“FOR THE SON OF MAN DID NOT COME TO BE SERVED BUT TO SERVE AND TO GIVE HIS LIFE AS A RANSOM FOR MANY.” MK 10:32-45
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Jesus is teaching us how to become a saint. Pride is difficult to conquer, but Jesus teaches us that humility and unselfishness will conquer pride. Jesus teaches us this in the first Beatitude and God teaches us this in the first 3 commandments. We begin our Creed with the Father and the Lord’s Prayer begins with the Father. God is God and we are not God (humility). Here lies the key, He does not hold it over our heads. He is the most humble and nobody can outdo God in generosity.
God wills the good of the other and does something about it all of the time, so He is a Being full of joy all of the time. Remember, we come from God (His image and likeness; an overflow of His love), we are called to serve Him, and return to Him. This is His greatest desire!
We are called to wake each day and remember our identity in God and our purpose, to give glory to God in all we do. We didn’t make ourselves and we certainly did not save ourselves. Our lives are a gift and everything we do in the state of grace remaining in the Father’s love glorifies Him.
Jesus teaches us today that one of the best ways we can glorify God is to be like Jesus and serve others. I have selfish thoughts everyday. I am very competitive and want to win everything. It is hard for me to swallow my pride and forgive or ask for forgiveness.
I like to be in control! Sound familiar! Do an experiment today. Do nothing that you want and just do what everybody else wants to do (serve) and do it with a joyful Spirit (First, we must stop what we are doing and spend time with others). Then, you will be one step closer to understanding what Christ did for us on the cross.
Today’s challenge: Find areas of your life where you are prideful and become more of a servant in those areas. Remind yourself of who Jesus is (gave His life as a ransom for many) and who we are (sinners). This should bring our pride down a bit.
Be a servant, be a saint today!
