St. Francis de Sales converted 72,000 Protestant Calvinists. His friends made fun of him for being so kind. This is when he said the quote in the title and shared how God is love, mercy, and kindness.

Many if not all saints began their journey at the foot of the cross. Heb. 9:11-14 says, “But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that have come to be, passing through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made by hands, that is not belonging to this creation, he entered once for all into the sanctuary, not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.”

In your prayer life, always go to the foot of the cross at some point in thanksgiving for what Christ did for us. You do not have to wait until Lent to do this. Every Friday the Church requires us to sacrifice to remind us what Christ did for us. Stations of the Cross are not only for Lent, either. Fasting and sacrifice help any sinner to overcome a sin they struggle with. Last, the saints loved to suffer because Jesus suffered for them, this brought them great joy. In a time of comfort and luxury, may we remember that sacrifice brings joy. It is the only way to salvation!
