BUT WHOEVER OBEYS AND TEACHES THESE COMMANDMENTS WILL BE CALLED GREATEST IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.” MT 5:17-19

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Prayer Prompt before reading MT 5:17-19: Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father and God the Son are so that I may know who I am.

Jesus reminds us today that the commandments carry some weight. When is the last time you did a good examination of conscience going through the 10 commandments? Each of us have our favorite sins. We know them well, but do these sins we commit habitually cause us to miss something else that might be leading us to those sins found in the other commandments.

Jesus boldly states, “Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” This comes right after the beatitudes, the way to true happiness (holiness) and gaining eternal life. He then gives us consequences if we don’t keep them.

Sin is its own consequence. Sin leads us to addiction, misery, and broken trust in relationships. There are serious consequences for sin and not following the commandments. Obedience is the first step to holiness and disobedience gave all humanity Original Sin. Basically, it boils down to selfishness and unselfishness. Sin is telling God we don’t care, period.

This leads all of us sinners to guilt, shame, and to carry heavy burdens. It is difficult to accept ourselves as sinners and to deal with the consequences. The Good News is that we have Someone who loves us so much He took the consequence of our sins and nailed them to a cross. This Cross loses its power when we stop asking for forgiveness.

If we keep the commandments, we will know Christ’s heart. Isn’t that the point of every Lent; get to know Christ’s heart better, more deeply. That should be the goal every day. When we get to know Jesus’s heart (which begins at the foot of the Cross), in His proclamation of the kingdom (Gospels), and especially the belief that He resurrected and all His Words are true, the absolute Truth, we will be ready to fight sin. We will not want to hurt Christ when we really get to know His heart.

His heart is full of sacrificial love. We were never worthy as sinners for a sinless Man to die for us. It would be one thing if we were just. St. Paul says, “He died for us as we were still sinners.” We have a God who is crazy in love with us. A radical love that even loves enemies and sinners who know they are sinning. Why? God is love straight through-Bishop Barron

This love is compassion (to suffer with), mercy (as many do overs as we need), and forgiveness (unlimited). So, not out of fear but out of love we will start to turn from our selfish ways and follow these commandments that bring us joy. Obedience requires sacrifice and suffering. Suffering brings joy.

We we born into a battlefield not a picnic field. We have to stop thinking things will get easier or God will take away the pain and suffering. When we give ourselves to God, the battle begins. God is the one who gives us what we need for the battle and the rewards for fighting are eternal!

The Devil puts in our minds that God is trying to take away our fun by following His commandments. These commands are to protect us from the Devil and misery. We need to stop holding on to the things that make us miserable. So, where do we start seeing the commandments for what they truly are?

Pray by just talking to Christ and asking Him for His grace to help you get to know His heart better. Ask Him to give you the grace to love more and the results will be sinning less and being selfless. Be a servant! Become a saint! “But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.” MT 5:17-19

Today’s challenge: Seek Christ’s heart! Be silent and listen instead of talking during prayer. Reflect on Jesus’s message and apply it in one way each day.

Be a servant, be a saint today!

What Jesus says is that when the time comes, not a single thing you did in your life will be overlooked. Everything, both the good and the bad, is taken into consideration. Jesus gave us the commandments as a blueprint for life. They show us what to do, and how to follow God’s instructions. We are all called to be followers of Christ, and we should follow God in all of His commands.

I think that God is trying to tell us that it can be hard sometimes in life and he will help you through it no matter what time it is in your life you just need to go and ask him for help and he will help you. That you need to follow the commandments because if you dnt it can hurt your spiritual life.

the gospel talks about how if we become kings on earth we will not be kings in heaven but if we love and care for those and do want to be a king we will become kings in heaven. We shall not break the commandments for we want to receive and to go to heaven for we are the daughters and sons of god.

I think that Jesus is trying to shed light on the fact that there will always be people who will try to make you do bad and there will always be people who will encourage you to do good. This means that we need to pick who we are friends with and not let temptation get the best of us. We need to listen to the people who are encouraging us to to good because they know what is best for us.

Sin. What is Sin? Sin is an action or thought or anything that can lead to you making a bad choice, doing a bad action, or thinking bad thoughts. Sin drags you away from God and that’s not what us Catholics want to happen. We strive to get closer to God through whatever we can and whenever we can do that. God is out antidote, trust him

Sinning is a hard thing, there is always the desire to sin and we can’t help it. That is why we have to turn to God first, so he can heal us inside out. When we sin it has a hold on us, we know we shouldn’t but we still do because the devil knows he can manipulate us and make us think he is the right decision when deep down we know it’s God. The devil knows how to get under our skin and make us sin and when we think we can’t just stop we always go back to the same sin and do it again because we need to turn to God. You can’t just stop a habit that you have been doing your whole life you need to heal it slowly.

Todays gospel is about how the 10 commandments are important for Jesus said “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets I have come not to abolish but to fulfill”. This is Jesus telling us that he is here to be a perfect example of the 10 commandments and not someone who will get rid of them.

Today Jesus talks about how the prophets are right and that really he is fulfilling the laws of the prophets but he is here to confirm that they are good and true laws. the he goes on to say that if you break one of the least of these commandments you will be called the least of heaven. This sticks out to me because we have always been taught that God sees all sin the same. So even if you were to kill someone and then you repented later really are sorry God will forgive you in the same way that he will forgive you of not resting on the lords day or coveting someone else’s goods. Then he goes again and says that if you follow all of these you will be called greatest. So just breaking one commandment and not caring could be the difference of eternity with him and eternity without him.

In the scripture it says that we need to get to know God’s heart better. To me this stands out because it shows that all of us have a goal in mind, but so does God and we have to learn to understand Him and how He lives and how He teaches us to live in Him. God is love and if we understand that and learn that then that will make us better in every way possible.

Something that I got out of this is that we need to respect God, and what he tells us to do more. God sent his son to come down to earth, and tell us what to do with our life, yet we still do not respect and think of him before we do anything and we need to start doing that. God has laid everything down here for us, and all that we have to is just listen to what he is trying to tell us.

Jesus is saying that he isn’t here to be a prophet, he is here to fulfill the scriptures. Jesus coming to save us wasn’t his plan his plan was to bring heaven onto earth. Because of his death, we now have churches. We believe that he himself will make us full again, and that we can be saved from the fires of Hell. ” until heaven and earth have passed away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of the letter will pass from the law”. Jesus says that until every soul has been saved, and everyone is his. All things will be taken place. Jesus wants this to be fulfilled. Once everybody has him living in him. We are saved, and we are in a place of forgiveness. A place where we can live again. That is home. Jesus wants us home. That’s all he ever wanted. Us to be with him.

When we sin we feel the guilt of the sin, which hopefully we do. When we sin we know what we are doing and do it anyway going against God and the commandments. All of us are sinners even if we try to be the best people we can be,we are all still sinners. God gave us the commandments for a reason not just to have them but to follow them and when we do break them we feel the guilt and we have confession so God can forgive us.

But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.” I like this line because its telling us that people who lead sinners while being a sinner they will be least in Heaven. Even though they sin, they are still in the Kingdom. While those who obey and teach the commandments, they are higher and still in Heaven, even with the sinners. I think this shows how forgiving God is.

He loves us more than anything and even though at times it may not feel like it or you may not feel His presence, but He is there any He will always be there forever. God did so much for us just to be here today and we never really said thank you for everything. Be an example of God and be a follower of Him too. The more you follow Him the closer you are to Him, spread the Word and be a kind person. It doesn’t hurt to be kind, but it can hurt to be mean. In this Gospel, I believe Jesus is trying to show us that the Commandments aren’t rules they are the directions to live life to the fullest. So when he says “I CAME NOT TO ABOLISH BUT TO FULFILL” it shows that he isn’t here to break the law or show how everyone else is wrong in the way of life. He came down because he wanted to be a role model for us. This shows how much he loves us and cares for us. He came down for YOU. He actually gave us the way of life in the commandments. As long as we live by these commandments we will live life to the fullest and be satisfied by God’s grace forever.

I think Jesus is telling us that he is the way to eternal life. The prophets foretold us of Jesus being our savior, so in fulfilling the prophesies Heaven is opened for us. God did not create the commandments to revoke us of our freedoms and pleasures. In truth, it is quite on the contrary. In giving us these commandments he gives us freedom, freedom from sin and the brokenness of the world. If there were no rules and people could do whatever they wanted to, there would be no pleasure because the sin would take over.

I think Jesus is trying to say that he is not here to be a prophet like Elijah and them, but to fulfill the prophecy that the Lord has bestowed on the earth. The prophecy that stated there would be a child born of a virgin who would save the world, but only few have realized what he actually did. Most people think “All he did was die on a cross for our sins” but it’s so much more! He died on that cross because he loved us, he knew it was going to happen and he still did it from how much love he has for us. He wants us to go to heaven, THAT’S why he died for us. He didn’t die just for our sins. He died for his love for us and each other. He died because he wants to see us in heaven and the only possible way he could do that was to die on the cross for our sins and for the world and for his Father.

The Lord Told me today that he came to fulfill his promise to show us who he really is that he is true. He wants us to go and spread the commandments because the more we use or follow the commands the more others will too. The people you are around will start to reflect your kindness or your right decisions. So if you think being unkind or unjust wont make an impact it will. If you hang out with people and you do bad things eventually that person hanging out with you will grow unjust or unkind. So we have to be kind and just no matter what because we are a cause and that cause makes an effect.

The message I got from today;s gospel is that we need to be role models to everyone even if it’s not the societal norm. A lot of things in today’s world have been normalized and accepted as the “correct” thing to do, even if it’s not. Jesus says that whoever follows the commandments and teaches others to do so will be the greatest in Heaven. If you truly know what you did was wrong you should confess to him if not/ you didn’t know it was bad, and you just figured out it doesn’t mean you get a free pass, you still have to confess it/ repent for it, no sin is a free pass.

The Good News is that we have Someone who loves us so much He took the consequence of our sins and nailed them to a cross. This Cross loses its power when we stop asking for forgiveness.”

When it comes to temptation we have a choice… to follow God or to listen to the devil, and if we follow God we will have a good life we will still have our favorite sin but we wont be doing it as much as we would if we where listing to satan/devil.
If we do listen to satan then there will be really bad consequences and Jesus will be hurt and nailed to the cross. But if we listen and follow our Lord Jesus Christ then we wont have consequences we will have a better life and we wont hurt him or nail him to the cross again

The commandments keep us away from sin and misery, when you choose not to follow the commandments and choose to sin God will still be there and help you find your way back to him.

Sometimes, we get in our heads that the commandments are there to take away our fun and we can only obey them and if we don’t, we’re going straight to hell. This is not true. The commandments are there to guide us in the faith and bring us closer to God everyday. It’s okay if you mess up a couple times, God will still love you, but you need to repent for them.

The way to true happiness is as close as you make it. You can gain eternal life if you try but if you do fail (which you will) you don’t give. You keep trying to get there.

Everyone, no matter the type of person, good or evil, everybody has an impact on us. Wether its positive or negative they all inspire us sometimes in unconscious ways. The ones who drive us in a negative way often leads us to the road of sin. Sin is our own choice in who we take after and what we want to do for ourselves as a person. God reminds us to follow the leader that sets the good example of our time. Jesus already sets a good example for us but for the people in our time it is super easy to fall into sin.

I thought it was interesting how Mr. Geortz called sin itself a consequence because I’ve always thought of sin as the action or choice that leads to consequence. But if you think about it, Geortz’s explanation does make sense. When we commit a sin, we are automatically creating a consequence for ourselves and we can’t really avoid it, the two go hand in hand. It’s like how every action has an equal and opposite reaction, except in this case, the action is the sin and the consequence is the reaction. You can’t have one without the other. So when we choose to do something wrong, that choice in of itself can lead to more wrong, which is one of the reasons that sin is to be avoided at all costs.

He asks us for permission to fulfill us when His Father gave us the commandments. They are not a need, but a want from us when we follow them. We don’t NEED to follow the commandments for God to love us, He loves us anyway. But when we follow the rules, we are simply giving Him our ‘yes’ to fill us with joy, peace, and love.

I think what God is telling us today in the Good News is that the Commandments are the rudimentary principles that help us rejoice in God and others. They are the model of what you should and should not do. Now, that is to not say that they restrict us from doing things we want to do, it is just that God is trying to protect us. He is a loving Father who wants to protect his children from sin and temptation. We must follow the law that God had given to us in two stone tablets and be called “the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.” When we sin, that hurts our relationship with God, but we mustn’t falter. We must confess our sins with deep sincerity and forgive others and continue the journey with our cross. Sin has an impact on us, and when we go to Heaven, they will be seen. Do not hide everything that you do, for one day they may be seen by God. We must follow the law of the Commandments and rejoice in the LORD.

Today’s gospel is talking about the comandments and how we should use them they are not rules but they are important because we should follow them. Then we will have a better life by believing in yourself and believing in God our Lord and Savoir. It also says that when we follow someone’s example even if they are doing something bad or something good we will start following what they do. That’s why we should set an example and be a good role model for anyone to help others be closer to God or to just start having a better and happier life. Have an amazing rest of your day!! God Loves you so much!! God Bless!!

I think that the gospel is trying to tell us is that God wants us to go to heaven. All of the challenges we face is the devil trying to trick us. Jesus set the ten commandments as rules for us to follow in order to get to heaven. He loves us and he wants us to go to heaven but we can’t if we don’t follow the ten commandments.
