“THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEARTS ARE FAR FROM ME; IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES HUMAN PRECEPTS.” MK 7:1-13
Humbly submit your will to God (thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Prayer Prompt before reading MK 7:1-13: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and God the Son are so that I may know who I am.
Jesus hits a heart string today. Is your heart truly set on God and His ways or worldly and selfish things that make gains for ourselves. This is the daily battle. The Pharisees were following traditions from the elders, human traditions, instead of Mosaic Law. Jesus is paving the way for the Gentile or non-Jews to be saved and the gates of heaven to be opened for all.
How often do we follow human traditions and opinions over God’s laws? How often do we worship material things when God is all powerful and ultimately in control. Our judgment will not depend on human opinion or material goods, it depends on how well we loved, living the ways set forth by Jesus.
We are called to be saints, holy, through repentance giving up our will to do God’s will. We in turn help others who He put in our lives and give all of the glory to God. We can give glory to God for all we have and all we accomplish (Stewardship) or we can take the glory because we worked hard and we deserve it. We also have to be careful how we worship God. God created right worship, the holy sacrifice of the Mass.
Our religion is not a set of rules to follow but a relationship with a person to fall in love with, Jesus. We must talk to Him. Tell Him how your day is going. Visit Him at Mass, in a church, in silence, or the Adoration chapel. See Him in each person we come in contact with.
Compassion (to suffer with), heart, mercy, joy, hope, pity on us, and love this is the heart of Jesus and the heart we must seek to be like Christ. None of these things can be bought only willed by our hearts out of love for God. Stop worrying about the things on the outside, the intention of your heart is most important. It is where God dwells and the Holy Spirit directs you to Truth, Jesus Christ.
Today’s challenge: Reflect on the intention of your heart. How much do you pay attention to the outside of yourself and others compared to the inside? Take time to sit down and have a conversation with someone instead of just saying hello and moving on.
Be a servant, be a saint today!
