Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted
and they came to him.
He appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles,
that they might be with him
and he might send them forth to preach
and to have authority to drive out demons:
He appointed the Twelve:
Simon, whom he named Peter;
James, son of Zebedee,
and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges,
that is, sons of thunder;
Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew,
Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus;
Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean,
and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him. Mk 3:13-19
One thought the devil puts in our minds is that we are not as holy as someone else, especially the pope, bishops, priests, religious sisters and brothers. We downplay ourselves because we think those people never sin. Of course, we weren’t the chosen 12 either. The Chosen 12 had their mission and purpose. The most important thing we must understand though is that you and I were baptized in the same waters as all of those people I mentioned above. Pope Francis is NOT more baptized than you and I. St. Francis is not more baptized than us. By baptism we are all called to the same holiness as the pope, bishops, priests, religious brothers and sisters; we are all called to be saints. Holiness is perfection through submitting your will to God, following the 10 commandments, living a sacramental life to receive the graces we need to keep fighting the good fight, dying to self and putting on Christ, offering our crosses up when we suffer (thank God we have something to offer our suffering up to-thank you Jesus!), help those in need, fasting and sacrificing to strengthen our self-control and discipline, and love. Every human soul is called to do this through Baptism. May we not take the power of the cross away from Jesus and think we are less holy or any less called to sainthood. We are doing ourselves, the Church, and the world a great disservice.
Today’s challenge: Pray for your vocation. God is calling you, are you listening. Go to adoration and listen.
