Prayer Prompt before reading JN 12:24-26 Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray well, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.
“WHERE I AM, THERE ALSO WILL MY SERVANT BE.” JN 12:24-26
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
Today, on this feast of St. Lawrence, Jesus teaches us the reward for giving up our lives/ego to follow Him, eternal life in heaven. This means heaven is attainable and we can even be holy right here right now. How? We are called to die to self. What does that mean? In simple terms, be unselfish or imitate Christ and how He lived His life. Enter each room each day and ask how you can help. Put others before self.
Love even when you are not loved back and give to those who cannot return the favor. Help those who have made really bad decisions in their lives and give them hope. Be generous. Forgive as God forgives you (every time no matter how big the sin is or how many times you sin). Love. Most importantly, establish a personal relationship with the Ultimate Servant, Jesus Christ. He died so that we could become best friends with Him. He will always lead you to being a better servant.
Jesus says we must serve Him and “the Father will honor whoever serves me.” We know in the works of mercy Jesus says we will find Him in the sick, dying, poor, prisoner, homeless, those on the fringes of society. These are the people He spent substantial time with while on earth. He was trying to teach us something. It starts with those who are in the same room as us, under the same roof, in our schools and workplaces. We also serve Him by following the commandments, loving God and loving our neighbor and self. Then, at the Last Supper Jesus says “you are no longer my servants but my friends, love one another”. This is the pathway to heaven.
Today’s challenge: How can we serve in day to day living? Offer a hand with the dishwasher, cooking, cleaning, laundry, especially if it is not a chore you are required to do. Get off your phone and video games and talk to your parents and brothers and sisters. Do something together as a family. Cook together, eat together, clean it up together.
Go with your parents to do stewardship or get involved in CYM/Junior CYM. Help out your neighbors especially if they are elderly, mowing, shoveling driveways, picking up limbs, walking their dog, getting their mail. Write a letter to someone saying how much they mean to you. Invite someone to go to Church with you. Look up a charity that interests you and see if you can do anything to help.
