The Evangelist, John, makes a great point in the first reading about who Jesus is and who He is not.
“Who is the liar?
Whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ.
Whoever denies the Father and the Son, this is the antichrist.” 1 Jn 2:22-28

And whoever accepts Jesus Christ over every other religious leader, parents, siblings, famous human being in history or famous pop artist or model today receives (drum roll please….) “And this is the promise that he made us: eternal life.” 1 Jn 2:22-28

The greatest liar is the Devil.  We must know our opponent to fight and gain eternal life.  The one who tells us that being religious and spiritual takes away our fun.  This is the first temptation in the garden of Eden.
 1
Now the snake was the most cunning* of all the wild animals that the LORD God had made. He asked the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You shall not eat from any of the trees in the garden’?”
2
The woman answered the snake: “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden;
3
a it is only about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden that God said, ‘You shall not eat it or even touch it, or else you will die.’”
4
But the snake said to the woman: “You certainly will not die!
5
God knows well that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, who know* good and evil.”
Gen 3:1-5
We try to be like gods when we do NOT listen to the Truth-Jesus Christ.  When we do NOT die to ourselves and put on Christ.  When we put more time and effort into worldly things (electronics, not helping at home, school, community).  But, most importantly above all when we do NOT believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Savior of the world, and we do not dedicate our lives to Him.  Do not allow the liar to tempt you and influence your thinking.  Obey God by following the 10 commandments and dedicate yourself to loving Jesus through prayer, worship at Mass, receiving the Sacraments, reading the Scriptures and learning about the saints!

Dedicate yourselves to Christ in the New Year!  The most sure path to do so is through Mary (Mother of God, Jan. 1st) and our greatest prayer-the Mass!
Pope Francis has dedicated the New Year as the Year of the Consecrated Life!  Pray for all of those who have dedicated themselves totally and completely to Christ through consecrated life.  Thank a sister, brother, monk, or nun by writing to them or giving them a card at school.
Christian YOLO!
