Humbly submit your will to God and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Pray in silence for 5 minutes and just listen.

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal.
But store up treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

The lamp of the body is the eye.
If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light;
but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness.
And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.” Mt. 6: 19-23

Jesus continues to teach the Apostles how to become a saint.  Two very important lessons today: heart and eyes.  Deep down, what really is the intention of your heart?  Is it to get to heaven or just as long as I’m happy, have my cell phone, my TV, video games, friends, etc.  Another trap I think we fall into is what we really wake up and live for each day.  Is it God or is it to work hard get good grades so we can get a good high paying job to live a comfortable life in a nice house with nice cars in a nice neighborhood.  Is that the purpose we get up and fight each day?  It is very important, but the most important thing must be to listen to your heart and do God’s will, which is to love not put our soul desire in material goods.  If we put God first, He helps us put everything else into perspective and reminds us to thank Him for the blessings we have received and the talents or gifts we have to use to help us work hard to receive those material things.  Without God, we do not exist and nothing is possible.  In our hearts, God has put a strong desire for Him, but many of us are so caught up into worldly things we do not take time to really pray and figure out what the deep desire of our heart really is.  It is a desire to be with God, love, and get to heaven.  St. Augustine says, “My heart is restless until it rests in you.”  Listen to your heart in silence where God dwells in “a still small voice” and start waking up each day to glorify God instead of material things.

“The lamp of the body is the eye.” Mt. 6:19-23  After we listen to heart, we must battle each day to train our eyes on heavenly things instead of earthly things.  For guys, this is crucial because we lust through our eyes.  Do an experiment.  For one week, do not watch TV or anything on your cell phone, and no movies.  During the time you usually spend watching these things help somebody in your house or go outside and do something.  Take time to pray, add a Bible app or Catholic app to your phone and look at it.  Read a spiritual book or saint book.  At the end of the week, after your eyes have been on heavenly things instead of earthly things, how has training your eyes helped you to have a more pure heart.  Padre Pio says, “Humility and a pure heart are the wings that take you to heaven.”  I struggle most with heart and eyes being in the right place and training them to be better.  This is a difficult battle, but the rewards are eternal.  Pray for me as I pray for you in this difficult battle.

Daily challenge: Do experiment above.  Really put God first in your life and see heaven on earth in your life.

Become a saint!
