“I HAVE COME TO SET THE EARTH ON FIRE” LK 12:49-53
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Jesus said to his disciples:
“I have come to set the earth on fire,
and how I wish it were already blazing!
There is a baptism with which I must be baptized,
and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished!
Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?
No, I tell you, but rather division.
From now on a household of five will be divided,
three against two and two against three;
a father will be divided against his son
and a son against his father,
a mother against her daughter
and a daughter against her mother,
a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.” Lk 12:49-53
Jesus uses powerful words today. “I have come to set the earth on fire” and “I did not come to bring peace but division.” Why does Jesus cause division? “You are either with me or against me”. There is no fence or in between with Jesus. Why? Heaven is a serious business and His mission and purpose were to save souls by giving up His life, teaching us that the Father, our Creator, loves us very much, and He came to us to show us how to love.
Jesus continues to come to us today, but the key to love is it requires a response. How will you respond to this love that causes joy and division, persecution and resurrection, suffering and relief, sacrifice and reward, and leads to true happiness all the way into eternity? Your soul depends on it and it all begins with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
This is hard to understand. Don’t forget the power of fire in our physical and spiritual world. In our physical world, many forests and homes have been destroyed due to fire. In our spiritual world at Pentecost the fire of the Holy Spirit came down on our first followers, the disciples, and today through us to build something new.
This is the fire Jesus can’t wait to unleash on the world, a dysfunctional family in His eyes. The division He is speaking of is a world that once had no future. There is no hope in a fallen world, only dysfunction, and no direction or purpose, everyone for themselves.
I think of it as a burning field of weeds and brush that must be burned to create new growth so everything can come to live in it. Jesus came to bring the human family hope. He came to bring all of the dysfunction in us to a rightly ordered life and rightly ordered worship. He came to give us purpose and mission, to do the will of His Father.
Now, in this time and place, we have a decision to make. We can die to ourselves, our fallen human nature/flesh, worldly goods, and put on Christ to defeat the devil. It is extremely difficult to enter heaven because dying to ourselves and doing the Will of God is tough. It requires a lot of searching and wrestling with God. It requires daily prayer and reading the Scriptures. It requires fasting and telling ourselves no.
So, why do it? God wants us to be back with Him forever. He desires a friendship with His Creation in which He is madly in love with. The joy we receive from a rightly ordered life and more importantly spending the rest of our lives in the glory of God is so powerful it looks beyond the hardship. Quite simply, love likes to suffer. We are called to joyfully suffer and sacrifice for others.
Christ, too, saw this wonderful glory of heaven while on His journey through His Passion and Death. He knew well it would all be worth it. Do you believe? Are you ready to start fighting with your whole heart, soul, mind and will? Eternal life depends on it.
Today’s challenge: Look at the big picture and where your life fits into salvation history now. Reflect on the decisions you have made in the past and how they have formed you today to be who you are. Your future depends on your will and God’s grace. What do you need to change? Seek and you will find. Never give up. Believe.
Be a servant, become a saint!

Sacrifice joyfully for another today!
“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” This stuck out to me because when i hear about fire in the bible it makes me think about our souls and how if we just let Jesus into our lives our soul would be on fire with him inside us.
He came to set the earth on fire. For love of the Lord and of our Faith. Three against two I think that that means that the world will separate the beliefs of the world will be divided some will not follow him and some are his followers and come to him in times of need.
Today in scripture my favorite part was “You are either with me or against me”. It shows how your on one side of the wall or on the other side and you have the option to choose. Your with God or your with the devil, Heaven or Hell, Angels or fallen angels. You have to decide if you truly love God or push him away.
“how I wish it were already blazing!” we need to start “lighting the world on fire” by just being nice/respectful of others. It shows what our priorities are, and to show the real reason why we believe in what we believe
A part that stuck out to me is Jesus says
“Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?
No, I tell you, but rather division.”
I think what he means is He has come to separate hell from Heaven and those who believe in him and those who do not. Jesus also says that He came to set earth on fire and he wished it already was on fire. I think by that Jesus is telling us to go set the world on fire and spread his word.
Jeusus today is talking to us how he will come like a fire. “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” He is coming to clense us with his love and compassion, and we must love him and embrace him.
I believe that what Jesus is saying by He will light the world on fire is that He will save the people on the earth and lead them to heaven.
today the scripture told me that God has come to save us and we have to choose good or bad there is no in between. He said that He did not come to make peace but to make division because we should choose Him over worldly desires. He is the greatest thing to ever be and we must give up what we have to follow Him
This Gospel story tells us that there is no in between being with Jesus or without Jesus. We can only love Him or not. The way that we can get off that fence is to respond to His call and develop a relationship with Him and to pray to Him. Our soul depends on how we respond to His call. Do we accept Him or not? It might take us until the day we die but the time will come when God asks us and we must answer. Jesus said that we do not know when He is to return so we must be ready to answer His call so that when He comes, we are ready for Him. We must be able to tell ourselves, “no,” to the things that are bad for us and say, “yes,” to the things that are good for us.
what stood out to me was Jesus uses powerful words today. “I have come to set the earth on fire” and “I did not come to bring peace but division. I feel like he’s telling us that since we’re sinning so much he isn’t gonna be nice about it. I’ll admit I dont read my bible as much anymore but I still do spend and make time for God I just don’t wanna fall out of my faith and most of our faith takes trusting and believing that he is really here.
Today Jesus tells us he wants to set the world on fire but he doesn’t mean literally on fire he means he wants the fire purify our souls so they are ready for him in Heaven it’s like the Holy Fire of the Holy Spirit that comes down upon us at pentecost to preach the word of God.
Following the Will of the Father is difficult but we must learn how to tell ourselves no. We weren’t meant to belong on this earth but in Heaven. We must choose whether we want to follow Jesus or worldly things, there is no in between. Jesus also talks about setting fire to the earth, not to kill us but to renew us.
he wants us to be happy with him and to be most joyful when we follow him forever.
then when we get to heaven we get even closer to him to feel even more joy.
so we need to start believing in putting everything for God.
Jesus is our fire. We depend on fire to survive. We can’t live without heat, cooked food, or light. Jesus has come to light the way to Heaven, for us to depend on Him as our lifesource.
What stuck out to me was when it said: “Christ, too, saw this wonderful glory of heaven while on His journey through His Passion and Death. He knew well it would all be worth it.” Christ saw his future in heaven, and we may see/ meet him there. We just have to be open-minded, and believe that God is always watching us and cares about us.
I think that the modern world has turned Jesus into a happy-go-lucky hippie, who will do everything you ask of him because he is supposed to be all loving. But God’s love is not of a hipsters “peace and love” vibe, nor of a master’s love of his servants. But Rather, it is a radical, fearful, and pure love. It is His love that ties everything we know to existence. without His love, no one, thing, or idea would not be in existence today. Jesus came to cause division, because he loves purely. Jesus gives us the option to love him back, and we cannot be wishy-washy in our love! We cannot live our lives just thinking, “Oh God will forgive me, I’ll just tell him that I love him and he’ll just let me into heaven. I’m fine” but youre NOT! Jesus sees into every action and the motive behind it! E will know every purpose, every thought and belief that enters your mind! We need to know that Jesus will forgive us, yes, but only Ivf we are completely contrite of heart and we understand that GOD IS GOD! He is almighty, all powerful, and all loving. We need to make sure that we love him back with as much ferocity as we can must. All for the Greater Glory of God!
he says that he has come to set the earth on fire then also says that he is not here to bring peace but division but why is that why does he want us to fight this is something to think about why does he want us to fight its something that you might be struggling to understand me too but lets think he always is going to for give us or maybe he is her to prove our religion wrong get us to fight if he tells us we are wrong tells us that yes you believe in me but not in the correct way so that gets us angry because we like to be right we are “always” right but we aren’t and he gets us to fight father vs son
what stuck out to me was ” I have come to set the earth on fire, and now I wish it was already blazing!” Like when farmers set their crops on fire it gets rid of the weeds and other bad stuff. God is coming to get rid of all the bad stuff by ” setting the world on fire”.
“I have come to set the earth on fire“ When you set a field on fire it fertilizes it more so when Jesus says he has come to set the world on fire he wants to fertilize us and make us better for our brothers and sisters. It stuck out because it shows that Jesus cares for us and he wants us to be better.
Today’s scripture taught me we have to choose good or bad So, God wants us to be back with Him forever. He desires a friendship with His Creation in which He is madly in love with.Christ, too, saw this wonderful glory of heaven while on His journey through His Passion and Death. He knew well it would all be worth it, He died for all of our sins not his but ours.
From now on a household of five will be divided,
three against two and two against three;
a father will be divided against his son
and a son against his father,
a mother against her daughter
and a daughter against her mother,
a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.” Lk 12:49-53
This stuck out to me because it tells us that Jesus wants to set the world on fire. Not literally on fire, but he wants to purify our souls.
In this gospel, Jesus is saying that he will set the Earth on fire. Fire is basically the Holy Spirit. He wants to give the world the Holy spirit or God. Jesus wants to be with us our entire life until we die and reach Heaven. The devil just wants us to become separated from Jesus and doesn’t want us to get into Heaven, but Jesus’ love is powerful enough to keep us with him all our life. We should become servants and serve Him.
I have come to set the world on fire and how I wish it was already blazing. This stuck out to me because the symbol of fire is for the Holy Spirit. So Jesus is saying he has given us the Holy Spirit but it hasn’t been blazing. He wishes it would but we are not doing a simple act of kindness or of love.
Jesus will come in the form of fire and the holy spirit will divide us among our familys. “From now on a household of five will be divided,
three against two and two against three;
a father will be divided against his son
and a son against his father,
a mother against her daughter
and a daughter against her mother,
a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
A part of the scripture today is that Jesus said that he would “set the earth on fire”. This stuck out to me because even Jesus was angered because of all the badness of the world and how he wished it already was on fire. I think by this he meant I wish this world was on fire with love. Fire spreads so I think he meant that he wanted the love to be spread around the world.
When Jesus says “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” he is telling us that we need to reset and change how the world loves and thinks of him and others.
Today we hear about how Jesus wants to set the world on fire. Fire in a field tears down the bad things and makes the remaining parts better. This is exactly what Jesus wants to do in our lives today. He wants to take the imperfect and broken and bad parts of us, and make them perfect, holy, and good.
Today’s scripture is talking about “setting the earth in fire” but not actually setting the earth on fire but bringing peace to the world and being kind to others
Something that I got from this gospel was that, for us Americans there really is no excuse for us not to go to mass. Or as it said “no fence”. There are churches around every corner, and christian business all around. We can just order a bible of of the Internet, and in 2 days we have the word of God. Meanwhile we can look at places like China where Christians are being tortured and even killed, just because of what they believe in. Out of all of the countries in the world here in the U.S we do not have any excuses on why we don’t go to church, or we don’t go to confession, we have it the best, so we should take advantage of it.
“three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.” This stuck out to me because we are fighting each other when we should be fighting satin by praying to God. If we pray to God and don’t fight each other then we can take on satin and defeat him with God’s powers
I like when Jesus said “You are either with me or against me.” I liked this because when it comes to Jesus, you can’t kind of believe in him. You either do or you don’t. In this case when he says 3 against 2, I think when he says that he means not everyone will believe in him, but we are called to.
when I read I have come to set the earth on fire I think it means he wants us all to follow him. He wants to be our fire. He wants to be our fire because we rely on fire to cook to stay warm he wants us to rely on him.
I think what God means here is that he will burn everything to find you, if you humble submit yourself to him.
Today God is telling me that he wants us to know what how serious Heaven is and that He loves us very much.”Heaven is a serious business and His mission and purpose were to save souls by giving up His life, teaching us that the Father, our Creator, loves us very much, and He came to us to show us how to love.” This sentence tells me that .
The meaning of today’s scripture reflection is if we are not with God we are against him. We must always stay close to God no matter what. He loves you, you just need to love him back. People say that they don’t believe in God because there are bad people in the world. That’s like saying they don’t believe in barbers because there are so many people with overgrown hair. The people who are bad just don’t come to God. Just like the people with overgrown hair don’t go to the barbers.
Jesus said to his disciples “I have come to set the world on fire.” Something similar is when a farmer sets a big chunk of land on fire sometimes to get rid of weeds. I think Jesus is trying to say that he is going to get rid of the weeds of earth; bad people.
Just like the people with overgrown hair don’t go to the barbers!
Jesus wants us to live joyfully with him. To do that, we need to put God before everything else. Worldly things don’t make it to Heaven. When a single person, out of 7.8 billion people, gives their life to Jesus, there is rejoicing and songs of praise in Heaven.
Jesus and God just want us to be happy. What stuck out to me is when it said that we get to choose what to do right from wrong. That stuck with me because that is something I need to work on and other people do too. If we ever want to get to heaven we need to choose the right thing and always believe in Jesus.
I think Jesus is telling us that we have to choose between good and bad. There is no in between. When we die we either will go to Heaven or hell there is no in between. Purgatory is not in between, it gets us ready and fully purified for Heaven. “Now, in this time and place, we have a decision to make.” We have to make up our mind and choose if we are going to choose the Savior’s way, the One who died for our sins to save us or the evil one’s way.
I think Jesus is trying to tell us to go with good or bad. when we die we will either go to heaven or hell. if we are not with God we are against him. Jesus wants us to be happy. Purgatory is not in between, Jesus reminds us how we have to make up are mind on who we need to be.
I think that Jesus might have said that he came to bring division and not peace because when we believe in him and love others, it might divide us from people who don’t want to do that or people who don’t like that. It still causes joy because when we love each other, we become happier. I think that the fire is the Holy Spirit and Jesus wants to set the world on fire so that the Holy Spirit will cover the Earth. When He does that, He will be getting rid of all of the bad and replacing it with good.
Today’s scripture taught me we have to choose good or bad So, God wants us to be back with Him forever. He desires a friendship with His Creation in which He is madly in love with.Christ, too, saw this wonderful glory of heaven while on His journey through His Passion and Death. He knew well it would all be worth it, He died for all of our sins not his but ours.He gave up his life for all of us.
Jesus says how he wises the world was already blazing. He doesn’t mean actual fire, he means the fire of the Holy Spirit. So let the fire of the Holy sprit set you ablaze, that you may spread the flame.
What stood out today to me was ” I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” That shows that God never gives up and is always working to make our world the best it can be. We all make our own desisions and at the end of the day, it is our desision. we can go one way or the other.
What stuck out to me is the quote that says “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing” and that made me think of the speaking of the tongues .
What Jesus is telling us in this scripture is that he will set the world on fire and the reason he says that is because he wants to take out the bad and make better things out of that burning so he is saying that when he sets the world on fire he will basically reset the whole world.
Jesus comes to burn us so that we all will be made new.
Jesus Is trying to say good people and bad don’t go to heaven. Holy people go to heaven and the two most holy people that has walked this earth is Jesus, and Mary.
What stood out today to me was : ” I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” That shows that God never gives up and is always working to make our world the best it can be. We all make our own decisions and at the end of the day, it is our decision. We can go one way or the other.
We can die to ourselves, our fallen human nature/flesh, worldly goods, and put on Christ to defeat the devil. I never took into consideration that we are sort of hurting Jesus every time we sin. We are the ones hurting Jesus because we let the devil hurt him. Jesus still loves us though.
“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” Jesus wants to set us on fire with the Holy Spirit, and He wants those who have been given the Holy Spirit to spread it like wildfire, until it has covered the entire Earth! Jesus wants to love us all even if we don’t love him back.
I think that Jesus means that he wants the world to be on fire with the fire being love and it also burning out all our sin so we can go to heaven
I think that Jesus was saying that when he died he set a fire, we are the wheat and the weeds are our sin, when he died he got rid of all our sin and saved us from hell and clensed us of sin. He died do make us better as children of him.
“I have come to set the earth on fire” I think it means that he is getting rid of all the sins and unholiness of the earth so that we may go to heaven with Jesus our saver
I think when he says the earth will be divided he means between heaven and hell. Jesus doesn’t want to force us into loving him so he lets us choose. he is such a great god that he won’t force us to do anything. He wants us to make our own choices He wants us to make the right choice and love him for eternity.
“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” Jesus wants to set us on fire with the Holy Spirit, and He wants those who have been given the Holy Spirit to spread it like wildfire, until it has covered the entire Earth! He wants to love us all even if we don’t love him back.
Jesus wants us to be joyful with him, and with other. we shouldn’t be fighting against each other because we are all made in gods imagine, when we fight the only person we are hurting is Jesus. and to be sent to heaven we have to believe in God. either you do believe in him or you don’t there is no in between. we are all trying to go to heaven so we need to help everyone and ourselves to do that.
The lord has come to division amongst us. To bring division between Heaven and Hell. He wants to bring us to Heaven and wants us not to be in Hell. Jesus loves and always will but we need to love him back.
Jesus tells us that he will set the word on fire. What this means is that he the one will set all of our weeds ( bad parts) on fire, just like in confession. then we are now fresh and then we restart. we should remember that Jesus died to save our sins, we shall rejoice and be glad because we are saved from him. we should be happy that we have a savior to forgive our sins. forgiveness is a great virtue and very difficult to give. but that makes God so powerful.
what stuck out to me was “i have come to set the world on fire, and now i wish it was already blazing”. God is coming to set all the bad on fire just like the farmers set the fields on fire to get rid of the weeds. God doesn’t want bad in the world he wants all good. Jesus wants us all to be joyful with him.
Jesus did not come to say that everybody will go to us about how to get to heaven. You can’t try to follow in the middle because there is no middle. There is good and evil and it is up to us to choose what path we follow. Jesus can’t force us to make it to heaven, he can only guide us.
The scripture taught me we have to choose good or bad. God wants us to be with Him forever. Jesus and God wants us to be happy. And to always love Him
Today Jesus is trying to tell us that he loves us so much he wants to go to heaven. Jesus came to earth not to bring peace but to bring division. From now a household of 5 will be divided.
Today’s scripture is about that God wants us to be back with Him forever. He desires a friendship with His Creation in which He is madly in love with. The joy we receive from a rightly ordered life and more importantly spending the rest of our lives in the glory of God is so powerful it looks beyond the hardship.
Jesus is saying that He is going to spread His word like a fire spreads, but He wishes that people would believe Him and not try to put out the fire.
What I think of when I hear “he will set the earth on fire” I think that means he will send the holy spirit down to us, since usually when we see fire we think of the holy spirit. However I think its really interesting that he said set the earth on fire and the meaning behind it.
Jesus is saying that there is not going to be peace, but two sides of it. There will be two vs three and three vs two. Everyone will be divided at some point and have different point of views. Even the good get separated.
When he says hes going to split everyone up he means that people will be split up into 2 groups, people who will go to heaven and people who will go to hell. Just as it says in Revelation. And when he talks about the fire he means the holy spirit.
Jesus wants us to hear his voice so that he can lead us in the right direction. And while that does mean doing the right thing it also means letting Him inspire us. When God thinks that we are ready, He ends up showing us something that gives us inspiration to push ourselves. Most of the time it has to do with our vocation, and it leads us to do something amazing.
“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!
You read that and you think, Whoa! What? Jesus wants to ignite us, yes, but with the holy spirit. That song, set a fire, is asking God to ignite the Holy spirit in us. He wants us to come alive in the Holy spirit. To be truly alive. Truly alive? what does that mean? To follow God, that is to be truly alive. To be totaly submitted to his will
What stuck out to me was when the Gospel said that it would be families against each other, and how it was saying that there would be families of 5, 2 against 3. I think what He is trying to tell us is that we need to choose whether we want to be on God’s team and believe in Him and fight for Him or if we want to be on our own side and fight against God. God has completely given us the freedom to choose whether we want to choose God or choose ourselves.
The fire in today’s gospel normally means the Holy Spirit but today it means love, joy, peace, and kindness. What Jesus is talking about is he wishes the gospel was already spread among everyone. He wishes we loved Him with all of our hearts and did not sin but that is why he came to Earth. He wished it was perfect but it’s not. Even through all the sin He still loves us.
“There is a baptism with which I must be baptized.” Jesus is 100% God and 100% human. Jesus is perfect, therefore he did not need to be baptized. Jesus was baptized anyway, because he loves us and wants to be a good example for us.
There is good and evil in this world and Jesus has come to separate us from evil because he loves us. That is the Holy Spirit coming to us in the form of fire. We have to choose and the Holy Spirit is here to help guide us, sent by God.
I think that Jesus means to “set the world on fire” He means that he will guide us with the holy spirit.
“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” When Jesus was sent down to us, the very first thing we did was try to kill him before he turned 2. If we hadn’t learned from that, 30 years later, we condemned him to death under the crime of blasphemy. You are not a blasphemer if you are who you truly say you are. We chose that son of God to die over Barabas, a thief, an assassin, a killer. We killed Jesus, and now, 2,000 years later, we still turn our heads from him, distracted by our own desires.
Jesus wants the world to ablaze, ending the sinful ways and having everyone join him in the right hand of God the Father all MIghty.
I feel like God is trying to tell us that we need to trust his plan that he has with us. What ever he is planning it will always be the right choice
Today Jesus is telling us that He didn’t create this world for peace but for division. I think He tells us this because we are divided by who believes in him and who doesn’t. Jesus loves everyone but he put this division here for a reason. Another thing He says is that He will set fire to the world. What I think He means by saying that he will set fire to the world is that His Holy Spirit will come down upon the whole world one day and we will all be saved.
In today´s scripture Gods talking about lighting the world on fire but he dosn´t mean literally he means by the holy spirit purifying our souls but for that to happen we have to give our selves to God FULLY not just partially you are either with God and want to be with him or you are not. There is no in between.
Jesus wants to set the world on fire and wishes it already was. He doesn’t want the world to actually burn, He wants the Holy Spirit upon us and He wants us to be connected with Him through the Holy Spirit. He wants us to have the fire of passion for holiness inside and outside of us. He wants us to do this so we can go to heaven and be with Him forever, even after time ceases to exist.
What i think when Jesus says he wants to set the world on fire is to help us start over from are sin with baptism and the holy spirit so that we can be holy like him
In this scripture reflection I learned that Jesus wants us baptized so much. And that He wants to set the world on fire with his love.
What Jesus is telling us in this scripture is that he will set the world on fire. The reason he says that is because he wants to take out the bad . Make better things out of that burning. So he is saying that when he sets the world on fire he will basically reset the whole world.
When is says “set the world on fire” it doesnt mean litterally, it means to spread the word just as a fire would spread across a field. Jesus wants us to spread the word of God like a wild fire so more people can have eternal life in his kingdom.
I think that this scripture is about how if you choose a life with god then will be with him for eternity but if you choose to stay away from him you will forever in hell which i think represents the division.
“I have come to set the earth on fire”
he didn’t mean for real, he meant our hearts. He would put so much love in our hearts that they would set fire
Jesus is saying that He is coming to set the world on fire, meaning He is comming to spread the Holy Spirit and will then turn most if not all of us to Him and God to be saved in the most Holy way possible. Another thing is the fact that Jesus said fire, meaning the Holy Spirit. Because if we remember back to the Pentecost the Holy Spirit came down on the apostles and Mary as tongues of fire. So that is why Jesus says He is going to set the world on fire.
I think Jesus is telling us that he is going to send the Holy Spirit and then proceed to “burn the Earth” which I interpreted that as meaning that he will cleanse the Earth of evil.
In the gospel today is Jesus is telling us he will set the world on fire and he can’t wait to do it. That is is first sentence and the sentence that stuck out to me the most. Jesus isn’t saying he can’t wait to see us all burn and die and stuff he means set the world on fire with his love and mercy with his second coming. we know that Jesus will burn the earth and take with him the good and the bad have them judged before him. He burns this earth so he can purify it with his love to make a new one with his new creation. We have to be ready for when he will come again.
It says Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. And God is saying that there is peace on earth and there should always be peace. He also says that he will set the world on fire which I think means that he wants us to spread his word.
Christianity is like a fire. it spreads vastly and quickly. we all know that Jesus is God. we either belive this is true or we don’t. there is no inbetween. Which side are you on?
“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” I think this humbles Jesus saying He expected better. He was thinking this place would be blazing with the Holy Spirit everywhere you turn but it isn’t and He will have to set the world on fire so it will be. We needed Jesus to set the world of fire or else it would have never been it would just be boring. We need the trinity and the world needs to be set on fire.
Getting up to Heaven is going to be hard. Not like hard physically, but hard mentally. With everything that is happening in the world right now it is exponentially hard to be a Christian. But we shouldn’t care about all of the people saying things or all of the people online saying Jesus is a bad person. God wants to be in a relationship with us, have a friendship with us for the rest of eternity. So we should embrace that and try our best to get to confession and not listen to the people that say otherwise.
The Lord says today that he has come to set fire to the earth. Not literally of course, but he means His love will cover us and cleanse us. Jesus so loved us that He gave up His life to bring us to heaven. Let us be like Jesus and love others.
Jesus has come to create division. I think that this means that he will separate the good from the evil and the good go to heaven and the bad go to hell. the sheep and the goats.
“I have come to set the earth on fire” This stuck out to me because Jesus doesn’t want to destroy the earth or kill the people on earth, but what He means is He wants the world to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and He wants us to be able to have eternal life with Him But in order to have eternal life we need to listen to Him and spread the Gospel.
The key to love is it requires a response. We have to answer God whenever he calls out to us and tries to talk to us through prayer. He loves us and he will love us no matter what.
i came to set the world on fire he said now when i heard this i was confused until i read this: a son against his father,
a mother against her daughter
and a daughter against her mother,
a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
what he means is we are all made direrent and beautifuly in his image but have the same worth to us in his eyes this is yet another reaon to stop comparing yourself to the girls and boys you see on the internet, flowers and sunsets are both eaqually beatifull but are nothing alike and they have the same worth. jesus loves you
He will save people and bring them to heaven when he says he will light the world on fire.
“I have come to set the world on fire” to me this means that we are called to spread the holy spirit.
“I have come to set the earth on fire,
and how I wish it were already blazing.” This stuck out to me because when i here the word fire in the bible it reminds me of the holy spirit. Fir also reminds me of a blazing heart that is enriched in Gods love.
When Jesus says ” I want to set the world on fire.” he means that he wants to continue to grow our make better humanity.
I think what God means here is that he will burn everything to find you, if you humble submit yourself to him.Jesus isn’t saying he can’t wait to see us all burn and die and stuff he means set the world on fire with his love and mercy with his second coming. we know that Jesus will burn the earth and take with him the good and the bad have them judged before him. He burns this earth so he can purify it with his love to make a new one with his new creation. We have to be ready for when he will come again. It shows what our priorities are, and to show the real reason why we believe in what we believe
the fire represents the holy spirit
Jesus said to his disciples:i have come to set the earth on fire and how I wish it were already blazing!
I think Jeusus is saying that he has come down from heaven with the holy spirits. And when he says i wish it were already blazing i think he trying to say that most/some of the people in the world dont go to mass and havent had any of the sacraments so he wished they all comes closer to him.
¨I have come to set the world on fire.¨ Jesus is trying to tell us that he wants to cleanse the earth thoroughly of the sorrow and sin and start a new beginning. Which makes room for good and happiness to grow and thrive on our planet.
Jesus is telling us what will happen and that not everyone is here for him. People will choose there own paths and a lot of the paths people choose are not good ones. There will be people against you and there will be people with you.
I have come to set the earth on fire this is what stuck out to me because God does not really want to burn the earth but to me it sounds kinda like new beginnings which is like what farmers do they burn their fields for a better and new crop the next season. In the new testament we reference fire as a dove. The dove is the holy spirit and the holy spirit leads us to new beginnings.
“I have come to set the world on fire” I think Jesus is trying to tell us that the holy spirit is going to come down on us
The fire is nothing to be afraid of, just like a farmer burns his field, God burns the old and sin out of us to make room for the light within us.
Jesus has died so the fear and sin will go away from the moment of His Resurrection he has broken the chains that have kept us to the Earth. God loves us and will be willing to do anything to save us.
God is telling us that he will set the world on fire for he loves us and died for us on the cross for us to stop turning against each other. The lord our god and our salvation he is gracious and merciful.
When he says the world will be divided, I think he means that there is a choice, and that choice is heaven or hell. He doesn’t want to force us to love him and choose him, he wants us to decide. He wants us to choose him and to have eternal life with him, but he loves us too much to force us into that, so he lets us choose.
What this scripter was telling me is that God wants us to choose good or bad.God wants us to come to Heaven so we can be with him forever and to do that we would have to pick good.God wants us in heaven with him because he derrieres a relationship with us and wants us with him forever.
I think Jesus is telling us that God will light the Earth on Fire. The fire is the Holy Spirit because God wants us to get closer to him not get closer to the devil.“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it is blazing!” this park struck out to be because God wants us to get closer to him.
Today’s scripture is talking about “setting the earth in fire” but not actually setting the earth on fire but bringing peace to the world and being kind to others
Jesus said in this scripture that he was going to set the world on fire. I think he is telling us to go with the good and leave the bad behind. Not just this, but he is telling us to never give up on him and to always love him.
Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?
“I have come to set the earth on fire.” He is telling us he came to Earth that way we could all believe in Him and love Him. We receive the “fire” at Baptism and Confirmation. We need to remember that and be a child of Christ and love Him. We cannot hide from Him. He will always find us even when we don’t want Him too.
Jesus is telling us that HE will set the world on fire, not to kill us but to renew us. He wants us to follow Him because with Him, there is no in between, there is no fence. It’s either your with God or the world.
I think Jesus is trying to tell us that God wants us to live with him in heaven but the people who do not choose him they will live in eternal damation. Either way God will love us no matter what.
“You are either with me or against me” This stuck out me because it says that you are either with or against Jesus, there is no in between. Jesus also talked about setting the world on fire, not literally, but with the holy spirit to cleanse and guide us.
I think Jesus is trying to tell us that we need to forgive others and not hold a grudge. We all need to forgive those who hurt us or sin against us. Jesus can’t always just, “Boom! Now you guys are good!” We have to own up and talk to the person ourselves.
Todays Gospel talked about how we have to chose good or bad. When Jesus said “I have come to set the world on fire” he was taking about when he would come again and save us from evil.
“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” This bible verse is actually one of my favorites in the entire bible. I love this verse because I feel like it tells us that God really did come into this world for a purpose. He came to set our hearts on fire with his love so that we may someday live forever in his love up in Heaven,
“This is hard to understand. Don’t forget the power of fire in our physical and spiritual world. In our physical world, many forests and homes have been destroyed due to fire. In our spiritual world at Pentecost the fire of the Holy Spirit came down on our first followers, the disciples, and today through us to build something new.” this stuck out to me because i agree it is hard for us to understand, but God will always lead the way.
