“WHY ARE YOU DOING WHAT IS UNLAWFUL ON THE SABBATH?” LK 6:1-5
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Prayer Prompt before reading LK 6:1-5: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and God the Son are so that I may know who I am.
Today, Jesus teaches us that eating to satisfy hunger on the sabbath is not unlawful. The Pharisees are caught up in the laws which are causing them to be blind to the fact that, “The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath”. God is right in front of their eyes and they are worried about following laws perfectly.
I, too, can get caught up in following rules or laws, saying memorized prayers, and going to Church because I have to in my faith. Jesus wants our heart and He wants us to bring it into our worship for Him. He desires a relationship, a friendship with us. He died to get to know us, the good, bad, and ugly.
Sometimes I get caught up more in my sin than seeking out places in my life where I can help others. I worry that I didn’t get my memorized prayers in some days (me talking) instead of taking time to sit in an empty Church, Adoration chapel or the quiet of my home and listen (God talking). It is also important to remember that Catholics are not required to follow any government law that causes them to sin or go against their faith.
Today’s challenge: Take time each day to listen instead of doing all of the talking. Don’t let following the laws and rules of the faith overshadow the heart of our faith which is Christ’s most Sacred Heart full of love and mercy for others.
Be a servant, be a saint today!
