In today’s Gospel, Jesus casts out a demon. What always amazes me when I reflect on these Gospels is how the demons recognize Jesus. He has power over them. Yet so many people still do not believe in Jesus. If demons know Him, why do we not know Him. Dr. John Wood wrote a book called, Ordinary Lives Extraordinary Mission. In his 5 steps to becoming a saint, he writes that we must know the enemy to conquer the enemy. Coaches do this before every game to beat their opponent. So, who is the enemy and why does he want to defeat us? Lucifer was the most powerful angel God created. God gave all of His angels free will. Lucifer used his for bad and wanted God’s power. He took a third of the angels and lost to St. Michael who cast him out of heaven forever. Today, he wants to destroy all humans and is always trying to tempt us. We must fight for Christ with His grace (sacraments, good deeds, prayer). Say the prayer to St. Michael, and make a stand against the devil in your life!
