“HIS MOTHER KEPT ALL THESE THINGS IN HER HEART.” LK 2:41-52

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Saturdays and the Immaculate Heart of Mary
by Kathryn Mulderink

“I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me.”

Most of us are familiar with these words of our Blessed Mother, spoken to Lucia, one of the three young visionaries of Fátima, at her convent in Pontevedra, Spain. This message, given in 1925, was a sort of “follow-up” to the words Our Lady had spoken to Lucia in the second apparition of Fátima in June, 1917, when she told Lucia that she was to remain in the world because “Jesus wishes to use you to make me known and loved. He wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart.”

It may come as some surprise that this devotion requested by Heaven was not absolutely new. It fit precisely into the long tradition of Catholic piety that, having devoted Fridays to the remembrance of the Passion of Jesus Christ and to honoring His Sacred Heart, found it very natural to devote Saturdays to His Most Holy Mother.

In fact, the great request of Pontevedra appears as the joyous culmination of a whole movement of devotion. It began spontaneously, was encouraged and codified by Rome, and seems to be nothing less than the providential preparation for what was to come later.

Take time today to ponder the importance of Mary’s role in our salvation. She appeared to the 3 Fatima children with great instruction for the reparation of sinners. It is only fitting that we follow the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Again, I repeat, God used Mary as the instrument to bring His Son into the world, she is the most perfect instrument for us to return to God and draw closer to Jesus. Most importantly, Mary gave herself completely to God. When her heart ached for Jesus in her 7 Sorrows, she knew God’s will was to let Him go. He had a mission.

Bishop Barron says we learn something special today about God and family, “mission for God supersedes family”. Many parents struggle giving their sons or daughters to God. Mary suffered with her Son to the end, we too are called to suffer with Jesus. Our sins are the ones that made Him suffer.

Many people do not try to repair their sins, we can pray for them too. This is the message of Fatima. Again, love and mercy are the center of Christ and Mary’s heart, that is why they are Sacred and Immaculate. Ask God for the grace to work toward these amazing hearts so that others can see their hearts in us.  In doing so, may we support each other in our families to grow in holiness, have the courage to answer the call of our vocation, and fulfill the mission God made us for, holiness.

Today’s challenge: Visit the IHM website and start praying for their cause. Visit the convent. Put a rosary on your pillow or devote yourself to one Marian devotion. The consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary by St. Louis de Montfort is known as the quickest way to heaven. Renew it every year and say a daily consecration prayer.
