In today’s gospel, we learn that we should not seek too much power. We should believe Jesus is our savior and Messiah. We should always trust in him.
What reached out to me was, “Who then is this about whom I hear such things?”. What this means to me is that we can’t hear abut Jesus and go on with our lives. We have to make him part of our lives.
In this Gospel, the people ponder on who Jesus really is. Some of the people said that Jesus was a prophet or John the Baptist. I know who Jesus is. Jesus is the Son of God. He is the great I Am. Jesus is our God. We need to realize this when we pray. When we pray we are talking to God, the creator of the universe.
“The identity of Jesus will be revealed in the coming Gospel readings.” This part realy spoke to me becuase it says that Jesus is revealed in the Gospel, and that is true. Jesus shows us who He is through the Gespel. He wants us to get to know Him and we can do that through the Gospel and prayer.
Many of the Kings like Herod saw Jesus as a threat. They thought he was coming to take his throne but he wasn’t. He already has a throne in Heaven. The kings thought that they knew what Jesus was doing but really they don’t know. Jesus has a plan for himself and for everyone. We have to follow his plan if we want happiness and to get to heaven.
In today’s scripture it is telling us that John was beheaded but Herod did not want to behead him and he wanted to see John cause he has missed him very much and have wanted him to talk to him.
We have to ask ourselves who Jesus is for us. We have to really think about whether we know about Jesus, or we actually know Jesus. God’s voice is a quiet one, but it is there, so we really have to listen. We also have to ask ourselves if we expect Jesus to fulfill our every wish, and if we think it’s okay to since because you can always go to Confession. Assuming those things would be the sin of presumption. We, as baptized sons and daughters of Christ our Lord, have to reject Satan and grow closer to God and strive for holiness every, single, day.
Jesus is the most powerful. He is not just a prophet. He is Jesus the Son of God. Even King Herod is confused about who Jesus is because Jesus is the King of kings. We need to be humble and realize that God is the most powerful, and He is truly God.
Who is Jesus for us? Do we just see him as someone to take advantage of or do we see him as a friend? Jesus isn’t just our slot machine for prayers. Jesus isn’t just gonna give us everything we want. We have to work for it. Yes Jesus wants the best for us, but he’s here to be a guide and a friend, not a genie.
In today’s reading “And he kept trying to see him. “stuck out to me because he wanted to know and find Jesus i think because he loved what John had to say. To he looked for him because he killed john and couldn’t listen to him. Herod fell into peer pressure of trying to impress people.
he was tring to tell evry bother tah tis is the king
I believe Herad is scared because he regrets beheading John the Baptist but then they hear a great prophet has arisen and he gets scared.
I think this Gospel is telling me to listen to Jesus and not everything else on the internet. I feel like Herod in this gospel was listening to a lot of people around him and he was confused but now we need to listen to what God is telling us so we can be close with him.
No, I don’t think of Jesus or God as a slot machine. I know that he will not all the prays I have will be answered. I know that somethings in life are the way they are to test you mentally, physically, and spiritually.
The Gospel talks about How people were confused who had risen from the dead. The Gospel also talks about how Herod come out to say that he beheaded John the Baptist. Which means that is who arisen from the dead.
Sometimes we go through the motions not really feeling the Lord just trying to pass religion, but God wants us to seek Him and love Him. When we turn our backs on God and only go to Him when times are rough, is that truly loving Him. Instead of using Him as a place to only ask things of Him, we should go to Him out of love and sacrifice.
This scripture today has very many meanings to it. One of the biggest take-away I have from this is that Jesus has to be number one. He just has to be. He needs to be the center of our life. We can’t just worship idol gods to think it makes us happy. Jesus is the only person who can truly make us happy. Trust me if you run to Him like you run to your best friend, he will hug you and never let you go. He is your true home. He is your biggest supporter. No matter what happens he will comfort you.
You shouldnt push Jesus to the side he should always be your first option. He is the center of life he started everything and hes our everything. Jesus is our source of happiness and love he gave us a chance to follow him so use it wisely.
This has a couple meanings to it. We shouldn’t seek power. Jesus is also the only person that can make us completely happy in life.
in the gospel it says “thy will be done”. i think he wants us to subbmit ourselves to him and well, do his will as it says “thy will be done”.
Herod is confused because people are saying that quote, “John has been raised from the dead.” Yet again they say, “Elijha has appeared.” So I’m assuming that they are talking about the Transfiguration but John (the baptist) didn’t appear so I’m not 100% sure on that one.
But I feel like Herod just couldn’t let go of the feeling of pure hatred and jerkiness if that’s a word. He just couldn’t let go of not being the only one people worship.
who is Jesus for you? Is He a slot machine where you put petitions in and expect Him to grant your every wish in return? Do we sin knowing we can just go to confession so it is no big deal because Jesus will forgive us (sin of presumption)? this hit me because I actually dont know.
Do we sin knowing we can just go to confession so it is no big deal because Jesus will forgive us (sin of presumption)? Stuck out to me because it means do people sin just knowing they can go to confession and be forgiven.
We should always believe in Jesus and the holy trinity. Believing in just that can change our lives so it is very important thing that we do truly believe in him.
“humbly submit yourself to God” We need to let God control our lives. God will give us everything and tell us everything if we let him. Jesus needs to be the center of our lives.
What stuck out to me was “Who is Jesus to you, is he a slot machine where you put petitions in and you expect to him to grant you a wish in return.” We can’t take Jesus for granted we really need to believe and think. We’ll all go through that question is Jesus real, we really need to think and realize that he died for our sins. We really are all child’s of God we just need to realize, it takes all of us.
We need to spend more time with Jesus, and getting to know Jesus. We need to pay attention to Jesus all throughout the day, not just when saying prayers, or when we go to mass, we need to remember that he is always with and is always guiding us throughout our everyday lives. Jesus needs to be number one in our lives.
We need to realize God and not just hear him then ignore it later on we need to remember him and make him apart of our lives and truly feel God.
“The identity of Jesus will be revealed in the coming Gospel readings. ” That just really stuck out to me. When I read that I realized how much Jesus talks to us through the bible. If we ever need help we can just go to the bible and have Jesus always be there for us. I don’t think people realize how much Jesus loves us and truly cares for us through the bible.
He wants me to look and talk to him when we talk to him we will find who we are looking for!
What stuck out to me is when he said, “One of the ancient prophets have arisen” This stuck out to me because it I thought if we are risen more into our faith I feel like God would say One of children have risen kind of like the lost sheep how he did all to find that one sheep God would do anything to get you to become as close as possible to him and bring your whole focus to him.
In today’s scripture the thing that stuck out to me the most was do we sin knowing that we can go to confession and it will be no big deal. Do we know every time we sin we hurt Jesus. Also the other thing that stuck out to me was “Who was Jesus to you?” For me Jesus is multiple things to me he is the Son of God, a friend, But mostly my savior. My savior died a horrible death on that cross for me. I goal that I have and I think everybody should have is to grow a better relationship with Jesus. We need to grow closer to him. it will make it easier to talk to him or to focus just on him.
many people have many religions. but we must not be like Herod who was “perplexed”. we must stay true to Christianity. so that by our final breath we can be with Jesus eternally.
A lot of people like to blame Jesus for everything and slowly move away from him,but we all need to give ourselves up to him.
He will take care of us all,and he gave up everything for us,so the least we can do is follow him
You should believe in God. He will always forgive us for our sins.
We just have to go to God whenever were going threw somthing hes there for us to lean on him and listen to him he will always be there for us.
His identity in the upcoming Gospel readings.
I think what God is saying is that people say stuff about other people and we shouldn’t talk behind people’s back like that. We should go up to the person and tell them to stop what they are doing.
Jesus should always be the number one in your life, hes all that really matters in the long run. So, instead of seeking power, seek what Jesus is calling you to do.
What stuck out to me is Christianity is a religion that is a relationship with a person not a set of rules to follow. I feel like more people need to know this the things you say can really affect someone.
god will always forgive no matter what. hes not just a prophet he is GOD and he loves and protects us.
I think this is telling us that there is only one true king and that we need to litsen to him and not everybody else out there on social media or other false gods and idles.
To me Jesus is someone to count on. He is trustworthy and will listen to what you have to say and will give you advice.
This reading kinda reminded me of what we talked about in class. About being jealous of others. It kinda makes me think Herod was perplexed because people were talking about others and if they rose from the dead all the attention would be on them
Our duty is to reject Satan and follow Jesus more closely everyday. Jesus gave all for you and he wants to give you true happiness.
My commit today is that Harold doesn’t know what is happening and is confused about all the people saying ancient prophets are alive. I see in Herod is that he is scared he doesn’t want anyone to know that he is scared so he acts on his emotions.
Today’s scripture stuck out to me because it shows we have to loom for God. God is running after us all the time and has been since the day we were born. We just need to turn to him and find him , and know him for who he really is. To have a relationship with him so we can learn our own identity and get right back on the track to heaven doing what God planned for us in the beginning.
The thing that stuck out to me was “who is Jesus to you?” To me Jesus is several things a friend and my savior, he die on that cross for us so we could be saved, he is our savior.
Humans have a lust for power, we want to be head of everyone and when we aren’t we hurt others to get there. I think the Gospel is saying that we need to trust Jesus for He is the one true leader and no matter what we do what sin we make he will never stop loving us and never not forgive us.
There is so much power in this world it corrupts the people and sticks a plank in their eyes because that power has already has been one with that person that they think other people have no more meaning to them but him and money or who that person is over. The only time they really care is the bigger and more powerful leaders above them becaus thatś when the sin Pride and envy come in. They envy the bigger leaders but take pride in bossing other people around. we need and should want god to erase that.
When you ask the question “Who is Jesus to you?” that is hard for me to explain. But I will try to answer that in this scripture reflection. To me he is someone I can always come back to. He is very important to me and I at least try to take some time to recognize him.
You should always be willing to listen to Jesus and learn about him. Don’t take what he gives for granted and give him all your love and adoration. He will be there for you whenever you need him.
Jesus was doing great things and people thought he was just one of the ancient prophets raised from the dead. they had a hard time believing that Jesus was the messiah.
Jesus was very famous and had rumors about him being john or elishia to the point that even the king wanted to meet him.
Herod doesn’t believe John has arisen. He doesn’t know what Jesus can do, and he doesn’t believe in Jesus.
I think that this Gospel goes to show that when we are curious about something, when we want to know more, we find ways to make it happen. We don’t just sit around with the knowledge that there’s something out there that I want to understand, we go and figure out what it is. We should be the same way with God. Be curious about Him! There are many things that we don’t know about Jesus. And there are several that we may never know. But the things we can know are the things we should be curious about. We should seek Him out. Ask questions about Him, and about the things that He wants to teach us. But we have to ask. So be curious!
We need to know who Jesus is. We need to know that he is the son of God and that he loves us all. We also need to know who he is in us. We need to know that we can talk to him to find out who we are. We all need to strive to be like Jesus but before we do that we need to know who he is so we can be like Him.
I think today’s scripture passage is trying to tell us that sometimes we sin and think that it is okay because we can just confess it later and he will forgive us. We need to not think like this and try not to sin anyway. Jesus gave everything for us. We need to be like him and give everything to Him like He did for us.
I think that the scripture is telling us that even though there are people in the world that spread rumors you don’t have to. For some people it is comforting because since they didn’t do that they have no reason to be worried about it. Some people spread rumors because they want to think that they are better because they are lying.
This gospel is telling us adoraition is very important and should be taken seriously it is a great time to talk to God.
To me this gospel is telling me to seek Jesus. When times are hard we need Him. Nothing is possible without God. We need to go to Him for any struggles in life, because He came down to save us, and we should come to Him to ask of His favor.
whenever we kill Jesus for sin we are not able to see Him. we ask why we can not see Him but its not something we see, its something we should believe in and stop sinning so we can truly see Him.
This gospel is telling us adoraition is very important and should be taken seriously it is a great time to talk to Jesus.
whenever we kill Jesus for sin we are not able to see Him. we ask why we can not see Him but its not something we see, its something we should believe in and stop sinning so we can truly see Him
Today’s scripture is talking to us about John. We should never take God for granted or use him. He is our creator and we need to appreciate what we have in life. Because we don’t know when our time will be.
I learned that we need to go to God when we need help and He’ll be there for us and He will listen to us. He will always forgive us. He loves us so much and He cares for us as well. God will be there for us when we need Him in hard times or when we just need to talk to Him.
I think this gospel talks about believing. The people where saying “ John has risen John has risen.´ ´ This really stuck out to me because we always still have to believe in God even when people will make fun of Christ of say is stupid. Because at the end of the day they are the ones that are stupid.
I think that this is saying is that we can always go to God whenever we need. We can always ask him for help. He may not always answer our prayers right away but he will eventually answer them. But we can always go to God whenever we need.
Who is Jesus to you? Jesus to me is A savior,my God,my love. Some people say that Jesus isn’t real. Or that nobody can die for everyone sin. But He did. “John I beheaded.
Who then is this about whom I hear such things?” Jesus says this like “My child, the one I love. Why would she/he say those thing?” He died for us and I love Him
do we spend time in adoration with Jesus? we need to just talk to him and think bout what he has to say sometimes it is not all about you. we talk enough we need to listen now.
Who is Jesus? Jesus is our friend. He loves us and wants us to know that. We should realize that He is truly God, and truly real.
Jesus was doing great things and people thought he was just one of the ancient prophets raised from the dead. they had a hard time believing that Jesus was the messiah.
When King Herod beheaded John, he knew that what he was doing was wrong. However, he gave into the pressure and did it anyway. I think that in this scripture, he is looking for John not only because he wants to see if he is actually risen, but also to be forgiven. It’s similar to us looking for Jesus after we sin.
But Herod said, “John I beheaded.
Who then is this about whom I hear such things?”
And he kept trying to see him.
We’ve heard that Herod liked John the Baptist and wanted to learn more from him and it show more in these short sentences. Herod was searching for John to find him.
This Scripture is talking about John and king Herod and where the other are talking about how Elijah has risen or John has risen etc I that this means that even after death like you going to rise but your going to rise in heaven and also like its telling us that we should never take Jesus for grant because Jesus is powerful and he can rise anyone if he wants.
“And he kept trying to see him” Even Herod wanted to see Jesus. Herod was by no means, a good man. He married his brother’s wife, he liked his niece, and he beheaded John the baptist. But even after all of those, he knew that Jesus was something else. If he could realize that, don’t you think we should too? I feel we should.
I think the scripture is saying that we need to be open and listen and trust others’ word. Also that we need to be able to listen to God and be able to fully trust Him.
The message I got from this scripture was that to have a relationship with God you need to believe. Without faith and love there is no relationship in anything. Herod is in disbelief. He doesn’t know who this Jesus guy is. He pushes God away. That is why belief is very strong.
This scripture is asking us who Jesus is for us. Is he just a slot machine and whenever we want something he should just give us it? Or when we sin we can just go to confession so it does not really matter. Jesus should be the center of our world. He is love. He is the most generous person in the whole world. He will chase us (sinners) for eternity. He already loves us we have to let ourselves love him. He is the only person that will always love us. He will never forget about us.
Who is Jesus to me? Jesus is my Savior. He is the Son of God. The one who died on the cross, just so He can save us. Jesus is so selfless. He gave His life away for us. Jesus loves us. Jesus loves you. Jesus loves me. :Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed..”. Herod was so puzzled by all that was happening, He was puzzled about Jesus’s love!
This gospel tells us that we should be grateful for the time that we have with Jesus. In adoration we may just go to not even talk to God but because we were told to. We need to not think that we are any better than God and we need to praise him forever and ever. We may think that after one bad circumstance that are life is ending but we need to know that God has us 24/7 but we just need to trust him. Just like the people trusted that he would raise lazurus.
What stuck out to me was “And he kept trying to see him.” This is telling us that we do not have to see with our eyes but we can hear or feel or with our other senses we do not always have to see with our eyes to believe something but we can through Jesus.
I think in today’s Gospel God is telling us that He is the great I AM. He is the ruler and creator of our beautiful souls and bodies. No one can take us away from God. You can always pray to Him and He will always love you till the end of eternity.
“Who then is this about whom I hear such things?” Sometimes I wonder if we aren’t like Herod. We hear about God, but we don’t know Him. We know he exists, just not where. We know he’s always there, but we don’t believe it.
There have been times in my life when I have known God exists, and still asked “who?” It’s normal. It’s human to want explanations for everything. We just have to trust it’s God giving the answers as to who he is. Be his student.
The phrase that stood out to me was “Jesus gave all for you, are you willing to give all for Him?”. This really hits you once you actually realize how much Jesus has done for us. He gave his life away, in a way that was a form of torture. There are very few people who would actually do that. The fact that Jesus did all of that just for us? Life changing. “There’s no shadow you won’t light up, no mountain you won’t climb up, coming after me.” The song which that quote comes from really puts it into perspective how much He loves us.
Who is Jesus? Jesus is our savior. Jesus is the person that saved us by dying on a cross. Jesus saved us even though we are all sinners. Jesus is someone who loves us for ourselves. Jesus is someone who would never judge us or treat us with anything other than love. Jesus died because he loves us and would do anything for us.
This means that God hears anything that is being spoken.
The passage says that John rose from the dead, and that reminded me that we can also rise from the dead. We might not be able to rise like the Lord did, but we an still rise from the dead. God=life and life=God. When we die we can rise to life (Heaven).
A lot of people like to blame Jesus for everything and slowly move away from him,but we all need to give ourselves up to him.
He will take care of us all,and he gave up everything for us,so the least we can do is follow him
“John I beheaded.
Who then is this about whom I hear such things?” this shows even when we push God away he is always waiting for us
In this we learned that Herod didn’t think someone he’d killed came back from the dead. But if the will of God wants it, it could happen.
I believe that the biggest problems of our age is pride and the fact that it is not easy to just sit and listen. We always want to be doing something. This passage is saying that Herod was too restless to just sit and think, he needed to get out there, because he as king should know every thing going on, and he should be the center of everthing.
Most importantly, do we spend time in adoration with Jesus listening to what He has to say? Jesus is about to reveal His identity in the upcoming Gospel readings. Listen to what He says and decide if you really believe. If so, it requires a radical change in your life. As a baptized believer in Jesus Christ our duty is to reject Satan and follow Jesus more closely each day (strive for holiness)
to me this means like dont bully people and if u do it will always come back to you somehow and dont be rude to people and alawys prays God no matter what
As a baptized believer in Jesus Christ our duty is to reject Satan and follow Jesus more closely each day . Jesus gave all for you, are you willing to give all for Him. He wants to give you true happiness. This stuck out at me because God only wants the best for us. We have to give him the best from us too.
Jesus reveals himself through the Gospel. It is important to listen to the Gospel because it is the word of God. We are called to follow the Lord and one way to do that is by listening to the Gospel at Mass, and praying everyday.
Is He a slot machine where you put petitions in and expect Him to grant your every wish in return? This stood out to me because we can’t expect people to do things for us. We need to be self reliant. We need to keep praying and wait for God to answer us even if it takes years. Don’t stop praying, he will answer you.
The thing that stuck out to me is that. Its one thing to know about Jesus and to know Jesus. What it means to me is that just knowing facts isn’t enough we need to believe in him build a relationship. So that we can go to heaven and praise him forever.
Humbly submit your will to God and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph. And As a baptized believer in Jesus Christ our duty is to reject Satan and follow Jesus more closely each day. Christianity is a religion that is a relationship with a person not a set of rules to follow.
who is Jesus for you. To me he is the savior and is willing to do anything for us, Even die on the cross.
What stuck out to me was that Christianity is a religion that is a relationship with God not rules.
What stuck out to me is that Herod was really puzzled that people were getting raised from the dead. He said he beheaded John but people thought that John was doing it. They didn’t belive that Jesus was the one that was rising people up. What we need to to is believe, believe in Jesus. Do not believe in any other god. Jesus is the only and only God. I also think Herod was jealous of Jesus because Jesus was getting more attention than he was. We need to not be jealous of anybody for God made us our own person.
I think this means that we need to listen to God, and listen to our hearts. If we don’t listen, how can we ever really know anything? God is forever telling us what we need to do to succeed, but if we listen to temptation, we can’t hear Him.
We should not take God as an advantage and expect all of our petitions to be answered. I think that needs to be in this. BUT we need to listen to what God is saying instead of just praying or repeating after people, we must listen and think about God.
Jesus to me is someone who loved the world so very much that he died for all of us. That God in Jesus cared for us so much that he never stops wanting us to turn to him in prayer. Even though it is hard we need to open up to him and love him.
We should not take Jesus for granted and you need to make sure you are not putting something before God. We need to realize how much God cares about us and how much miracles he has done in our life.
Jesus reveals himself through the Gospels today. He loves us and wants Himself to be known to us, so that we may have happiness and eternal life. He reveals His powers by doing miracles and proclaiming His godliness. He will save us, because He truly cares for us.
don’t go and use God for yourself and espect for him to forgive just because you go to confession.
You don’t know how much you need God intill he is gone.
This particular section in Luke tells us the identity of Jesus. It also asks do we trust Jesus or not. We must always have trust in Jesus.
In this reading, it asks us if we are just using God as a slot machine. He will only answer our prayers if it is his will. We do not decide what is right for us.
What I am getting from this is that there is a lot of people who say things and some aren’t even true. People talk a lot sometimes but there is no proof. We need to think first and see if what they are saying is true before we go tell other people.
