BLESSED INDEED WILL YOU BE BECAUSE OF THEIR INABILITY TO REPAY YOU. FOR YOU WILL BE REPAID AT THE RESURRECTION OF THE RIGHTEOUS.” LK 14:12-14
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Jesus continues to teach us how to be humble. C.S. Lewis says, “True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.”
Catholic Encyclopedia states that the virtue of humility is, ““A quality by which a person considering his own defects has a lowly opinion of himself and willingly submits himself to God and to others for God’s sake.” Humility can also be recognizing who God is and who we are and putting each role into proper perspective. God is big and we are small, we need Him. Jesus uses the example to invite guests who cannot repay us.
How many times I have done things for someone expecting something in return. I did this for you, you need to do something in return. I think of the earlier years of my marriage. It was such a competition between two very competitive people. We wanted everything to be equal.
Today, with 5 children, school work, sports practices, and work we have learned there is no equal, just work together, compromise, put the needs of the children first, and don’t complain but recognize the blessings in our lives. Through the vocation of marriage, God has taught us sacrificial love and unselfishness; Christ’s love on the cross for us, agape love, true love.
One of the best ways to practice humility is by serving. Each time you enter a room see if there is someone who needs help. Each person you meet in each room of your house, ask them if you can help them with anything. At school, enter each classroom asking others if they need help with anything and take time to sit with those who do not have someone to sit with.
Think of others before yourself and you will grow in the virtue of humility, but never under any circumstances allow anyone to put you down. You are a child of God and a brother or sister of Christ, that is amazing and you have great worth and value. You matter! You complete God’s puzzle to be a saint during this time and place in His plan. Recognize the gifts He has given you and share them with others to glorify God and He will repay you with eternal life!
Today’s challenge: Be humble, do not boast or brag, make Jesus the center of your life, recognize you need God, but realize you matter and have a purpose fashioned in God’s image and likeness.
Be a servant, be a saint today!
