Prayer Prompt before reading JN 6:30-35: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.
“I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE; WHOEVER COMES TO ME WILL NEVER HUNGER, AND WHOEVER BELIEVES IN ME WILL NEVER THIRST.” JN 6:30-35
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Today, Jesus begins the most difficult teaching to believe. Many followers of Christ leave after this teaching. Jesus even asks the Apostles if they want to leave Him too, after this teaching. It is the teaching that Jesus is the bread of life. The consecrated host is not a symbol, but the Real Presence of Jesus Christ body, blood, soul, and divinity. Why is this teaching so difficult to believe?
God who is so powerful and almighty, the King of the Universe, puts Himself into a tiny piece of bread. Quite simply, God knew we were going to need food for our souls on this journey back to the Father. He had to hide Himself so we could approach Him so we would not disintegrate.
He chose the food that is the staple of most dinner tables, bread. God doesn’t make mistakes. He knows what He is doing. We are the ones who make the mistake of not truly believing. God is unchanging always ready to give Himself to us 100%. We must bring ourselves to Him.
One mistake we can make is making things in our life bigger than God. The Gospel message is one of detachment. Material goods are all much smaller and will not be taken where our souls are headed, a heavenly homeland, a spiritual realm. Take time today at Mass to really reflect on Jesus in the Eucharist.
Give Him His due by not receiving Him with a serious sin (selfishness-I don’t care I’m going to do it anyway) on your soul. Take time after communion to spend time in silence with Jesus who is truly present inside of you. ”I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” JN 6:35
Today’s challenge: Find a good book on the Eucharist at the Catholic book store. Jesus, Our Eucharistic Love is $5. Another new gem is 7 Secrets of the Eucharist by Vinny Flynn. Read it before you go to Mass or once a week. Never stop reading it to remind yourself of how much God loves you.
We can’t worship someone we don’t know. Go to daily Mass. Put Eucharistic Miracles web page on your favorites. Pope Francis has a Eucharistic Miracle from his diocese under investigation before he became pope. Check it out.
