Prayer Prompt before reading MT 21:23-27: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and God the Son are so that I may know who I am.
In several places in the Gospels and New Testament, Jesus tells us by what authority he does things. He is one with the Father who is in Him and He is in Him.

In today’s Gospel, it is not about the authority by which Jesus does things. It is by what authority the Jews do things. They cannot answer Jesus’ question showing that they do not speak with authority or have the authority of God like Jesus does. Jesus speaks with authority because He is God. C.S. Lewis says, “Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse..”
Take time to reflect on this reality; Jesus is God. Belief in God is difficult. It requires trust, and trust takes time to develop by spending time with someone and getting to know them. In these last two weeks of Advent, spend time getting to know Jesus so you can trust and believe.
Jesus wants us to know how much God the Father loves us and is chasing after us to bring us back to heaven with Him. I get so distracted from this all throughout the day. Jesus does not want us to know a bunch of facts about Him, He wants us to know him. He has revealed himself through the Scriptures and set up the Catholic Church to keep His Divine Revelation protected and passed down.
The question we have to ask ourselves is what are we made for? What did our Creator make us for? Jesus revealed to us that the Father created us to love, to will the good of the other. He also revealed to us that we are broken. What is your brokenness? If we do not really dig deep down where we have pushed away all of our brokenness and confront it, we don’t need a Savior.
Jesus has a lot of authority, but His greatest desire is for us to allow Him in so He can fulfill His mission. His mission is to take on all of our sin, brokenness, anxiety, depression, fear of the unknown, lack of trust, lack of courage to forgive, family struggles, sickness, hate, our burdens and give us rest. Jesus revealed to us today that He has the authority to take our place in our suffering, take on all of our sin, take on all of our brokenness, and give us rest. I need a Savior, thank you Jesus.
Today’s challenge: Spend time with Jesus everyday. Learn one new thing from Him each day in prayer and reflection on His Word in silence. It will always break down to love and compassion for God and others. Apply it to your life.
We are saints in training! Be a servant, be a saint today!
