Humbly submit your will to God (thy will be done) and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary and Joseph.

War broke out in heaven;
Michael and his angels battled against the dragon.
The dragon and its angels fought back,
but they did not prevail
and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.
The huge dragon, the ancient serpent,
who is called the Devil and Satan,
who deceived the whole world,
was thrown down to earth,
and its angels were thrown down with it.  Rev. 12:7-12

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him,
“Here is a true child of Israel.
There is no duplicity in him.”
Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.”
Nathanael answered him,
“Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Do you believe
because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree?
You will see greater things than this.”
And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you,
you will see heaven opened
and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
 Jn 1:47-51

334      In the meantime, the whole life of the Church benefits from the mysterious and powerful help of angels.201 (1939)
335      In her liturgy, the Church joins with the angels to adore the thrice-holy God. She invokes their assistance (in the funeral liturgy’s In Paradisum deducant te angeli… “May the angels lead you into Paradise…”]). Moreover, in the “Cherubic Hymn” of the Byzantine Liturgy, she celebrates the memory of certain angels more particularly (St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael, and the guardian angels). (1138)
336      From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession.202 “Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.”203 Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God. Catechism of the Catholic Church

The angel of God was one of my favorite childhood prayers.  It was one of the first that I taught my children.  The funny thing is I forgot how much I need my guardian angel as an adult.  St. Padre Pio told people to send him their guardian angel since they would not be able to see him again.  Our guardian angels are unique in that they were fashioned by God just for us.  They help us fight the fallen angels and Satan daily.  As the catechism says, “Besides each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.” 203  We join the angels in glorifying God at Mass during the Holy, Holy, Holy.  Pay attention to the words leading up to this prayer at Mass and imagine heaven and earth clashing as we join the angels and saints to praise God.  Angels are always surrounding Jesus.

Today, there are angels with Jesus accompanying Him in every tabernacle throughout the world.  Jesus tells Bartholomew in the Gospel that He will “see the heavens opened and angels ascending and descending on the Son of Man”.  Angels exist and you have one made just for you by the love of God.  Speak to your guardian angel and ask him to protect you with the intercession of St. Michael to resist the temptations of the devil each day.  In our spiritual journey, we will have to learn to play defense just as much as offense.  Defend our mind, heart, and souls from the devil and offense is bringing ourselves to the avenues of God’s grace and doing works of charity.

Today’s challenge: Start praying to your guardian angel everyday again and speak to your angel throughout the day when tempted or anytime.  Your angel will protect you and you will see yourself sinning less and growing on your journey to heaven.

Be a servant, become a saint!
