Mary and Joseph are devout Jews and do as the Law of Moses prescribed taking Jesus to be circumcised in the Temple and offering up two pigeons or turtle doves. Mary’s heart is pierced by Simeon’s prophecy and Anna the widow has been praying and fasting all day everyday sees the Redeemer of Israel and all mankind.
So, to be close to Jesus is to follow and obey His laws and the Churches, to allow the Holy Spirit to work in us as Simeon did, and to pray unceasingly night and day while fasting like Anna. Which one do you need to work on as we approach Lent?
