Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
As Jesus was teaching in the temple area he said,
“How do the scribes claim that the Christ is the son of David?
David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit, said:
The Lord said to my lord,
‘Sit at my right hand
until I place your enemies under your feet.’
David himself calls him ‘lord’;
so how is he his son?”
The great crowd heard this with delight. MK 12:35-37
Today, Jesus teaches the crowd and us today a very important lesson; He is the Messiah. He is teaching us that there is someone bigger than David here in our midst. The Scripture scholar for this reading says, “Jesus questions the claim of the scribes about the Davidic descent of the Messiah, not to deny it (Mt 1:1; Acts 2:20, 34; Rom 1:3; 2 Tm 2:8) but to imply that he is more than this. His superiority derives from his transcendent origin, to which David himself attested when he spoke of the Messiah with the name “Lord” (Ps 110:1)”
What does this mean for us in our daily lives? Jesus is God “His superiority derives from his transcendent origin”. In those of us who are baptized, Jesus’s Spirit lives on in us. How empowering is this! The challenge is allowing Christ’s Spirit to take over our lives. Bishop Barron asks, “Is Jesus the Lord of your life? Is He the Lord of every room of your house? Is He the Lord of your sexuality? Is He the Lord of your friendships?” This is difficult. I often want to separate God from certain parts of my life. My ego gets in the way or my pleasure seeking.
What is at the heart of the matter? Jesus wants all, He gave all. Why? Jesus married the divine to the human. He knows us better than we know ourselves and He loves us more than we love ourselves. He wants us to experience the freedom from sin. When we let go of our ego, allow Christ to take on our sin, and don’t allow ourselves to get addicted to pleasure, we experience a spiritual freedom, the divine. It brings joy, peace, and eternal rewards. This is what we are made for keeping the end goal in mind, complete and eternal bliss, love and to be loved, mission and purpose, fulfillment with God now and in heaven forever!
