Prayer Prompt before reading MT 13:47-53 Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray well, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.
“DO YOU UNDERSTAND ALL THESE THINGS?” MT 13:47-53
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Jesus teaches us that He has come to fulfill the Old Testament and He is teaching us how to attain the Kingdom of heaven, He is the new. We often try to make things complicated, but Jesus keeps things simple. Remember, simple does not mean easy. A righteous person is a baptized soul who has died with Christ and now has new life through His death and resurrection. We believe God will have mercy on a non-baptized person if Christ has not been revealed to them and they have lived a life for the common good of all.
All religions have peace at the heart of their goal of worship and a golden rule. As Catholics, Jesus taught us the most important thing that makes a person holy is submitting their will to God. Our religion is about God and how He wants us to participate in His plan. God created us, have you asked Him what He made you for. This is essential. God gave us an intellect to know Him and free will to choose. God never changes. He is love and mercy, constant, unchanging. This is the perfect anecdote for a sinner.
Allow God to forgive you and in return forgive others. God’s love and mercy are more powerful than anything in this life and the next, do you allow His love and mercy to work in your life. Peter Kreeft says, “On judgment day their are only two kinds of people, “my will be done” and “Thy Will be done”. Our lives are a gift given to us by the mercy of God. Time is a gift from God giving us time to know Him and to be transformed by His love and mercy. May we strive to be more like Him with the help of His grace and mercy choosing to do His Will and not our own and sharing it with others.
Change begins with us, but change is so hard. The battle is in our minds and belief begins in our hearts. Virtue or good habits can be formed to help us change, it takes one day at a time keeping our minds set on the Kingdom of heaven. A repentant sinner falls many times, but God looks at how many times they get back up and fight. He controls His grace to work in our lives fast or slow, but we must be open to it and continue to bring ourselves back in the sacraments He left behind for us.
Last, what do we do with our suffering? Christ says to be His follower we must pick up our cross and follow Him. Do we see our crosses as blessings from God like the saints did? Probably not. It is through our crosses that we discover Christ. It is through the weak and the poorest of the poor that we see the face of Christ. Without crosses we would be lost. Jesus asks us to offer up our crosses with His Cross and join our suffering to His. He will never give us more than we can handle, but He may test our love, trust and faithfulness for Him.
It is not what we have or how popular we are or become, it is bringing our little souls to God’s mercy, love, and grace allowing Him to live through us. Then, we will receive a reward that is worth giving up everything for. A reward that drove thousands of martyrs to die for it. A reward that Christ died for so we could have it, to be with Our Father who is madly in love with His creation and Jesus forever in His glory. That sounds pretty special to me. I want to be a part of that.
Today’s challenge: Allow Christ to take you wherever you are in your journey and bring you closer to His merciful heart. This is what He died for. Be ready for a great adventure!
