Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary.

Jesus told his disciples a parable:
“Can a blind person guide a blind person?
Will not both fall into a pit?
No disciple is superior to the teacher;
but when fully trained,
every disciple will be like his teacher.
Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye,
but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?
How can you say to your brother,
‘Brother, let me remove that splinter in your eye,’
when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye? You hypocrite!  Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly
to remove the splinter in your brother’s eye.” LK 6:38-42

Today, Jesus uses a parable to teach us about a fault that many of us have, judging others. I find myself judging others I don’t know very quickly. I think it is part of our defense mechanism to keep ourselves safe. Sadly, I find myself judging those closest to me the harshest. I found that the Devil is trying to separate my marriage, my relationship with my kids, and my relationship with my students/coworkers/others. Judging is easy, accepting ones limitations and not judging others is hard. I have found through patience, not judging, giving others the benefit of the doubt, and having compassion for others who I meet has led me to understand that each person is struggling with sin and is suffering something. This has taught me to love better and be more free.

I have never met someone who doesn’t struggle with sin or suffer, unless they are lying to themselves. What helps me the most is realizing we have one Creator and one Savior who died for all. I am a sinner and I have suffering in my life, why would I ever judge another. It festers worry, anxiety, jealousy, malice, temptations, and makes us more prideful and less humble. God calls us to love one another. Relationships are hard and must be worked on. It is hard not to judge someone, but a requirement of a disciple of Christ. Jesus never said it would be easy, just rewarding.

Today’s challenge: Take time to get to know someone better at school, work, and especially in your own family. When you find yourself judging someone, say a Hail Mary. Stop yourself and look at them with the eyes of Christ.
