Prayer Prompt before reading MT 18:24-26: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and Son are so that I may know who I am.
We often hear Emmanuel during Christmas, which means “God with us”. God has never left us. He knew us before we were born. “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.” Isaiah 49:15 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5
God sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world to reconcile us with Himself. Jesus then consecrates the bread and wine at the Last Supper and institutes the Eucharist. Jesus Christ is still with us Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity which we receive at every Mass. This is truly amazing! Jesus still sacrifices by staying hidden behind bread and wine, humbly, so we can approach Him and receive Him as spiritual food for our journey to holiness. He makes Himself so small, He allows Himself to be held between a priest’s two fingers.
God is so humble. Then, Jesus breathes the Holy Spirit on the Apostles. At baptism, we receive the same Holy Spirit as St. Francis and Pope Francis, as the Apostles, and all baptized individuals. Jesus’s Spirit lives within us. Amazing! We can sit in silence and listen to Christ in our hearts. Jesus is alive! He is not dead!
He is present with us right here and now! We can listen to Christ in the Scriptures as His Words are “living and effective”. Finally, we learn in today’s Gospel, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Jesus lives on with us in prayer. Grab your friends, family, co-workers and start praying together. It is powerful. At St. Francis, we are known as the prayer warriors!!!
Today’s challenge: Take time to recognize God in everything around you and every person you come in contact with. He is everywhere and always waiting for you to talk to Him/spend time with Him.
Be a servant, be a saint today!
