Prayer Prompt before reading JN 15:12-17 Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.
“NO ONE HAS GREATER LOVE THAN THIS, TO LAY DOWN ONE’S LIFE FOR ONE’S FRIENDS.” JN 15:12-17
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Jesus teaches us that the greatest love is to give up our life for another. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, “Our lives were meant to be given away.” We are called to serve. We are created to love and serve by allowing God to work through us. “It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain.”
Matthew Kelly says, “Our God is a God of mission and purpose.” God made you and I for a purpose and gave us a mission at our baptism: reject Satan/remain holy and believe. This is the mission for every baptized person. He made us for a specific purpose and mission. There is no other soul created with the same fingerprint as yours in all of history. You are completely unique.
The world is so confused about love. The devil makes everything blurry. Christ makes everything clear. True love is when we empty ourselves and serve others. When we learn to do this, “God’s commandments are no longer a strait jacket of rules that seem to take away our fun, but they are joy” says Peter Kreeft.
The saints found joy in their suffering and sacrifices because Jesus said, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” What a difficult task! Bring yourself to God’s grace and rely on Him, His grace can do anything.
Today’s challenge: Lay down your life for Christ today by becoming poor in some area of your life, make yourself uncomfortable by putting rocks in your shoes, give without asking for anything in return, say the Stations of the Cross, watch a Youtube music video on Christ’s passion, sit before a crucifix in silence and allow Christ to speak to you.
Be a servant (lay down your life for your friends), become a saint!
