EMMANUEL,WHICH MEANS “GOD IS WITH US.” MT 1:18-25
Humbly submit your will to God (thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself totally and completely to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about.
When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph,
but before they lived together,
she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.
Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man,
yet unwilling to expose her to shame,
decided to divorce her quietly.
Such was his intention when, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
“Joseph, son of David,
do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home.
For it is through the Holy Spirit
that this child has been conceived in her.
She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins.”
All this took place to fulfill
what the Lord had said through the prophet:
Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,
which means “God is with us.”
When Joseph awoke,
he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him
and took his wife into his home.
He had no relations with her until she bore a son,
and he named him Jesus. MT 1:18-25
Imagine the anxiety Mary must have felt telling Joseph that she is pregnant by the Holy Spirit and not him. Imagine receiving the news that your future wife is pregnant and she had no relations with you. Actually, in marriage Mary and Joseph committed to being chaste to stay focused on raising the Christ.
Mary is the ever-Virgin. Joseph the most chaste spouse. It took an angel to keep them together. When two people come together and commit themselves to one another trusting in God, they can make it through the most difficult of circumstances.
Rejoice, today the Gospels are revealing to us that a prophecy has been fulfilled, “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means “God is with us”. 2,000 years ago God became Man. Today, He is present “For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” MT 18:20
In prayer, in the Eucharist, dwelling within us in the Holy Spirit through Baptism, in Adoration, in every person you meet, God is with us. Take time to be with Him. Sit in silence, listen, read the Bible, journal what Christ said to you. He will tell you what He made you for and who He is, then in knowing your identity in Christ, you can overcome all difficulties in life secure in His love.
Today’s challenge: Be still and reflect on the words, “God is with us”. Believe. Trust. Hope.
We are saints in training. Be a servant, be a saint today!
