“LEAVE HER ALONE. LET HER KEEP THIS FOR THE DAY OF MY BURIAL. YOU ALWAYS HAVE THE POOR WITH YOU, BUT YOU DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE ME.” JN 12:1-11

Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

Mary, Martha, and Lazarus are Jesus’s best friends. Jesus decides to spend some of His last days with those closest to Him while on earth. During this Holy Week, take time to read the Passion again and find a book that explains it. It is wise also to read about what happened to a victim of Roman crucifixion, so we can see what Christ endured for our sins. Jesus, the God Man is about to leave this earth and fulfill His mission of dying for our sins and most importantly resurrecting. Before our death, we will want to leave our best advice behind to our family members. Jesus is no exception. Some of His greatest teachings come from Holy Week and His family is all of humanity.

His Words are very important and should be taken to heart. Write them down and keep them some place to reread throughout the year, not just Lent. Fast every Friday throughout the year to remember this Holy Week, especially Good Friday (This is required for all Catholics, not optional). Do the Stations of the Cross with great devotion every Friday throughout the year to remember Christ’s Passion and Death. Go to Mass every Sunday, it is a mini-Easter to remember Christ’s resurrection. Go to Mass every day if possible to allow God to bring you back to the foot of the Cross; what was present in history is now present in mystery. Be transformed by Jesus in the Eucharist.

Find a book on the Passion of Christ and read it every Friday throughout the year. If you study and gain knowledge of Christ and His Passion, you will begin to understand His love for you. When you begin to understand His love for you, you will desire to love Him back more than anything in this world. Then, you will start fighting sin and desire a resolute heart. Your eyes will always be set on heaven and not things of the earth. You will desire to pray without ceasing. The saints were all transformed at the foot of the cross. Allow God to love you, it is His greatest desire. How do we know? He gave up His life for each of us, total self-sacrifice. We, in turn, give up our lives for others.

In Peter Kreeft’s book “Jesus Shock”, he talks about adoration. He uses today’s Gospel as defining adoration. Mary was a prostitute and had earned her money giving her body to men. She didn’t care as much about the acts, but the money so she could have more stuff. When she repents and follows Jesus, she recognizes “stuff” doesn’t matter. She gives up an entire year’s wages to buy the perfume she pours on Jesus. She adores Jesus with her whole self and holds nothing back with her material goods. At the sight of true adoration, Kreeft says Judas cannot take it. This is when the devil enters his heart and he goes to betray Jesus. When we see someone give themselves up totally and completely to do what they were made for, adore their God, we either follow or run. Jesus forces us to make a decision.

Are you really all in with Jesus? I have work to do, too. May we continue to strive to be more like Mary and give all! This Holy Week is a good time to commit, repent, and strive even harder.

Today’s challenge: Pray. Ask Jesus to reveal His heart to you during this Holy Week. Fast, suffer, offer your suffering up with Christ’s suffering, prepare for joy. Reread the Passion in the Scriptures each day this week and reflect on it, put yourself into the Passion with Christ. What is dominating your thoughts? Give it to Jesus this week and trust that He will take care of it.

This is saying that if we are doing something good (like giving to the poor) but we are doing it for our own good, it is as if we were not doing any good in the eyes of God.

“LEAVE HER ALONE. LET HER KEEP THIS FOR THE DAY OF MY BURIAL. YOU ALWAYS HAVE THE POOR WITH YOU, BUT YOU DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE ME.” JN 12:1-11. Something that stood out to me about this was that Jesus is saying that his disciples will always help the poor, but he will not be helping them.

I think this scripture is just a big reminder to keep your devotion too Christ strong, like praying rosaries or doing the stations of the cross at home with family. Also reminding us to keep Jesus in our heart and learn to love like him.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus is spending His last days with His best friends. Judas is greedy and wants Martha to sell the fragrance instead of anointing Jesus’s feet. Jesus told Judas that he will always have the poor with Him, but won’t have Jesus. I feel like in this story, Satan was trying to manipulate Martha through Judas. We need to try to keep Satan out, and focus on Jesus. We need to try to not be tempted by the devil, and if we aren’t tempted, Jesus will be right next to us through the whole thing.

Jesus forces us to make a decision.” This stood out to me because I never thought about it this way but it makes sense. Like, for example, if someone who is never Catholic sees someone doing demonic things they will either join in and start worshiping the wrong person/thing or not do anything because they do not know God and do not strive to live for him. But if someone who is Catholic was in this situation it would be morally right to try and stop them without violence.

“Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days’ wages
and given to the poor?” He said this not because he cared about the poor
but because he was a thief and held the money bag
and used to steal the contributions.”
This part stuck out to me the most due to it telling people that not everyone who seems like they care, actually cares. All Judas wanted was the money, the popularity from Jesus. But we should want none of that, we should want love, respect, ect from him. We shouldn’t be selfish, arrogant, ect. If you are maybe you just have the wrong people around you, the wrong friends. Friends shouldn’t push you to do anything you don’t want to do. Friends shouldn’t be fake, you shouldn’t be fake. You should care about others, and not your selfish desires. if you need help with that, go pray to God, he is and will always be there for you. Go talk to him. there is no excuse for you not to talk to him. He is always there to help, to listen, to talk. There is no excuse for acting like you are.

Lent is one of the hardest times of the year if you give up something that is taking you away from God. It is very hard to just give up something. but sometimes we forget and don’t ask God to help us in doing the right thing and fasting from it. God will always help us if we ask him to help us.

Jesus was extremely nervous in His last week before he was to be crucified because He knew all along that He was going to die. He was even sweating blood in the garden of Gethsemane, but in all of His suffering, He knew to look to God for help. This is how we should act when we find ourselves in a tough situation. Always trusting in God and His ultimate power is how we can live how God wanted us to.

Today’s Gospel talks about how Mary anointed Jesus’ feet and dried them with her hair. This is an act of kindness and respect toward Jesus. Mary loved Jesus so she followed him, she believed in the Lord, so she followed him, and to thank him, she anointed Jesus’ feet.
Judas on the other side, wanted money. He wanted to steal the money that would have been used for the oil so he asked her why it was not sold. Jesus replied by telling him that she should keep it until Jesus’ burial. All Judas wanted was money, so that’s why he gave Jesus to the Romans, that’s why he betrayed Jesus.
Money can make people very greedy. That’s why St. Francis decided to live a life of poverty. His father was very greedy and rich and Francis decided he did not wanna be so he gave up his life to poverty.

Jesus defends Mary, saying the oil was meant for his burial day. He shows that this is a critical, singular moment, unlike the ongoing opportunity to care for the poor. It shows Jesus preparing for his burial, accepting adoration. Jesus is preparing for the day he is crucified. “Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial.
You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.” This is foreshadowing that soon he will be gone.

In today’s scripture reading, It really stuck out to me because it says that Jesus would spend time with Lazarus, Mary, and Martha (His best friends) in his days before his death. Jesus died on the cross for you, he is about to leave this earth and fulfill his mission to save us from our sins and be able to resurrect from the dead. Before our death, we will want to leave our best advice behind our family members. He did this he gave his teachings as our advice to help us grow closer to him. His Words are very important and should be taken to heart. We have lent ourselves to receive Jesus on Easter. This is why we should fast, pray, give, go to stations of the cross, fast from meat on Fridays, and give something up for 40 days. Your eyes will always be set on heaven and not things of the earth. You will desire to pray without ceasing. This time helps us grow closer to the Lord and helps us to be able to realize that God is the most important thing in this world, not money, phones, and any other object that distracts us and pulls us away from the Lord because God is everything we need. Have a good rest of your day!!! God loves you he died for your sins and he will never stop loving you!!! God Bless!! Viva Cristo Rey!!!

In today’s Gospel, Mary of Bethany anointed Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume oil. The smell of the oil filled the house. Judas said it was a “waste” even though it really wasn’t. God defended Mary of Bethany because He knew that Judas was wrong and Mary was right to use the perfume oil. God showed His love to Mary and defended her. Jesus will always defend us no matter what as long as it is for a good reason.

In this Gospel Jesus is saying that he will not always be with us, so it is okay for Mary to use expensive oils on him because it is her way of praising him. We should praise and glorify Jesus because even though he is with us in our hearts he is not with us as a living being anymore. Jesus was human and this Gospel proved it because on his last days he is with his friends, enjoying the last bit of time he has with them.

Six days before Passover, Jesus visited his friend Lazarus in Bethany, where Mary honored him by pouring perfume on his feet. Judas complained that the oil should have been sold to help the poor, though he really just wanted the money for himself. Jesus defended Mary, telling everyone to let her be since she was preparing him for his coming burial. Meanwhile, a huge crowd gathered to see Jesus and Lazarus, leading the religious leaders to plot to kill Lazarus because so many people were starting to believe in Jesus.

Judas gets very angry about not selling the expensive oil and giving it to the poor, but he never cared about the poor he only cared about himself. He was angry because he wanted to steal some of the money for himself. Being selfish is human nature that we should all stay away from. Being selfish leaves us no room to help others. Being able to do something for others and seeing that it helped them is a different kind of joy than anything else. You can’t experience that joy by just doing things for yourself, so unlike Judas we should be selfless and give to others and help them.

Sometimes we feel like Jesus and God aren’t really doing us any favors, so we feel like its the right idea to turn our backs to him, when in reality, it’s the opposite. We need to move CLOSER to Jesus. We need to keep our backs turned TOWARDS him so that we can hear him call our name.

In today’s gospel Jesus predicts his death once again. He also tells Judas that he will not always have him always. Its telling me that we will always have time to care for the poor but we won’t have forever to live life like God intended. Life starts and ends so choose to side with God and not Satan

Today martha she did was the correct thing to do she washed jesus feet and was with him she loved and adored him because he is God She did what we should all do. also something that stuck out was The large crowd of the Jews found out that he was there and came, not only because of him, but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. And the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus too, because many of the Jews were turning away and believing in Jesus because of him. We all have to believe in Jesus

This Gospel tells me to prioritize Jesus. We have to put Him over everything even the poor. It tells us to always take care of Jesus like we would the poor and to always love Him.

I feel like what I was spoken to when I read this is that Jesus died for us and we should realize what he did for us and what he had to go through for us and yet we kinda forget about or like we have heard it so much it has almost like lost its meaning but I feel like what I was told when I was reading this is that we should pay attention and realize what he did for us and keep it in our life when we are doing everyday things. Another thing I was told is that we should fast every Friday for him dying on the cross so we can keep Jesus in our life and make sure he is in our life and not forget him so we can remind ourselves that Jesus is in our life and that he loves us and died for us.

“Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.“Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” This stuck out to me because Judas was so focused on how the money could have been given to the poor he wasn’t able to see the purity and sincerity in her adoration of Jesus. I feel as if this happens often in present day as well.

In today’s gospel, the message I got was that I should have a resolute heart set on God. We can do this by giving up ourselves for others just how Jesus gave himself up for all of us.

What I got out of today’s Gospel is that we must prepare for holy week. We must be like Mary in the Gospel where she cleans Jesus feet and anoints them and that shows we must be like her and fall to Jesus and give him our life.

This Gospel is telling me that we need to cherish the time we have because unlike Jesus we don’t know when we will die and even though that can be scary we should let it bring us closer to God and come to peace with it.

Today, this scripture tells us we should go to church and celebrate Christ. His words are important and should be taken to heart. He is our Savior who loves us. We should love us like he does love us. But some of us dont. To prove his love and take all of the sins on his shoulders, he took up the cross.

Todays Gospel tells us that although we always have Jesus, we also have others and we can depend and grow with them. We should always have pure intentions in everything that we do and we should stick with a good crowd. We should surround ourselves with good influences.

“You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.”
This part stood out to me, I think because it’s kind of like Jesus telling us that we will always have little things like money to distract us from the greater good. We however, will not always “have” Jesus if we lose our way. Sure, He is always there for you but it takes a lot more struggle to get back to something good than it does to lose it. We often put little things in front of God and our religion, whether you were planning on prayer but then your friend invited you out and you lost track of time talking to them on the phone hours before you needed to leave, or your favorite singer released a new album and you were about to head to Mass but decided to go later when you know you’ll be tired and disassociating throughout the Gospel. It’s just the little things like this that takes away our want to pray when you fill your mind with hours of other things to do.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus goes to Bethany to visit Lazarus. He gets anointed with costly oil. Judas says that the oil should be for the poor, as a cover up of his betrayal. Jesus then says to leave her alone and to let her keep it for His burial. Then a lot of Jews show up for not only him, but also Lazarus.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells Judas that the oil that Mary anointed his feet with shall be used to be buried with him. He also said that “You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.” There will always be people struggling and in poverty and there is no way to stop it unless we help them. We also will not always have Jesus here on earth with us, so we should cherish every moment we get with him when he comes to save us.

In today’s gospel Jesus is telling us that the poor represent Christ. We never have to physically care for Jesus, but we must care for those who are needy because when we help them we help Christ. The message of “Whatever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me.” MT 25:40 from the judgement of nations recurs in this passage. Jesus will be in heaven therefore we cannot anoint his feet right now. Instead, we can care for those in this world, show our love to all those around us not just the poor but ALL of our neighbors.

What this Gospel is telling me today is to spend time with God and thank him for all He has done. Jesus foreshadows that He will pass from Earth and is spending time with his best friends. His death saved us from sin and evil. Adoration builds a great connection between you and God. He is always here with us. How can you go to a place that you barely know? Prayer and adoration help us discover not only was God is to us, but what we are to God and that sends us forth into the world.

What stuck out was when Jesus said you wont always have me but you will have the poor. Judas only cares about the money and tries to make himself look good like he was going to help the poor with that. We can’t hide ourselves and make it look good because God knows. He could help people without the money. So Jesus kind of throws his words back at him you will always have the poor you don’t need this fragrance.

Judas wants to steal some of the money when the oil would be sold for himself. we can be selfish and greedy like him too, but Jesus defends Mary and tells Judas that the oil will be used for His burial. When Jesus raised Lazarus up, everyone believed in Jesus and turned away from the chief priest. Now, the chief priest wants to kill Lazarus

in today’s gospel a poor woman is anointing Jesus’ feet with oil. That oil could have helped her get out of poverty but instead she chose to use it on our Lord. this shows how much of a devotion she has to Jesus and she sets an example for us. we must learn to worship God like she does and give up the fine things in our life.

what I got from todays gospel was a reference in my head. other people may do things for God and give charity to others and we may sit back and say “well why didn’t you do this?”, “why didn’t you do that” and we may act as if we care about those things but we do not. still God says to us “leave them alone, you will always have ____ but you will not always have me” that’s important because it goes back to our morals of Jesus being our creator and how he should be the center of our life. #christianYODO

but we need to detach our selves to these things that cause us to turn away from God we need to be holy and without blemish especialy on holy week I don’t think Jesus came for us to say we have better things to do and all you do is play games on your phone he will forgive you if you trust and believe in the power of his name rejoice in him that we can be with the father 1 day and be the LIGHT OF THE WORLD!!!

This stook out to me because Jesus is saying that sure you might be doing a good thing but you dont really care for these people and you are just going through the motions. Something ele that stook out to me is this “The large crowd of the Jews found out that he was there and came, not only because of him, but also to see Lazarus”. This stook out to me because it showed that the Jews were believing in the works of Jesus.

The part of this Gospel that stuck out to me was when it says, “and Martha served.” The reason this stuck out to me was that it is a simple part of the Gospel that is easy to over look, but it is like when people help us and we may over look it. If we do spend time to notice it can make our day.

Judas was only focused on the money and tried to make it seem like he was helping the poor. We can’t pretend or make ourselves look good because God sees the truth. Jesus points out that the poor will always be around, but this special act of love was different
