Prayer Prompt before reading JN 19:25-27: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.

Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows

OUR LADY OF SORROWS, PRAY FOR US!

Humbly submit your will to God and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Mary and the most chaste and just heart of St. Joseph.

Today, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows.  The most difficult cross to bear (I have heard and not experienced) is a parent who loses a son or daughter before they enter eternal life themselves.  Mary experienced this great tragedy.  We sometimes think since she is sinless, she did not have a hard life or suffer.

Today, we are reminded that she experienced sorrow harder than any of us.  Brant Pitre explains in his book “Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary” that Mary’s labor pains did not come at birth, but at the cross. The 7 sorrows she experienced are: 1. The Presentation in the Temple, 2. The Flight into Egypt, 3. The Loss of Jesus for 3 days, 4. The Way to Calvary, 5. The Crucifixion, 6. The Descent from the Cross, 7. The Burial of Jesus.

I have included a link to join your sorrows with Mary anytime you feel your cross is too heavy to bear in this life.  God knows our hearts and our suffering and gave us perfect models, Jesus and Mary.  Don’t suffer alone and remember this may be the way you may be called to perfection by God like His Son Jesus.  When you become a saint, the rewards of suffering are eternal!

Today’s challenge: Pray the Chaplet of the The Seven Dolors of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Be a servant, be a saint today!
