“SO FROM THAT DAY ON THEY PLANNED TO KILL HIM.” JN 11:45-56

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Many of the Jews who had come to Mary
and seen what Jesus had done began to believe in him.
But some of them went to the Pharisees
and told them what Jesus had done.
So the chief priests and the Pharisees
convened the Sanhedrin and said,
“What are we going to do?
This man is performing many signs.
If we leave him alone, all will believe in him,
and the Romans will come
and take away both our land and our nation.”
But one of them, Caiaphas,
who was high priest that year, said to them,
“You know nothing,
nor do you consider that it is better for you
that one man should die instead of the people,
so that the whole nation may not perish.”
He did not say this on his own,
but since he was high priest for that year,
he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation,
and not only for the nation,
but also to gather into one the dispersed children of God.
So from that day on they planned to kill him.

So Jesus no longer walked about in public among the Jews,
but he left for the region near the desert,
to a town called Ephraim,
and there he remained with his disciples.

Now the Passover of the Jews was near,
and many went up from the country to Jerusalem
before Passover to purify themselves.
They looked for Jesus and said to one another
as they were in the temple area, “What do you think?
That he will not come to the feast?” JN 11:45-56

Today, after raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus is being plotted against by some of the Pharisees and high priests of the Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin is the highest Jewish court and it had the power to put people to death. Jesus has openly proclaimed that He is God in the last 3 days. This is blasphemy or Truth. We are called to make a decision after wrestling with God on life’s most important decisions, beliefs, and questions.

In light of all of the news on the Internet and news services across the country and the world with the pandemic the last few years, what research and facts are true and which ones are false? Today’s Gospel reveals that our fallen human nature plots against those who we believe have started the conflict (Jews against Jesus). A pandemic is a different beast. It is a virus and not a person, but it could have been started by a person.

What is interesting to me is when I don’t get what I want who do I blame? Myself or others. After watching the news and reading about the latest statistics of the virus, do we blame and criticize or do we get to work on finding a way to help. Jesus reveals the Father’s heart today. He stands firm with love, forgiveness, and on the side of the victim. He is a team player. One God, Father of the entire human race, a family, chosen.

We are here to do what is best for the common good of all. This is a difficult task, we need God’s grace to dwell among us and help us. Jesus has nothing to do with those who plot and blame or even put to death those who create conflict in their lives. Don’t get me wrong if a person is putting other lives at risk, justice must be served. Jesus is innocent, but causes division.

There is only one Truth, one God. We have to choose Jesus or what the world says will make us happy. Take some time in silence today to think about how you handle conflict and people that create conflict in your life. God the Father gives us some great advice today, listen to Him.

Today’s challenge: Seek the Truth, don’t let your Bible (your beliefs) be formed by social media and the news, invite Jesus into your suffering

Be a servant, become a saint!
