Jesus summoned his Twelve disciples
and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out
and to cure every disease and every illness.
The names of the Twelve Apostles are these:
first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew;
James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;
Philip and Bartholomew,
Thomas and Matthew the tax collector;
James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus;
Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot
who betrayed Jesus.

Jesus sent out these Twelve after instructing them thus,
“Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town.
Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”  Mt. 10:1-7

Jesus summoned the Twelve thousands of years ago but He summons all humanity to be his disciples every day.  He desires to help us be with the Father in heaven more than anything else, it is His purpose and goal, to bring us home to the Father.  He wants it so badly He died for us.  When Jesus summoned the Twelve, they had some tough decisions to make.  They had to give up comfort and luxury of the life they were living.  They had to leave their families, friends, and jobs.  Most importantly they had to give up those things that were leading them to sin.  It was time for them to make a big decision to go all in and totally give up their “self” for Christ.  We desire to do this in our heart once we come to know Jesus, but often we  cling to our bad habits and sins.  It’s what we know and we feel uncomfortable, scared, and unhappy when we don’t have our bad habits and sins.  Change is difficult, but necessary to attain the kingdom of heaven.

Today’s challenge: Change something in your life today that makes you feel uncomfortable.  The disciples decided to do it for the rest of their lives and ended up dying for that change.  Jesus is worth it, He did it for us and the glory of heaven and being with Our Father is worth it.  God give us the grace to change and overcome!  Amen.
