Prayer Prompt before reading MT 14:22-33 Come, Holy Spirit, teach me how to pray well, interpret the Scriptures for me so that I may know the Truth about who God the Father is and God the Son so that I may know who I am.
“TAKE COURAGE, IT IS I; DO NOT BE AFRAID.” MT 14:22-33
Humbly submit your will to God (Thy Will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.
First, Jesus teaches us the need for prayer, “He went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone”. Second, Jesus again reveals His identity by having power over nature. Those in the boat respond, “Truly, you are the Son of God”. Last, He teaches us to trust Him and not live in fear but believe, ““Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”
There is no reason to fear if you have an unfailing love and belief in God because Jesus conquered the world and overcame fear and death. Easier said than done. Sometimes my faith is strong and sometimes it is weak, but I have learned not to allow my faith or joy to be taken away because I am having a bad day, someone has hurt me, or because I have sinned. Jesus never leaves us and He desires nothing more than for us to be with Him. His desire is even greater than ours. It is what He was made for; to reconcile us with the Father.
“Love requires reciprocity (the practice of exchanging things with others for mutual benefit).” –Jesus to St. Faustina on Divine Mercy
The only way we can love God back for what He has done for us through His Son, is worship and adore Him in the ways He set forth through Jesus, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We can remain in His love by remaining in the Commandments. When we fall, we can be restored and redeemed over and over in confession.
The greatest tragedy for a Savior would be unrepentant sinners. If we do not repent it hurts His most Sacred Heart more than anything else. We take away the power of the cross when we are unrepentant and remain in our shame, fear, and selfishness. We were made for a relationship with God, do not be afraid, come to Him and experience the peace and joy He wants to give you. Welcome Him into the storms of your life. Invite Him into your struggles with sin. This is what He was made for!
Today’s challenge: Be not afraid, get out of your comfort zone and take a step closer to Christ who desires nothing more than for you to repent and love Him back through worship and adoration. How? Spend time with Jesus everyday in the Eucharist, prayer, the Word, in the people around you.
Be a servant, become a saint!
