Prayer Prompt before reading LK 9:1-6 Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray well, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.

“TAKE NOTHING FOR THE JOURNEY…” LK 9:1-6

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Jesus teaches two important things today.  He can give whoever he wants power and authority over demons, the ability to heal, or anything else he wants.  This means that through Apostolic Succession (tracing Pope Leo XIV back to St. Peter) and laying on of hands, Jesus has given power and authority through the Holy Spirit to those who are ordained to lead the Church. These healings and exorcisms continue today.

Second, Jesus teaches us to take nothing for the journey.  What material baggage are we carrying with us that is keeping us from totally and completely loving God or could be leading us away from God.  It could be money, electronics, overindulgence, unnecessary material things. On our journey to sainthood we will have to conquer the world, our flesh, and the devil. It will require fasting, praying, and giving alms. Take nothing for the journey and trust totally and completely in God. Ouch, I have a lot of work to do!

Today’s challenge: Give to the poor in your home, school, community.  Anyone who needs something is poor.

See a need, fill a need-Fr. Mike Schmitz

Be humble, live with a poor spirit that recognizes each day we need God and to put Him first before everything.  Work on one part of your personality that is hindering you from becoming more holy.

Reflect on what material thing(s) are taking you away from God.  Take small steps to rid yourself from this material item.

Be a servant, become a saint!

“Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic.” What faith the 12 hold in Jesus. The amount of trust in the lord it requires to drop everything and follow his word. This is what stuck out to me, not a single one of them questioned Jesus. Knowing myself, I certainly would’ve been skeptical and worried for a dangerous and unplanned road ahead. We must allow this kind of faith to enter our souls. It is harder said than done to allow God to provide, however, God says he will not lead his people astray. Trust in the Lord and put your full faith in his guidance and he will help you along the path of life. Be okay with not being in control and surrender yourself to him and his teachings. With this great faith, life doesn’t become any easier, we become more equipped to face its challenges and hardships. “Ignorance of Scripture is Ignorance of Christ.” – St. Jerome

How are you, man? This inspires me so much and makes me so proud! How is the new adventure of college life going?
