“There is something greater than Jonah here.”  Lk 11:29-32

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary.

While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them,
“This generation is an evil generation;
it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it,
except the sign of Jonah.
Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites,
so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
At the judgment 
the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation
and she will condemn them,
because she came from the ends of the earth
to hear the wisdom of Solomon,
and there is something greater than Solomon here.
At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation 
and condemn it,
because at the preaching of Jonah they repented,
and there is something greater than Jonah here.”  Lk 11:29-32

Prophets were sent by God to preach repentance and prepare the way for Jesus, the Savior.  Jonah in the belly of the whale for 3 days is symbolic of Jesus’s death and rising in 3 days.  God sent prophets with a message of repentance, He shows how much He loves us by sending His only Son, Jesus to die for us.  We deserve to be punished on that cross for our sins against God and man.  Jesus took our place.  Good people don’t go to heaven and bad people go to hell.  People who repent (change their heart and mind), are baptized in the water and the Spirit, and believe Jesus died, resurrected, ascended into heaven and will come again to judge the living and the dead go to heaven.  People who repent, strive to grow in holiness every day.  They change their life by allowing God to transform them.  They become vulnerable to God.  What amazes me is how many people around the world today die and do not cave for their belief in Jesus.  They die for Jesus because He died for them.  ”There is something greater than Jonah here.”  Do you believe?  Give God a chance.

Today’s challenge: Continue to learn more about Jesus in the Scriptures, YouCat or Catechism, and in prayer just talking to Him like you are texting a friend.  Repent, change one thing in your life that is taking you away from Jesus.
