“DO NOT BE AFRAID; FROM NOW ON YOU WILL BE CATCHING MEN.” LK 5:1-11
Humbly submit your will to God (thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Prayer Prompt before reading LK 5:1-11: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and God the Son are so that I may know who I am.
Today, Jesus calls his disciples to follow Him. This will require change in their lives. Peter was married. They had a full time job as fisherman and the others had other trades. Today, in this Scripture passage, Jesus is calling you to follow Him. If you have any thoughts of becoming a priest or religious brother or sister, start praying daily asking God if this is your vocation.
Ask Him if you are to be married and start praying for your future spouse. We are all called to be followers of Jesus, disciples. You have a choice to make; God’s grace is waiting to be given to you everyday. He is chasing after you to bring you back to Him.
Today, Jesus may be asking you to give some things up to follow Him, but they are nothing compared to the joy and peace you will receive by giving your heart to Jesus. There will be sorrow and sacrifice, too. Just ask Mary, His mother. Love requires sacrifice and unselfishness. It requires swallowing one’s pride. Peter Kreeft says, “There are only two types of people on judgment day, my will be done or thy will be done”. Jesus does not care where you are at in your spiritual life, today He is calling you to follow Him. “Be not afraid!”
Today’s challenge: Don’t worry about how much of a sinner you are, allow Jesus into your heart. He will slowly transform you. ”Be not afraid!”
Be a servant, be a saint today!
#Christian YOLO
Today Peter is called to to be a fisher of men. originally he fished fish, put he fishes men for God. he had to put every thing beside him for his new job just like us
Jesus calls his disciples to follow Him was something that stood out to me because Jesus also calls us to follow him like his disciples and one way we can do that is to spread the gospel out to others so they can be Jesus disciples
When Jesus says that He will make them fishers of men, I think He is trying to tell them that they will help other people follow God. He convinced them to follow him when he told them to put down the nets again.
In today’s scripture reflection, Jesus is calling us to follow him. Not just that, to lead other people to the way of the Lord. Jesus is the Messiah. The Almighty. The Ever living Son of the Father. We are called to seek Jesus and spread the Word of the Lord.
I think that God Is trying to tell me that we need to think before we act and we need to think if what we are doing is good for God and if it will hurt people and if it will then we need to not do that thing.
Humbly submit your will to God (thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph. Today, Jesus may be asking you to give some things up to follow Him, but they are nothing compared to the joy and peace you will receive by giving your heart to Jesus. There will be sorrow and sacrifice, too. Peter Kreeft says, “There are only two types of people on judgment day, my will be done or thy will be done”. Jesus does not care where you are at in your spiritual life, today He is calling you to follow Him. “Be not afraid!”
In todays gospel the Lord teaches to the people to believe in him for he is the son of God. Jesus did a miracle to prove he was real son of God.
“DO NOT BE AFRAID; FROM NOW ON YOU WILL BE CATCHING MEN.” In this it tells us to be fishers of men which means that we need to follow God and want to be close to Him. In the Gospel it Said that the fishermen dropped everything they were doing and followed God. In it they also say From now on you will be catching men which means that they are going to get other people to follow God. To follow God we have to go through a change in our lives, like peter and to do that we have to pray to God to guide us through life.
Peter in the gospel is coming back from fishing all night. They had caught nothing. They were cleaning their nets when Jesus asked if he could get on their boat so that he might be able to teach to the crowd. They got Jesus on the boat, then set out a little from shore. Jesus taught the crowd, then said to Simon Peter, “Cast out your nets over the right side of the boat.” Peter said, “Lord, we have been fishing all night and have caught nothing, but at your command, I will cast the nets over the side of the boat.” He did so, and the nets were filled with so many fish that they were tearing. Jesus asked Peter to join him, and from that moment on, Peter did so. We all have troubles in our life and priorities. Peter’s was fishing. He needed to fish so he could put food on the table for his family. But like Peter, we need to listen to Christ and follow him, for only in doing that can we truly be the best we can be.
“Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing,
but at your command I will lower the nets.”
When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish
and their nets were tearing.
The fishermen were catching nothing for hours and were going to give up.Christ then came and said lower them again and even with the fishermen failing over and over they still listened to Jesus’s command and ended up with so many fish the net was tearing. If we feel like giving up God will be there he will help us, we just need a little hope and need to listen to what God tells us and believe in him.
Do not be afraid, the scripture is telling me that i should not be scared of listening and following Jesus. It is showing me that he will protect me from the devil and he will come to show me the way of him so i can follow the path God has set for me
Today’s gospel is about how we need to allow Jesus in our hearts even if we are sinners. In the gospel Peter says “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man” this shows how we despite being sinners who don’t deserve God’s mercy we still get in and we need to open our hearts to God.
‘today He is calling you to follow Him. Be not afraid!” Today Jesus is telling me that you shouldn’t be afraid in following His footsteps, there for your following the highest of all. You should be delighted and filled with joy that He, our God is wanting you to follow Him. He doesn’t want you to take steps with the devil, He wants the best for you, so follow Him and spread the word of the gospel. God will always be there for you and for all. He loves you more than anything, so take the bible and go read it for God is good. He wants us to be happy and not filled with sadness and depression, so go follow in his steps and He will lead you to heaven to spend eternal life with Him.
Today Jesus Is calling us to follow him. He wants to be friends with him. To get the best relationship with God you need to pray everyday. Jesus does not care what we have done he will love us. God has a plan for us that we need to carry out, helping people who are less fortunate than us is one of the many things God has called us to do.
This is a story that can apply to our day to day lives. When we do our Job and get nothing out of it we loose faith on God because he is not letting us have a good day. God will turn the evil into good, just like the assassination attempt of John Paul the second. Will we listen to the lords calling for vocation or what we are supposed to do like preach in the darkest places with no faith and preach on the rooftops. When Simon Peter cast out his net when he was told to a huge smile came up on his face, because something good happened. God doesn’t simply give you a good day, he lets you turn the day to good. Whether you talk to someone or you get something done. God doesn’t care which job you have and what. He wants the Job that he designed for us. Our skills apply to our job, there was a quote said and it is whoever does a dream job from God will be rich in heart and in faith. When we sin God takes it away on the cross, he is a beautiful and loving God when can we see that. Our job is to be evangelists like Peter is supposed to be, bring people back to the church so they can see God’s Love.
Something that I got out of this was that if we have faith in Jesus then we can do anything. One of the most popular bible verses there is, Philippians 4:13, which says “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.” We have to believe that if we say something in Jesus’ name then it will happen, in the gospel of Matthew it says,”Even if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, mountains will move in Jesus name, and you will part the seas.” So the thing that I got out of this was that if we believe in Jesus Christ then we can do anything
In the Gospel today Peter is fishing with some others and Jesus is preaching on the shore. Jesus then tells them to cast their nets out but Peter doesn’t believe anything will happen since they were fishing all night and had caught nothing. They cast out their nets anyway and are surprised when they pull up many fish. It was a miracle. Then Peter believes that Jesus is the Messiah and he follows Him. We should follow God and believe in him. God wants us to be with Him so much that he came down from heaven as a human and preached to all of us and even died on the cross for our sins. He also opened the gates of heaven so that we could have eternal life with Him.
In todays Gospel Jesus is trying to say that anything ever imaginable is possible with the power of God. Even though they had caught anything yet Jesus tells them to throw their nets and they catch lots of fish.
Something I think that is good about this is Simon’s loyalty he listened he thought that they wouldn’t catch anything because they had been fishing all day and night. Even with that they still lowered their nets and behold that they caught a lot of fish. This relates to us because we could be struggling with something in our life. If we take 5 minutes to just listen to God in silence then things in our life could get a lot better. Then Simon Peter goes to Jesus and gets on his knees and says “depart from me , Lord, for I am a sinful man”. This relates to us a lot because people fall away from the church because they think they are not good enough for god. This leads to people not going to mass or confession because they have not gone in a long time. Just because we may have fallen away from him temporarily doesn’t mean that we can’t ever go back to him. Then Jesus says don’t be afraid you will be catchers of men. I think this means that they will be the ones to bring people to Christ. We should try to be like Jesus but we are human. So I think God wants us to be like the disciples in the way that they brought people to life.
Today in the gospel Jesus is always willing to give us grace. He loves us so much and he never wants us to be in pain. I think it’s telling us to really trust God and give him our whole lives.
“There are only two types of people on judgment day, my will be done or thy will be done”. in this scripture its saying that there are two types of people on judgement day like you are either prepared or not. You either are ready and want to go to heaven or your a sinner and dont know what your he wants you tofollow him .
Don’t let anyone make you believe that the faith is bad. They listened to Jesus and put the fish nets down when they haven’t caught anything all day and when they put the fish nets down they caught a lot of fish. So the teaching just listen to people and it might help you
“You have a choice to make; God’s grace is waiting to be given to you everyday. He is chasing after you to bring you back to Him.” I feel like this is really important becuase god what us to believe and loves us so much and cares for so so much. God just wants us to care and believe and he wants you to love him and pray to show that you really love and care for him. so give your self to him.
Jesus is telling me to not be afrad of God and to alow him to go in to your haert
In today’s gospel the Lord teaches the people to believe . Jesus did a miracle to prove he was real son of God.
I think that anything is possible with God and you should always listen to Him.
I think it is showing us that in Gods name anything is possible. If you beleive in yourself and the holy trinity and truly know God loves you then through God anything can happen.
I think that in this scripture its saying that you should always be ready for judgement day meaning, always repent and praise God.
Today Jesus is telling me that even though you may want to give us just have faith. Like we do in God and Jesus . Also that when you what to give up just pray and God shall answer you. You could see this in your life when you cant seem to get something like homework or trying to solve any problem.
Jesus says to not be afraid, he loves us all and wants to help us get to heaven. It doesn’t matter if you are close with Jesus or not he wants to know you and loves you.
I can apply this to my life by letting Jesus lead, because when we listen to Jesus and follow him great things can happen. We should follow him in good and bad times because he can help us during any time. Also once we follow Jesus we should show others to his wondrous love.
Today’s Gospel can apply to our day to day lives when it says that he will make us fishers of men like he will make us his disciples and follow the right things.
Jeus is calling us to be more like him and folow him in the gospel he said Do not be afraid he wants us to share his word, and to not be afraid of talking of him.
I think God is trying to tell us to fish for his love and make other people believers of him instead of fishing for popularity and material goods.
In todays scripture and gospel we were told that if you believe and worship our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ good things will be gifted .also we are told to humbly submit our will to God
What I got was, allow Jesus into my heart whenever I want/need his gory and thanks and let him leave when he wants!.!.
Today’s gospel is telling you to follow Jesus and if you don’t there will be sorrow and sacrifice.
The thought of Jesus telling them to cast their net on the right side was confusing them but when they pulled it up-or at least tried to-they found fish. I think of this scripture is teaching us that with God all things are possible and because of that it makes me think to never say that something isn’t possible because with God ALL things are possible
Jesus calls us to follow him by giving things up for him. It also says the joy and peace he will give us is way, way more better than anything we have. It says he will slowly transform us.”Be not afraid!”
“Don’t be afraid, for now I will make fishers of men.” When they brought their boats to the shore,
they left everything and followed him.
I think that today’s gospel is saying that no matter what we think or what we say, we should always listen to God because he knows what is truly best for us.
“DO NOT BE AFRAID; FROM NOW ON YOU WILL BE CATCHING MEN.” What that means to me is that we need to bring others to the church and tell them the good news about the Lord.
This is telling us to always listen to Jesus and to never doubt because even if you think you shouldn’t, God is always doing whats right for you.
I think what Jesus is trying to say is anything ever imaginable is possible with the power of God.
I think that the gospel reading for today is trying to tell us to give up what we are doing and to follow God. Wherever we don’t stop for God, it allows us to sign and takes us further away from Jesus. We need to be like the apostles and stop to follow Jesus.
I think what God is trying to tell us into today’s gospel is that we need to always have faith in the Lord and never doubt him and always listen to him.
Be not afraid, I think that Jesus was trying to tell me that with God everything is possible and God will be with us helping.
“He is chasing after you to bring it back to him” that stood out to be and I also think God is telling us to not be afraid and how He will always have everyone’s back and then “Be not afraid” that’s Him telling us not to be afraid.
Be not afraid, I think that Jesus was trying to tell me that with God everything is possible and God will be with us helping.
The Gospel today means to me that you should always believe in Jesus’ plan and what he says. Even though they thought that they weren’t going to catch anything they still lowered the nets. They still listened to Jesus even though they had been fishing all day. And they caught a ton of fish.
I think when Simon said “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man he felt bad because he sinned a lot to where he thought he didn’t deserve what happened.
What I got from this gospel is allow Jesus into your life and lift up all your needs to God and he will prevail. And when Peter knelt Jesus told them not to be afraid It reminded me of the verse; “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”(Philippians 4:13). Im not so sure why but it came to my brain.
I think God is telling us even if we have already done something to open our hearts to him, we must listen to him anyways and follow his will.
This is one of my favorite gospels because it teaches us to trust in God no matter Trust him with your brain, soul, and heart. I like how Simon dropped to his knees and said depart from me lord for i am a sinful man. So dont worry God has your back.
so dont worry.
That I need to listen to God.
People had doubt that Jesus was the son of God So Jesus preformed a miracle to prove to them. Everyone has ups and downs in their faith but you always need to believe because that is what faith is.
What todays gospel told me was that we shouldnt be afraid of out lord and instead help and guide others into the catholic faith
I think God was trying to tell me that He has called me to be a Fisher for Him. I must help God “catch” people and bring them back to Him and the Church. God can take us to a whole new level if we let him, if we become fishers like Peter.
In the Gospel Jesus is calling me to not only just be a follower of him but to also tell other people about him and tell them that together we will all be saved as long as we stick to to the Catholic way of life.
God is telling me from the Gospel, that if you try and try, he will help and guide you through your problems. Just how Peter and the fishermen had tried and tried to catch fish, they couldn’t, and God helped them get through that problem.
I think how this relates to me is I need to put down elctronics and make time for God.
In the scripture it is telling us that we are all called to do something like Peter was called to be a fisherman. Jesus calls us to multiple different things like priesthood religious life marriage or single life. But we are all called to be something by Jesus.
“Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” This stuck out to me because when Jesus first said this to Simon Peter, he did not know what it meant. I think that this happens in our daily lives. Something will happen that we may not understand, or like, but God has a purpose for everything. He might speak to us in hidden ways and we just have to keep an open heart.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” We often think like this whenever we commit a sin that we think is big. We need to remember what Father Garrett said this morning, “Jesus loves us”
Jesus is trying to tell us that God’s grace is waiting for us. He wants to bring us back to Him. God might want us to give up something to follow him. Paul gave up some he loved and followed God.
“Today, Jesus may be asking you to give some things up to follow Him, but they are nothing compared to the joy and peace you will receive” this line really really stuck out to me because i personally hold on to many things that don’t lead me towards God or lead me away from him. Especially my phone or bad friends i know i shouldn’t be around. But i am working everyday to try and fix that because i know God has a plan for me, and to be able to do that i need to give him my full and undivided attention.
I am really proud that you recognize your phone and friends as something you may have to change to draw closer to God and be who He wants you to be! I am praying for you!
In today’s Gospel, Jesus told Simon to release the nets one more time. Even after the Apostle had caught nothing for the past day. They released the fishing nets because they trusted in Jesus. “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” I like this quote because we think that we don’t deserve Jesus because we are sinners, but Jesus still loves us even when we are sinners.
Jesus is showing us in this Gospel if we follow him good will happen to us. Even though they had been fishing all night, when Jesus told them to cast their nets they listened and got fish so bountiful that even with another boat they were still about to sink. Peter was then called after listening to Jesus just as we will be called to follow him.
God is telling us to listen to him he has good things for you and he has your life planned out
Jesus tells Simon today that he will be a fisher of men. this symbolizes that he will bring men into the faith and we must be like them we must bring people into the faith
In today’s gospel I think it is telling us we need to always have faith in Jesus and never leave him
Jesus calls his disciples to follow Him. This will require change in their lives. Peter was married. They had a full time job as fisherman and the others had other trades. You can make your self some time to pray to God every day.
In today’s scripture Jesus calls us to follow him. When he calls us we must drop everything and go follow the Lord our savior. For example we can give up and hour of video games and instead we can go to adoration or pray at home and praise the Lord.
What I got from the Gospel, is that Jesus is telling us to keep trying no matter what. when we keep trying over and over again Jesus will help us out in the end.
In today’s scripture reflection Jesus is trying and always willing to give us graces. We should’t be afraid of the Lord but we should be willing to understand him and help others to.
“Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.” This stuck out to me because even though they had worked for hours and were tired they still did what God asked. This is what we need to do even though they were tired and hopeless they still did what Jesus asked.
This gospel reminds me of an episode from the Chosen when Jesus tells them to do exactly what happened in this gospel. The episode was really impactful for me because in the scene, after Simon Peter said “Lord depart from me for I am a sinful man.” Jesus knelt down to Simon Peter and placed his hand on him. I loved that scene because Jesus lowered himself to Simon Peter’s level which to me said that Jesus will meet you where you are and he never turns away from you.
Today’s gospel tells us to trust in Jesus and to follow Him. If Jesus wants us to become a priest, we need to ask him if this is what He really wants us to be. If you’re becoming married, we need to pray for our spouse and thank God. All of this is leading up to the gates of Heaven where we will be judged to have eternal life or not. We must follow Him.
I think God is saying we shouldn’t be afraid because he will help us always. Like the one time he helped the fishermen catch fish. they were sad that they weren’t catching anything but then they believed Jesus and caught a lot of fish. If we are ever sad just ask Gof=d for help and we will get help.
I think Jesus is teaching us to never give up. Even if you have lost hundreds and hundreds of times don’t give up. Keep moving forward and eventually you will succeed.
Simon said in reply, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.”
I think in this verse it shows that even though Simon had been trying to catch fish for a while, and still hadn’t caught anything, he was wiiling to trying again because Jesus had told him to. This shows Simon was willing to trust in Jesus’s plan, instead of just doing what HE wanted to do.
In today’s scripture reflection Jesus calls us to follow him. He calls us to follow him just like his disciples followed him. I think the scripture is also about how we should listen to Jesus.
The scripture is telling me to drop everything and follow God because nothing else will matter on judgement day.
What I got from todays gospel comes from the line “Do not be afraid, for now on you shall be catching men.” Jesus is saying that from then on, we are supposed to be preaching and bringing people to our faith. Simon Peter, at the sight of the fish told Jesus to depart from him because Simon doubted him slightly in the beginning, showing his humility and setting an example for us.
“From now on you will be catching men.” This stuck out to me today. Jesus told Simon what he is to do with his life. If we listen to God and make time for Him and have faith He too will tell us our vocation. We can’t just do what we want with our lives because that might not be what God has planned for us. So, we have to start praying to know and serve our vocation that God has called us to. God will come to us and tell us if we are open and accepting to hear it.
Simon Peter had been fishing all night and had caught virtually nothing, but when Jesus told him to cast his net on the other side of the boat he did. He was doubtful at first but he obeyed Jesus even though he didn’t think it would work. It is okay to be unsure but we must listen to God. We don’t know his plans for us; but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any. That is why it is so important that we do his will.
The Gospel today is one of my favorites, because it shows how Faith in Jesus can change everything. “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.” and after they listened to Him, they brought up so many fish that both boats were in danger of sinking and the nets were tearing! Faith in Jesus can really change everything, he’s just waiting for you to answer and “lower your net”. And then after Jesus works wonders in our lives, or even before that, we are called to drop everything and follow Him.
Simon Peter doubted Jesus could do anything to help them but he did it any way and boy was he wrong and Jesus invited them to follow him and catch men not fish.
I think the Gospel is trying to tell us that to do what is right (following Jesus) we must sacrifice things that is bad. For example if you play games 24/7 then you would have lower your screen time. Some thing (like gaming) you don’t have to quit but stop doing it so often.
God is telling us that we can trust him and that we should always listen to what he is saying. God is good and his advice is best. 🙂
What I get from today´s scripture is we will have to let go of some things to get closer to God. We let things get in the way of our relationship with God and we need to learn to put them to the side. For us to get closer to God we must control ourselves from worldly things.
What I got from the reflection is that no matter what, Jesus will be there for us. He wants us to depend on him so that we can rely on Him for not only the little things in life but the big things as well. He wants us to be comfortable letting everything go and following Him. He wants us to know that we are safe in the hands of God in all that we do. That’s what stuck out to me reading this.
I think Jesus is telling me that I should trust in him and always to try my best to listen to his word, I really like this Gospel because I think it has a lot of meaning to it.
God was calling to me in the Gosple today when it was talking about how Jesus told Simon/Peter that he will now be catchers of men.
what I think Jesus I telling me is that I need to try harder to give things up and try to get closer to him.
I think that Jesus was telling Peter that Peter would preach the Gospel to a lot of people.
Never underestimate the way Jesus can help you ever.
What God is telling us here is that you must sacrifice some things to get closer to God, such as bad habits or things that make us keep sinning. When we still fail, God is still with us and we trust in him, so we try again, still keeping our hope and faith.
The gospel today is telling me no matter how hard you try and even if you get nowhere after trying hard. Jesus has a plan for you and he wouldn’t give you hard things if he thought you couldn’t handle them.
I think that the fish represents joy and happieness and that if we listen to God without hesitation we will be joyful
in the gospel today I think Jesus is that he can always help us when we are in need the only thing we need to do is turn to him and If we turn to him he will help us.
ccc
God is calling us to always have faith in him and trust him. And if u follow him he will forgive you for all the wrongs you did. Jesus is also calling us to spread the gospel and to not doubt him because he is the truth.
I think that Jesus was telling Peter that Peter would preach the Gospel to a lot of people. Also, that Peter would carry on Jesus’s word.
I got from this scripture that we should keep trying no matter how many times we fail because is within us.
God is telling me not to be afraid.
God Is telling us we need to trust him in difficult times.
What I got from this scripture is that we need to allow God into our life because he will always bring us to the right places we belong to.
I think God is trying to tell me to drop everything and follow God because none of this will matter later on.
I believe it is telling me to always love him and to be kind to others and to always think before you act because there many things that can happen and we should always love God and follow him. NO MATTER WHAT!!!
anything is possible with God and every time you fail you keep on trying and eventually you will succeed
God is the way to make everything possible
Today Jesus Is calling us to follow him. He wants to be friends with him. To get the best relationship with God you need to pray everyday. What I got from this scripture is that we need to allow God into our life because he will always bring us to the right places we belong to.he will help and guide you through your problems. Just how Peter and the fishermen had tried and tried to catch fish, they couldn’t, and God helped them get through that problem.
I think today’s gospel is telling us to truly trust God and give him our everything. God is trying to tell us to not be afraid and that he will watch and protect us. We are under God’s power and should truly trust him with everything we have. He might speak to us in hidden ways and we just have to keep a clean and open heart as well as mind.
Jesus tells us to follow and praise him. Always listen to him.
I feel like today’s gospel is talking about following Jesus’ way and believing in him even when you feel like you don’t want to even through tough times or obstacles in life.
“Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Simon said in reply, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.” When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing. I think this means that Jesus can do anything. They had tried all night for fish, but couldn’t catch any but when Jesus said to do it there where lots of fish, This means we need to put our faith in Jesus.
I think Jesus is telling us that he has a plan for everything in life. Like how Moses didn’t remove the red sea, he parted it so Jesus wont always remove your problems but will help you get through them.
I think Jesus is telling me that I don’t have to worry about being a sinner. I need to follow Jesus, my Lord!
¨Jesus is calling you to follow him.¨ I think Jesus is telling me too always follow and trust him even when things are hard.
