“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them
will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.
The rain fell, the floods came,
and the winds blew and buffeted the house.
But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock.
And everyone who listens to these words of mine
but does not act on them
will be like a fool who built his house on sand.
The rain fell, the floods came,
and the winds blew and buffeted the house.
And it collapsed and was completely ruined.”

When Jesus finished these words,
the crowds were astonished at his teaching,
for he taught them as one having authority,
and not as their scribes.  Mt 7:21-29

Jesus teaches us the power of His words and our duty to act on them as baptized people.  We must strive to read the Scriptures daily and reflect on them so we know what the will of God is.  If we do, we will be like the wise man with a solid foundation, if not we arleady have felt the consequences in sin, anxiety, depression, hopelessness, fear, and dispair.  God does not condemn us, He teaches us, loves and forgives us.  We determine our own outcome with our choices: solid rock (open to God’s grace and doing what is right) or slippery sand.
Jesus taught as one having authority proves to us that He is God.  The crowds were astonished and we will be too if we choose to take on the challenge of really loving.  It will cause us much suffering and trials, but the rewards are eternal.  We will be overwhelmingly tempted because the devil hates God and those who try to love Him.

Today’s challenge:  Choose to be a warrior and love.  It will take much prayer, fasting, and sacrifice.  This will all look like a small cold compared to the glory of being in heaven.  Solid rock will be hard and sand will be easy, today choose the hard and enjoy the reward of becoming spiritually stronger.
