Prayer Prompt before reading MK 6:45-52: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray well, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and who God the Son is so that I may know who I am.
“TAKE COURAGE, IT IS I, DO NOT BE AFRAID!” MK 6:45-52
Humbly submit your will to God (thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
1 Jn 4:11-18
In St. John’s letter today, he teaches us a lesson about true love. ”There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love.” Perfect love does not fear. When we are in a state of grace, we have no fear. When we remain in God’s love by following his commandments we have no serious sin, we have no fear. When we receive His grace in the sacraments (especially Catholic ER), we have no fear.
When we deny ourselves and put on Christ, treat others the way we want to be treated, put others first, and do works of mercy, we have no fear. Our love begins to grow more perfect and fear diminishes. We know where we are going if we die. Remain in God by loving more perfectly and fearing less. This brings what our heart desires, to be loved, no fear of being alone, a friendship with Jesus, which brings joy and peace.
Mk 6:45-52
Today’s sequence of events shows us how Christ works in our lives. First, the apostles have just started to follow Christ. They just witnessed the feeding of the 5,000 but did not understand the significance. Then, they wake in fear as Christ approaches them walking on water. Christ calms their fears “Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!”. Last, He got into the boat with them and they were completely astounded.
When we welcome Christ into our lives, our lives are going to be rocked. We are going to have fear, be terrified, doubt, not understand or be confused. Christ understands, He is always there waiting for us to come to Him saying, “Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!”. With Christ in our lives through grace and the guidance of His Holy Spirit, we will overcome our fears and doubt, our minds will become clear and our lives will be put into perspective. Then, we will be completely astounded and wonder why we did not repent and follow Christ sooner.
The joy and peace we attain will be overwhelming. We will want to share this Good News with all who are around us. Our love will be perfect with no fear and we will know exactly where we are going which will give us great hope, peace, comfort, and joy. Our hearts greatest desire will be fulfilled and we will stop searching in all the wrong places. We will be home. When God calls us home, He will not ask us how many times we were right or correct, but how open we were to His plan for our lives.
Today’s challenge: Love more perfectly, fear less. Remain in the state of grace. Go off to a mountain to pray. Welcome Christ into your life and be ready for your world to be rocked!
