Humbly submit your will to God and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The disciples approached Jesus and said,
“Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?”
He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said,
“Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children,
you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever becomes humble like this child
is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones,
for I say to you that their angels in heaven
always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.
What is your opinion?
If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray,
will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills
and go in search of the stray?
And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it
than over the ninety-nine that did not stray.
In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father
that one of these little ones be lost.”  MT 18:1-5, 10, 12-14

Who is the greatest in the kingdom?  I would think Jesus would have said an adult who has spent a long life trying to be open to God’s grace and do good deeds for others.  Instead, Jesus teaches us that a child is the greatest in the kingdom.  This is confusing because most of us are blessed to live to adulthood.  Symbolically, Jesus is teaching us (and hints on this in the next verse) to be humble and innocent.  As a child, we didn’t worry about things so much because we trusted that our parents would take care of us.  We trusted, we believed, we were innocent.  As an adult, trust becomes difficult because life is tough, hard decisions have to be made, tragedy strikes.  We lose faith, trust less, believe less or we turn to God and open ourselves to Him and try to trust more, strengthen our faith, and believe more.  We lose innocence and then try to get back to it.  With access to almost anything, if not guarded, on the Internet kids are losing their innocence in 3rd grade.  We must protect them, ““See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”  As you grow older, we try to regain our innocence, be more pure, lust less, and remember what matters most.  Life is interesting.  God knows what He is doing.  Trust in Him and become innocent like you were when you were a child.  Laugh and don’t worry like you are a kid again, let God take care of the rest!  Then, amazingly you will be one of the greatest in the kingdom!
Second, Jesus says God will go to whatever extreme it takes to return one of our souls when it goes astray.  My soul has strayed many times.  God is calling you back to Him with great force.  Don’t allow the devil to enter your mind and tell you that you are too bad to go to Church, there is not point in confession you are still committing the same mistakes, or you are not holy enough.  The Devil swoops in in your weakest moments.  God and the angels are fighting with fury for your return.  Remember, God wants you to return to Him in heaven more than you do yourself.  Give God a chance!

Today’s challenge: Become innocent again, laugh, don’t worry!  If your soul has strayed, go to confession and come back to God.
