Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary.

Jesus said:
“My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.
No one can take them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all,
and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand.
The Father and I are one.” JN 10:27-30

A shepherd will leave the 99 to find the one that is lost.  It’s not good economics, but God’s love for His children is radical. He will lay down his life for His sheep.  He will call them and they will come.  He will protect them from danger.  He will feed them and give them drink.  He will lead them to green pastures. He will watch over them day in and day out.  The metaphor of shepherd and sheep is a perfect one and why Jesus chose it to teach us that He is our Shepherd and we are His sheep.  Our priests are in persona Christi at Mass giving us the Bread of Life, Christ works through them in the confessional to forgive us and heal us.  Priests baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit with water and oil to anoint us.  We then become part of God’s family and can partake in everlasting life.  Our bishop confirms us in the Holy Spirit and oversees the whole flock of the diocese.  The priest is their to instruct us for marriage and stand as a witness to us saying our vows.  Finally, the priest leads other young men to the priesthood and helps men and woman hear their call to the religious life.  A priest teaches and inspires the faithful at Mass. He teaches those preparing to become Catholic.  Pastors must run parishes and make great sacrifices to keep them going. Priests go to the hospital to visit the sick or dying.  They say Mass for nuns who cannot leave the convent.  Sometimes they will take the Eucharist to the home bound.  They remember the faithful with their families and give a proper burial. They spend time growing in their own faith with the Liturgy of the Hours and many prayers throughout the day.  Most importantly they give up their life each day for Christ and His flock.

Today’s challenge:  Thank a priest for all that they do physically and spiritually for you and your parish.  It is a difficult task.
If you think God is calling you to priesthood or religious life, give Him a chance to tell you by going to seminary or convent to discern.
