Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary.

Jesus said to the crowd:
“No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel
or sets it under a bed;
rather, he places it on a lampstand
so that those who enter may see the light.
For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible,
and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light.
Take care, then, how you hear.
To anyone who has, more will be given,
and from the one who has not,
even what he seems to have will be taken away.” LK 8:16-18

In the parable of the lamp, Jesus teaches us more about our Christian identity.  After we have come to understand the Word (Good News/Gospel), we must not keep it to ourselves.  It is amazing what one lit candle can do in a dark room.  Jesus also teaches us that we cannot hide our actions.  Some people think that they should get to do whatever they want in the privacy of their own homes or in their private lives.  God sees everything.  We can’t fool God.  We cannot hide our sin.  Jesus wants us to stop trying to hide our sin and face it head on, persevere, and conquer it with His grace.
Today, Jesus teaches us that His Word the Truth, cannot be hidden.  It is timeless, living and effective.  He shared it with the crowds but more importantly 12 very specific chosen Apostles.  Each one of them, minus Judas, went to their deaths preaching the Word.  Our role is to learn the Word, understand it or search until we do understand it, live it, and pass it on to the next generation with patience and perseverance.  Some of us are called to bring the Word to new lands as missionaries overseas, but most of us are called to be missionaries in our homes and bring the Word to those who live with us.

Today’s challenge: Read the Word, understand the Word, spread the Word (through actions, use words if necessary-St. Francis)
