Mt ll:25-30  Jesus is the perfect model of humility.  Today he teaches us that the first step to a good relationship is humility; putting others before ourselves.  St. Ignatius of Loyola teaches us to pray by beginning, “Jesus, I come before you humbly as a sinner who needs your mercy”.  Second, Jesus tells us to give Him all of our troubles and he will bring us peace.  “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”  Yoke is a heavy leather collar that goes over an oxen’s head and sits on it’s shoulders to pull a plow.  Farmers used this to plow their fields before machinery came along.  In poorer countries today, farmers still use them.  Jesus knew His followers or those in the crowd would understand what He was talking about.

For us this means:  Come before me humbly and let me know what is bothering you.  I will bring you peace.  You parents might be separated or divorced, you may feel like your parents or friends hate you, you may be lonely or feel forgotten because you were not invited to a big event, you may be overweight, struggling with a bad habit, self-worth is low, have too much homework and not enough time to do it, and the list goes on!  Read Jesus’s words and sit in silence for two minutes.  Trust in Him!
