Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary.

Some Pharisees approached Jesus, and tested him, saying,
“Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause whatever?”
He said in reply, “Have you not read that from the beginning
the Creator made them male and female and said,
For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?
So they are no longer two, but one flesh.
Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not separate.”
They said to him, “Then why did Moses command
that the man give the woman a bill of divorce and dismiss her?”
He said to them, “Because of the hardness of your hearts
Moses allowed you to divorce your wives,
but from the beginning it was not so.
I say to you, whoever divorces his wife
(unless the marriage is unlawful)
and marries another commits adultery.”
His disciples said to him,
“If that is the case of a man with his wife,
it is better not to marry.”
He answered, “Not all can accept this word,
but only those to whom that is granted.
Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so;
some, because they were made so by others;
some, because they have renounced marriage
for the sake of the Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever can accept this ought to accept it.”  MT 19:3-12

Jesus was being tested on two different views held by Jews on divorce, one was stricter and one was less strict.  Of course, the Pharisees are trying to trip Jesus up again (Good luck!).  It is important to note what Jesus says because these are similar debates we are having in our country today on marriage.  First, Jesus goes back to Genesis and teaches us what the Creator’s Will is for marriage before Moses had changed it.  ”For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So they are no longer two, but one flesh.  Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not separate.” Second, Jesus teaches that some marriages are unlawful thus we have annulments.  Third, Jesus teaches that some people are created to live celibate lives that are not called to the priesthood or religious life, “Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so.”  This is not a bad thing and should be cherished as their call and identity in Christ.  Marriage is only marriage if a man and woman join together in the sacrament of Matrimony saying vows and be open to having children.  Jesus makes it clear, “Not all can accept this word, but only those to whom that is granted.”  We can love in many different ways, not just physical love and all vocations are called to be celibate even those who are married.  Chastity goes much further than not doing the marital act.  It shapes a person’s very life by how we talk, what we wear, and the intentions of our heart in all relationships.

Today’s challenge: Be a light in the world by choosing to live chaste.  So many people are confused.  Jesus is the Truth. Seek Christ and pray for the courage to do what is right even when nobody else is.

Be a servant, become a saint!
