“THE BREAD THAT I WILL GIVE IS MY FLESH FOR THE LIFE OF THE WORLD.” JN 6:51

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Prayer Prompt before reading JN 6:44-51: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and Son are so that I may know who I am.

God is found in communion. God is love and we are a result of His overflowing love. We are a result of love and we are created for love. Love wills the good of the other and does something about it. God is love and ALWAYS wills our good, so God is always full of joy.

Adam and Eve broke this love by not trusting and we inherited this loss of holiness, so God set out to reconcile Himself with His creation. He does this through a sacrificial meal. The Old Testament sacrificial meal comes to us at Passover.

God instructed Moses and the people to eat bitter herbs (to remind them of their bitter slavery) and unleavened bread (they were in a hurry to get away so they did not have time to let the bread rise), and a roasted lamb (daubed the blood on the doorposts so the angel of death would pass over their homes). God later feeds them with manna in the desert.

The new sacrificial meal or new Passover is Jesus Christ in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Isaiah prophesies that “He will be like a sheep led to slaughter.” Today, Jesus teaches us He is the bread of life and we must eat His Flesh to have eternal life. Jesus has made a host for us everyday.

Go to Mass as often as possible and be in full communion with God. This is the way God has chosen to give Himself to us from the Last Supper until He returns. Most importantly, as Bishop Barron puts it, “Jesus just wants to be our friend. He wants to set around the supper table and have a great conversation.” The supper table is the altar, God calls all of us together to it each Sunday, and Jesus feeds our souls for the journey. Thank you, Jesus!

Today’s challenge: Allow Jesus to be your friend! Talk to Him every day about everything. There is nothing more that He wants than to be your best friend. How do you develop a friendship? Spend time with them. Find a place to make a habit of spending time talking to Jesus and learning about Him in the Scriptures. Read one of the 4 Gospels all of the way through. It will only take a few minutes each day of your time and it might be the biggest conversion experience you will ever have.
