Humbly submit your will to God (thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

On a sabbath Jesus went to dine
at the home of one of the leading Pharisees,
and the people there were observing him carefully.

He told a parable to those who had been invited,
noticing how they were choosing the places of honor at the table.
“When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet,
do not recline at table in the place of honor.
A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him,
and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say,
‘Give your place to this man,’
and then you would proceed with embarrassment
to take the lowest place.
Rather, when you are invited,
go and take the lowest place
so that when the host comes to you he may say,
‘My friend, move up to a higher position.’
Then you will enjoy the esteem of your companions at the table.
For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled,
but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”  Lk 14:1, 7-11

In a world of survival of the fittest and highly competitive people (me being one of them and always wanting to be the best), how does today’s Gospel fit.  There is a difference between always giving your best with the gifts God has given you and glorifying Him when you are praised.  If a person uses their gifts to exalt themselves and say “look at me I’m the best” and holds it over others, then they are in the wrong.  Humility requires trust in God.  Humility is trusting in God and waking each day putting into perspective that God is big and we are small.  God does not need us, we need God.  God is control and has given us a way to live through His Son Jesus, the free will He gave us is to choose this path in humility and submit our will to Him.  What a difficult task!  I struggle with humility because of my pride.  Pride continues to creep into my mind each day.  Humility is something I have to consciously think about.  But by the grace of God, I have started to be able to combat that pride and give glory to God in all that I do.  This has helped me to trust in God more and recognize my limitations.  This has helped me to ask for other’s help and rely on other’s and their gifts more.  This has helped me to rest better and worry less.  This has brought me peace!

Today’s challenge: Do something good with the abilities God has given you and glorify Him instead of yourself.  When someone else accomplishes something, congratulate them and don’t be jealous.
