Today, begins a special season in the Church calendar when we prepare ourselves for the Paschal Mystery-Jesus’ Passion, Death, and Resurrection. During this 40 days of preparation, may we keep our eyes fixed on the resurrection, for we are currently living in the end times waiting for His return. The 40 days of Lent represent the Israelites in the desert in the OT and Jesus in the desert in the NT. While Jesus was in the desert being tempted He gives us valuable tools to fight the Devil which we need in Lent and every day of our lives: Scripture (take time each day to reflect on the Truth in a world that lies to you constantly), Fasting-if you can’t give up pop or sweets for 40 days how will you ever fight a sinful habit, Prayer-absolutely necessary to gain eternal life and starts with humility, recognizing you need Him because you are weak and a sinner, and last total abandonment and trust in God-simply having faith.
Today, ask God what He wants you to do this Lent to change and grow closer to Him. He will tell you what is keeping you from Him. Then, you will have the greatest Lent you have ever had! Start in prayer, be humble, ask God for help, and be ready to fight!
