“AMEN, I SAY TO YOU, NO PROPHET IS ACCEPTED IN HIS OWN NATIVE PLACE.” LK 4:24-30

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Have you ever felt unaccepted somewhere? Sadly, this happens in our homes, schools, parishes, and communities. Jesus had the power to heal, raise people from the dead, He is Word made Flesh to tell everyone about salvation and eternal life. He died on a cross for these people. Yet they did not accept Him. Why? The same reason we do not accept Him.

He still has the power to heal today through priests, He is present in all of our tabernacles, with those in prayer, and His Word is always living and effective. He is with you and I now. Why don’t we accept Him? I don’t know about you but when I am really honest with myself and I listen to my heart, I’m afraid.

Afraid to change maybe, but I want to. I want to get closer to Jesus, too. But, I am most afraid of dying to myself, losing control, being vulnerable and giving my life completely to God. I am afraid that it will be a harder life. God will test me more or the devil will tempt me more because I am trying to give myself completely to God.

I know you have many other reasons, too. Today, let us be courageous men and woman, truly die to self and allow God to be in control. Jesus tells us in the Scriptures hundreds of times, “Be not afraid”. What is the worst that could happen? Eternal life with God, it is worth it!

Today’s challenge: Die to self totally and completely. Let Jesus love you.

Be a servant, be a saint today!

This gospel tells us that we aren’t accepting Jesus even when he accepted us. We are afraid. We are afraid to follow Him. We need to build ourselves up and try to follow Him. He will help us. He loves each of us so much that he died for us. We need to become involved and follow him in our daily lives now.

In the time of Israel there were many lepers. The people were angry that he was the only one that was healed from the curse of leprosy. I think this relates to our lives a lot because people are jealous of the people that get lucky. They don’t understand this is good there just very greedy and want everything to be fair.

When we give our life completely and totally to God, nothing bad can come from it. It may feel like we are losing control of our life but God has a plan for us. We should just let go and give everything to God. He will take everything off of our hands.

God will test me more or the devil will tempt me more because I am trying to give myself completely to God. This stuck out to me. I think it means that even though we know what we are called to do, and who we are called to be, it won’t be easy. To become the savior of the world Jesus didn’t just write a book or something, he trully practiced what he preached. He carried all of our sins.

To me I feel when they were all mad at Jesus for not healing them it was their fault. They wouldn’t follow Jesus so Jesus wasn’t going to help them. This is a good reminder of heaven and hell. It will be judgement day soon and do you think you have lived a good life following Jesus well that is a good question. What do you think. Lent is a time for us to reflect on that and try to be our best self.

Something that I got out of this was that if we follow Jesus we are not supposed to be accepted into the world, we are called to be different from what is normal in this world. My favorite bible verse of all time is, “If the world hates you, realize it hates me first.” This verse is amazing for this, and is very important.

And he said, “Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place,” Prophets will say stuff that is not as accepted in a culture even though it is correct, take Jesus as an example he said stuff that we know are true but people did not like his words and even killed him because of them. I think people throughout history might not fully understand the prophets words.

“devil will tempt me more because I am trying to give myself completely to God.“ I chose this in the scripture reflection because it can be relatable to a lot of people. When a lot of people try to get closer to God the devil does not like it and tries to sabotage them. It is a test to make sure we can stay close to God and stay in his mercy.

We often worry about our life. We are afraid of change. I know I am too! But change is a part of life. As much as we want things to stay the same, change happens. The seasons come and go, we grow up, we move on in life. Jesus wants to change you. When change happens, you don’t know if it is going to change for the better. But change with Jesus is always better. He wants nothing but the best for you. It may not seem like the best at first, but in the end, it’s always worth it.

“They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong. But he passed through the midst of them and went away.” This part stuck out to me, because it shows that those who are loved by God are safe and protected, and what shall we be afraid of when we have God on our side? He made all of the things we are afraid of, and has power over them. So, similar to when Elisha walked straight through the crowd of people trying to kill him, we too may walk right through all of our fears when we have God with us.

This passage of the bible was a little hard for me to get something from but what I think it could be telling me is that Jesus has a plan. We don’t know why he only went to that one widow or why he only healed that one leper but that’s what he did and he did it for a reason. We don’t know why God does what he does and we may never understand his ways but what he does is for the best and we just have to learn to trust him.

I say I am not afraid to give everything up to God. I am though. It is terrifying to lose control of what you want to do it is scary to be vulnerable. I try to do it in little steps. Have we felt like we don’t belong in this world. Well you’re correct!! We never belong here, God sent us down here to realize that this isn’t where we belong. Heaven is our home because that’s our father, God’s children. Home is a place where we feel home at a place we never want to be at a place where we suffer of violence. God doesn’t want us to suffer at all. That’s where he promises us, and gives us eternal life in Heaven. Sin is a way to hurt God. Confession is what we use to give back to the father like mass. if we can Humbly submit ourselves to God, we can find ourselves closer to Christ. What we need is a relationship with God. Some keys are prayer, reading the bible, admiring God’s works, and rosaries are to get to mother Mary. If we do these things we find ourselves with Christ, and then we are home at last with God. The one who created us to be home with him.

God knew that the famine was going to happen and he could have stopped it at any time, but he waited till the right time. It can be easy to turn away from God and be mad when something goes wrong, but we should realize that God has a reason for everything that he does. It’s a chance to get back to the father. Don’t be content, go out and teach people how wonderful God is. Stay out of your comfort zone. My cross country coach always said, comfort will kill you. I think this means that God does not discriminate, he does not separate anything based on worldly status, wealth, or power. he separates based on your heart. he doesn’t separate race from race, neither male or female. he just judges us on our actions and our willingness to forgive or say “I am sorry”. He doesn’t care about any physical groupings, he cares about our good deeds.

Jesus is talking about how, “no prophet is accepted in his own native place.” He is showing that we might not be accepted where we are right now. And that’s okay. We can be like the disciples were when Jesus sent them off in pairs of 2. He only gave them certain things, and had to rely on the good of people’s hearts to survive. Or we can be like St. Francis of Assisi, where he followed Jesus even to the point to live like he did.

Jesus wants us to go out of our way to help others. he talk about how the prophets were not excepted in their native town, implying that that was how it would be for him.

Die for Jesus. It could mean literally and not. Literally like some saints who died to defend Christ. Not like living your life and giving your life to God and not the world. Killing your life in the world to give it to God. It’s kinda a bad example but you get the idea. Living out of our world and giving everything to God. Jesus said one time that we have to take up our crosses and follow him, and whoever loses his life for Christ will save it and who ever saves his life will lose it. I feel like these go hand-in-hand and are some of the most important scriptures.

Let Jesus love you. It is hard to just let someone do anything. When you don’t see that you are loved then you just say I am not loved but Jesus has loved us since the beginning we can’t see it though so we need to be able to know and feel it. We need to learn how to feel. We need to know how God’s love feels instead of just saying I am not loved nor am I worthy. Nobody is worthy of God’s love but God is willing to give us His love and we should be able to accept it. We need to learn that we are worthy of love and we are always loved.

“I know you have many other reasons, too. Today, let us be courageous men and woman, truly die to self and allow God to be in control. Jesus tells us in the Scriptures hundreds of times” This is something people shouldn’t just scan over but rather pay more attention, it is meaningful to the soul.

Today’s scripture reflection is telling me that sometimes we get left out and Jesus died on the cross for us and for people that did not like him. Jesus has the power to heal us and Jesus wants us to get closer to him.

You should not be afraid to become closer to God. When becoming closer to God you have a better relationship with him and are less likely to sin because God knows you better and you can know good from evil.

Afraid. Many different forms of being afraid. Being scared or thinking that you won’t be accepted. God is telling us that he excepts everyone. He gives everyone a chance and will. A choice that we have whether we choose right or wrong.

We may not be accepted on earth, but we are always accepted in heaven. People here may hate us, ridicule us or outcast us purely for trying to help or because we are different, but that shouldn’t stop us from trying to help them. We need to continue on our way with our heads held high, looking to God so we may reach him.

God is telling us that he loves us with his whole heart. He died for us on the cross to save us from sin. If Jesus didn’t love us, He would’ve not died on the cross, but He loved us so much that He died on the cross to save us from sin. “AMEN, I SAY TO YOU, NO PROPHET IS ACCEPTED IN HIS OWN NATIVE PLACE.” This part struck me because even Prophets go to Heaven and stay with God.

The scripture is telling me that we may feel unaccepted somewhere or by someone.
Like Jesus he was unaccepted by many of the people when he had to carry the cross. He was excluded because he was able to do certain things and he got bullied because he said he was the son of God.
At times we may feel hurt or unwanted but think how Jesus still was kind and loving to everyone even when he was hurting.

Today’s gospel talks about a man getting his taxes forgiven or money that he owes him. But then another man that owes him less he didn’t forgive him. This is weird because it is different from our normal lives. We always want the more thing we can get.

What stuck out to me was forgive your brother from your heart. This stuck out to me cause how many times do we forgive but we still hold on to what they did. We have probably held a grudge for something that someone else has done to us, but have we ever truly forgiven someone without holding a grudge. Try to forgive someone truly from your heart like Jesus did.

Its hard not being accepted. No matter what we do we will never be accepted. Everything we do, we will always be judged. The “trends” are always changing and it always feels like we’re doing the wrong thing. I don’t understand why people are so judgy. We all sin, so why do some people get to judge people for sinning while they do the same thing. The one who can judge us is God. He is sinless.

The more we forgive the people who hurt us, the more forgiveness God will have in store for us. We have to take the time to break away from the anger or resentment we have towards the people that have harmed us. It’s like repainting something until it becomes new again, just the same way we become cleansed after confession.
