Prayer Prompt before reading MT 14:22-36 Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray well, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.
“TAKE COURAGE, IT IS I; DO NOT BE AFRAID.” MT 14:22-36
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Jesus teaches us 3 things that could change a person’s life. First, Jesus reveals another part of His identity today by having power over water. Those in the boat respond, “Truly, you are the Son of God”. Second, Jesus teaches us the need for prayer, “He went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone”. Third, He shows us His love and compassion for those who are sick physically, mentally, or spiritually, “People brought to him all those who were sick and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak, and as many as touched it were healed.”
His miracles are incalculable. His love is never ending. His compassion and mercy never stop. What more could a sinner need (Have you recognized and accepted this in yourself yet?), but a Savior who does these amazing things! He is the salve (salvation) to the wound we received from the Original Sin. Where can we go today to touch the tassel on his cloak to be healed? Baptism, then we are continually healed in confession (restores us) and when we receive the Eucharist in the state of grace.
In summary, Jesus teaches us to trust Him and not live in fear but believe, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Jesus teaches us a lot in the last two Gospels. God cannot be outdone in generosity, come to Him in the Eucharist and be transformed by His grace. Pray always. If you need love, compassion, and mercy, His never ends for you. Sit in silence and talk to Him, listen to what He has to say.
He is laying out the foundation of how a sinner can become a saint by remaining in His love, His grace, His life. We are holy when Christ is in us! He is teaching us where to go today in our own lives to have His life in us; prayer, the sacraments, His Word. Immerse yourself in these great spiritual blessings and be washed clean, healed, forgiven, restored.
There is no reason to fear if you have an unfailing love and belief in God because Jesus conquered the world and overcame fear, sin and death. He desires nothing more than for us to be with Him. His desire is even greater than ours, come to Him and experience the peace and joy He wants to give you.
