Prayer Prompt before reading JN 7:40-53: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and God the Son are so that I may know who I am.
“NEVER BEFORE HAS ANYONE SPOKEN LIKE THIS MAN.” JN 7:40-53
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Jesus is speaking words that can get Him arrested and later killed by the Jews and Romans. Therefore, we know that Jesus was claiming to be God (He said so yesterday in the Gospel :)). This is insane. This is radical. Unless Jesus is God. Then, the Incarnation did take place and God pure Spirit became Man and walked the earth revealing to us the plan of salvation from the Father so we could get back to Him (The will of the Father is that each person He creates gets back to Him in heaven-Pope Francis, General Audience on the “Lord’s Prayer”).
The Creed we state at our Baptism and every Sunday since 325AD is what Jesus revealed. Today, people are still arguing about whether Jesus really is who He says He is and 1.3-1.4 billion Catholics and 2.6 billion Christians believe Him. Thousands have died for Him as a witness/martyr.
There has never been a human being that has been talked about more than Jesus because of His radical claims. Jesus did not go halfway in or half-hearted to die in your place for your sins. May we not live a half-hearted life only living or believing in part of the Creed and giving only a little effort to fight Satan and strive for holiness. A radical love, God’s love in which we are made in his image and likeness, gives His life up for us. This radical love requires a radical response!
This is the call Jesus came to teach us from the Father. We are called to live out our Baptismal promises and become saints. Stop trying to do it all on your own. Allow Jesus to come into your life totally and completely and His grace will help you become who you truly are, the best version of yourself. The version of you that is most free!
Invite Him into your fears, worries, anxiety, love, gratitude, joy, prayers, works, suffering, and especially your sin. He died and rose to be with you now. He wants us to cooperate with the Father’s Will, so He can transform us one prayer at a time, one worry at a time, one joyful moment at a time.
Most importantly, if Jesus Christ stood among us today and claimed to be God, there is still something missing. You have to BELIEVE HIM! Fr. Mike Schmitz says, “To believe means to belong, and whatever you belong to is how you live your life and what you are willing to die for”. Are you ready for a fight? Prepare to be challenged, prepare for even greater suffering, prepare for an adventure, and wait patiently for the reward and joy He has for you.
Today’s challenge: No person has ever spoken with authority like Jesus. Ask Him to help you understand His message, ask the Holy Spirit to increase wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of the Scriptures. Then BELIEVE and radical changes will take place in your life. Scary right, it’s what you are made for!
Be a servant, be a saint today!
